FLORENCE GREEN FAIR | MAY 3, 2017 — 3
Welcome to the 2017 Florence Green Fair
I
t’s easy being green at the eighth annual Florence Green Fair on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Florence Events Center (FEC). ___________________
Discover new and interesting ways to go green with the help of this year’s vendors. This event is geared towards anyone wanting to learn more about environmentally friendly resources and products that could be used at home or in the work place. Green Fair presenters Siuslaw News and KCST Coast Radio worked with an active organizing committee that strives to improve the fair experience each year and hopes that this year’s fair will be the best ever. The fair is sponsored by County Transfer and Recycling. Bring the family and come celebrate community while immersing yourself in the pleasures of sustainability. Exhibits, seminars and interactive activities are scheduled throughout the day at the FEC, 715 Quince St. Admission to the Green Fair is $3, or free with a canned donation to Mapleton Food Share or by bringing plastic planting pots to be recycled. Oregon Coast Humane Society and Thrift Store is again sponsoring the Give and Take event, where people can donate small items and exchange them for items of equal value. The award-winning documentary “Just Eat It,” a 74-minute look at food waste and rescue, will be screened at the event at 1 p.m. Everyone will be entered into a drawing to win some “green” in Three Rivers Casino Resort’s $1,000 Cash Cube. Several speakers will present local products, environmentally friendly practices and healthy living ideas throughout the day. Whether it is about recycling, using less energy or protecting the soil, air and food we eat, the Florence Green Fair will offer ideas and solutions for adopting a greener lifestyle.

On May 4, don’t miss ‘Tomorrow’
J
oin City Lights Cinemas as it partners with the eighth annual Florence Green Fair to present the urgent and uplifting social and environmental documentary “Tomorrow.” Screenings will be Thursday, May 4, at noon and 6 p.m. For the past 8 years now, the Siuslaw News and KCST Radio have been bringing the latest, cutting edge techniques to the Florence community to demonstrate ways to make a realistic and sustainable difference in the world. Along with the Green Fair at the Florence Events Center, the new documentary “Tomorrow” will be screened at City Lights Cinemas. “Tomorrow” is a film that offers optimistic solution, hope and a way forward in this vital and precarious moment in the planet’s history. The film shows how answers lie in a wide mobilization of the human race. Over the course of a century, dreams of progress have fundamentally changed the way we live and continues to inspire many developing countries. Today, we
have become aware of the drawbacks and limits of such development policy. Environmentalists, scientists and ecologists urge the need to focus efforts to change the way people go about realizing “The American Dream” before something irreversible happens to the planet. The documentary “Tomorrow” sets out to showcase alternative and creative ways of viewing agriculture, economics, energy and education. It offers construction solutions to act on a local level to make a difference on a global level. So far, no other documentary has gone down such an optimistic road. “Tomorrow” marks the beginning of a movement seeking to encourage local communities around the world to change the way they live for the sake of the planet. Tickets for “Tomorrow” are currently available at City Lights Cinemas, 1930 Highway 101, or online at citylightscinemas.com. Tickets are $9 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, and $7 for students.
