FACE will have its own sale booth. If you have items to donate, please bring them to the FEC on Friday, April 29, between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All donations are tax-deductible. Rhodies, rhodies everywhere — and all for us to see! This year’s annual Early Rhody Flower Show, hosted by the Siuslaw Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society, should be very interesting for local rhododendron enthusiasts. Wind, rain, drought, heat, cold, sleet, snow; only the hardiest, most tenacious flowers will shine bright in April. The show will take place at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St., Saturday, April 23, from 1 to 5 p.m., and Sunday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Early Flower Show is open to anyone who would like to share their beautiful trusses with the world and possibly go home with a ribbon or trophy.

If people would like to enter, bring flowers to the FEC between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Saturday morning. The society’s knowledgeable garden nymphs will help with the proper category placement. A few guidelines to follow are: select a truss that is as completely open as possible; try to find the straightest stem; bug bites are not our favorite design, but sometimes we can’t avoid them; and remember, everyone has had the same weather as you. Don’t worry about them being perfect. The more, the merrier. Please join in the show and see why Florence is called the “City of Rhododendrons.” Admission is always free. If you have any questions, call Day Farrald at 541-590-3161.
