SEAcoast presents Neave Trio —
performing works by women composers O n We d n e s d a y, March 4, at 7 p.m., the Boston-based Neave Trio is presented by SEAcoast Entertainment Association for a performance at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. There will be a talk with the performers prior to the show at 6:15. The Neave Trio will perform works by four distinguished women composers spanning the Romantic era through the modern day, including Rebecca Clarke’s “Piano Trio;” Amy Beach’s “Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 150;” Cécile Chaminade’s “Piano Trio No. 1, Op. 11;” and Jennifer Higdon’s “Piano Trio.” The trios by Beach and Clarke are on Neave’s latest recording, “Her Voice” (released Oct. 4, 2019, on Chandos Records), along with Louise Farrenc’s “Piano Trio No. 1.” Since forming in 2010, Neave Trio (Anna Williams on violin; Mikhail Veselov on cello and Eri Nakamura on piano) has earned enormous praise for its engaging, cutting-edge performances. The New York Times said, “What excellent performances this trio

gives here of works that deserve them,” and included the third movement of Clarke’s trio in the “Best 25 Classical Music Tracks of 2019.” According to Williams says, “There is so much great repertoire that is under-performed, especially from women composers, and we feel it is essential to program and record these masterworks alongside the more well-known catalogue of piano trio repertoire. These women really broke down barriers and paved the way for future generations and we are excited to honor their unique contributions and voices.” The Neave Trio —WQXR explains, “‘Neave’ is actually a Gaelic name meaning ‘bright’ and ‘radiant’, both of which certainly apply to this trio’s music making” — has been included in several “best of ” roundups across the country. Neave has performed at many esteemed concert series and at festivals worldwide. Highlights of Neave’s 2019-20
season include concerts at Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, Brown University, Feldman Chamber Music Society, Chamber Music Society of Williamsburg and the Boise Chamber Music Series, among many others. For more information, visit www. neavetrio.com. SEAcoast, an all-volunteer 501(C) (3) non-profit, has been bringing first-class entertainment to Florence, Ore., for 40 years. Believing that variety is the spice of life, its programs run the gamut of classical, jazz, ethnic music, dance, comedy and variety. SEA’s dedicated team of volunteers have brought hundreds of acts to an appreciative Florence audience. The next show will be at the Florence Events Center on April 3, when SEAcoast presents Giada Valenti at 7 p.m. with a pre-show talk at 6:15.

CROW holds auditions for Dance Showcase
On March 14, CROW will hold open auditions for any dancer (ages 6+) interested in a solo/duet/small group performance piece in this year’s 2020 Spring Dance Showcase. These public performances are in celebration of all forms of dance, and will take place on May 8 and 9 at the Florence Events Center. To be considered, dancers MUST attend the audition on Saturday, March 14, at 2:30 p.m. at the CROW Center for the Performing Arts, 3120 Highway 101 in Florence. Dancers should wear dance shoes and dance attire, and bring a device such as an MP3 player, phone, or tablet with the music track on it. CROW will provide a speaker you can connect to.
“Your piece does not have to be 100% finished, but it must show a good amount of the choreography, plus the expression, style, and technique of the dancer,” said CROW’s Artistic Director Melanie Heard. “The more complete the piece is, the better.” Dancers should be prepared to discuss performance costumes if asked (which must be approved in advance by CROW). Choreography and music must not have profanity or inappropriate words/
movements, and must be appropriate for all audiences. This audition is open to ALL dancers involved in classes (either with CROW or at another location), private lessons, self-choreography, and any other people/ small groups that would like to give it a try. Space is limited in the showcase, and the audition will be judged by a panel of CROW judges including CROW dance teachers, board members and production team members. Auditioning does not guarantee you a spot in the program. Dancers will be notified shortly after the audition if they have been accepted. Contact Heard at 541-999-8641 or crowtheatrekids@yahoo.com.
