CROSS ROAD ASSEMBLY OF GOD
C
ross Road Assembly is a thriving and active church in Florence, founded in 1935 and affiliated with the Assemblies of God in 1945. It has been an active Christian influence in Florence and the Siuslaw Valley all 82 years of her history. Its mission is to be a point of connection between Christ and the world. To engage the community with a relevant message of hope, grace and love. To be a sending point of teaching, training and launching people into life experience ministry in the workplace, school and community. Cross Road has a variety of ministries that reach the youngest to the oldest in the community. It also has an excellent team of workers to teach a variety of ages the life changing message of Christ. The church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God, the largest
Protestant Pentecostal Movement in the world. Its members are actively involved in missions that reach and teach people both at home and around the world.
You can expect friendly and authentic people, engaging and relevant music and worship, compelling preaching from the Bible, and an opportunity to encounter God. You can expect to find a place where cre-
ativity and fellowship come together to worship God in new and exciting ways. You can expect to be encouraged, challenged, excited and, most importantly, welcomed. We strive to live out the Biblical command to love God, each other and our neighbors, following Jesus Christ not only through our words, but also through the lives we lead. Food Backpack for Kids is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located in Florence, Oregon. We are parents and grandparents from Florence and Mapleton who deeply care and refuse to see any child going through dumpsters for food. Food Backpack for Kids is a Kid-Friendly School-based Program. NEW LIFE LUTHERAN CHURCH For people looking for a church home that is friendly, spiritual, and dedicated to the principles and teachings of Christ, New Life Lutheran is an excellent choice. The congregation is served by Pastor Lori Blake formerly of Immanuel Church in Minnesota. While maintaining strong spiritual teaching and Christian support to the congregation, New Life Lutheran is dedicated to serving the community through outreach. The church was in the grass roots movement to establish “Food Share” to feed the hungry of Florence. Food Share is now located on church property and is thriving. “Habitat for Humanity “ is another local service that the church helped pioneer. Habitat has built 26 houses and is working on the 27th. This helps many young families to afford a home and even help build it! New Life Lutheran established the first Christian preschool
in Florence in the 70’s. It was called “Alice Brauer Christian School.” The church is now partnering with two very experienced and qualified people for a Kindergarten ready Preschool of the same name. These are the services that the church offers: Adult Forum class at 9:00 a.m. Sun., “ Come As You Are” service on Wed. at 6:00 with the first Wed. being “Movie Night”, Games & Grub on the 1st Sat., and Bible Study at 1:00 and 6:00 On Thurs. Summer Splash is offered once a month in the summertime for children. The Community is invited to attend these services and events as well as our regular service at 10:30 on Sun., and to share the Fellowship hour in the Fellowship hall immediately afterwards Grace and peace to all. You can access the Church newsletter. “The Vine” on line at www.lutheranchurchflorence.com.

You’re Cordially Invited To Visit The FLORENCE CHURCH OF CHRIST WHO ARE WE? The Florence church of Christ is not a place, but rather a people. United in Christ, with God as our Father, we are family, meeting in a common place with a common goal. Our goal is to be the church you read about in the New Testament in the first century. We are simply a group of believers in Christ who have obeyed the New Testament plan of salvation; who try to work and worship according to the pattern of the New Testament; who meet regularly for Bible study, worship, and fellowship, and who seek to share the good news of our Savior with others.

We are not part of any denomination. “The churches of Christ salute you!” Romans 16:16 Although there are many congregations of the churches of Christ throughout the world, each congregation is independent and self-governing, with Christ as our only Head. We have no earthly headquarters, as this is brought out in the New Testament, and congregations are bound to each other only by their mutual adherence to the Bible as the sole rule of faith and practice in religion. Since the church was established by and belongs to Christ (Matthew 16:18), one does not “join” it in the same way one joins a man-made denomination or social organization. Instead, the Lord adds those whom He has saved to His church (Acts 2:47). How, you may ask, is one saved? We have many examples in the book of Acts, in chapters 2, 8, 9, 10, 16, 18, and 22, showing us how actual, historical persons obtained pardon from their sins and became members of the Lord’s church. You will find that there are several steps in the salvation process. Not every step is specifically mentioned in every example, because not all of these people were at the same “milepost” along the road to salvation. However, when you put the accounts together, you will see that they all did the same things: They heard the gospel (Romans 10:14-17) They believed that Jesus is the Son of God, Christ, Lord and Savior (Acts 16:31) They repented of their sins (Acts 2:38, Acts 3:19) They confessed their faith in Jesus (Romans 10:9-10) They were baptized (immersed) in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit (Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, 1 Peter 3:21-22, Acts 22:16) Remain faithful (Revelation 2:10c) We seek to be Christians only, to speak where the Bible speaks and to be silent where the Bible is silent. Caring and Sharing Chartered in 1982, Florence United Methodist Church has been described as having an “outsize” impact in its community. With some of its 45 original congregants still church members, the people who have worshipped in the little building with the steeple on Second and Kingwood over more than four decades have left a mark on Florence. At any given time, virtually all its members are in leadership positions or are volunteers with scores of community organizations – from Habitat for Humanity to the Siuslaw Public Library. And this is not to mention its own sponsored ministry, Free Lunch, a fixture two days a week in its Social Hall for more than 20 years, and its Prayer Shawl Ministry, which has been hand-crafting knitted and crocheted items for those in need of comfort for a dozen years. Spiritual comfort and robust worship can be experienced at Florence United Methodist Church, which has two Sunday services, adult and children’s Sunday School, a choir, and active small-group ministries. Its participation in the Florence Ecumenical Lenten Renewal group since its inception 21 years ago has furthered its partnerships in joint worship and outreach ministries with other denominations. In 2011, Florence United Methodist members voted overwhelmingly to join the Reconciling Ministries Network, an international movement within the Methodist Church, to affirm, support and welcome to its LGBTQ brethren. It is truly the church of open minds, open hearts, open doors.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church
“Oh, how good and pleasant it is, when sisters and brothers live together in unity!” Psalms 133:1 St. Andrew’s may not be the first church building one will see when taking a casual drive through town. Tucked away as we are around the corner of Spruce and 19th Street, and not knowing our beautiful city, a GPS might come in handy. But! Once you get here you will be glad that you found us. I suppose a lot of pastors, priests, ministers say that about the parish they serve. Please allow me to tell you why I believe this is true about St. Andrew’s. I am the interim priest here. This means that the congregation is searching for a priest to be their pastor. While the search is being made I have been called by God and the congregation to provide pastoral care for the congregation and the people of our community. I quoted Psalm 133 above. Coming from the plains of South Dakota as I do we believe in telling things as they are; short, to the point, no beating around the bush. St. Andrew’s is a good place, a pleasant place, a place filled with the joy and wonder of being God’s people. What’s more we live together in unity (at least this is our goal). So, if you are tired of the chaos of our world come to St. Andrew’ and be at peace. If you are frightened, lonely, ostracized by your family, friends, or this community. Please accept my personal invitation to come and see us. Someone will be waiting at our red doors of welcome to greet you and make you feel at home. What about our ministry? We are not just Sunday morning pew sitters. Recognizing our imperfect natures we struggle to live our our faith in the real world. We work to make real the mandate that Jesus Christ is Lord of all, pushes no one away, and listens to all. We work to feed those who are hungry. We really work to make time for the poor and the homeless. We believe in the community of saints — we try to
not be stuck up when it comes to God’s people. We believe there is little room in our world for one Christian group to think they are better than another. At the heart of St. Andrew’s is the Gospel of our Lord Jesus, the Christ. Join us each Sunday for worship either at 8:00 a.m. or at the 10:00 a.m. worship service. We also have a worship service on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. The Sacrament of Holy Communion (the Eucharist) is celebrated at all services (well, almost all).
