HONORING ALL WHO SERVED Salute to All Veterans & Veterans Day Parade Program
H
onor the service and sacrifice of all active-duty and military veterans at the 11th annual Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. in Historic Old Town Florence. The parade assembles near the Florence Events Center on Quince Street and continues to Bay Street before ending at the Veteran’s Memorial Park. This year’s parade Grand Marshals are Korean War Veterans, who are no longer forgotten. The Korean War is often referred to as “The Forgotten War.” The parade will take place rain or shine. Military vehicles, music from local bands, floats, marching groups,
elected officials and many others will pay tribute to all veterans during the parade. Show your red, white and blue spirit by waving flags along the parade route. Families welcome. Each year Nov. 11 is observed in America to acknowledge the sacrifices made by those currently serving and those who have served to keep this country free. This Veteran’s Day, the nation will again be reminded of the tremendous sacrifices endured to ensure America’s freedom. Everyone is invited to attend the Veterans Day Parade in Florence and salute those who protect this country.

M
ike Bones, left, second sailor from the left, shared this photo of an old Portuguese fort in Muscat, the Capital of Oman. “My first duty station was out of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia. I was a radioman aboard the USS Valcour, which was the command ship for the Commander of the Middle East in the Indian Ocean. It was a great life experience being over there in the Middle East during the 1970s. The USS Valcour (AGF1) had a flat bottom and we could get into many ports in the Indian Ocean. It was a goodwill ship, painted white, and nicknamed, ‘The Great White Ghost of the Arabian Coast.’”
