India is facing a power shortage of nearly 50,000MW and 50% of this problem could be solved by adopting Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Practises – especially in the in the Industrial Sector. Answer to India’s Power Problem lies in Optimising Energy Use + Harvesting Solar Energy .
India is blessed with enough Sun light to power the entire nation. India receives solar energy equivalent to 5,000 trillion kWh per year, far more than its total energy consumption. Daily average solar energy incident varies from 4 – 7 kWh per sq.m depending on the location and time of the year.
Irradiation data suggest that 0.5% of India’s land area under solar PV could meet all electricity needs of the country in 2030. Rajasthan, North Gujarat , Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra & Madhya Pradesh receives highest annual radiation of 5kWH - 6 kWh/sq.m
Photo Voltaic Solar offer numerous benefits not only over Fossil Fuel Projects but also over other Renewable Technologies (Wind / Biomass / Hydro etc)
Is a Zero maintenance system – which no other technology can offer . Does not need active manpower to operate. Does not need any fuel to operate except Sun light which is infinite.
Is truly Green in Nature as the Energy Payback Time is around 2-3 years. Generally the role is within 3-4 years and project life is 25-30 years . Hence free, once the initial cost recovered. Does not emit radiation or cause any pollution – can be installed closer to human habitat. Low gestation period – highly modular & scalable. Suitable to implement all parts of the India .
Solar Module Quality Assurance involves testing and evaluating solar cells to ensure the quality requirements of them are met. Solar modules or panels are expected to Have a longer service life between 20 and 40 years. They must constantly and consistently deliver the power expected. In addition, modules are exposed to wide array of weather conditions along with usage in differ climates. Therefore it is critical to determine if a module is capable of performing over many decades with exposure to differing conditions. Solar module can be tested through a combination of physical tests, laboratory studies, and numerical analysis. Furthermore, solar modules need to be assessed through the stages of their life cycle.
STAGES OF TESING :
Conceptual Phase
Manufacturing Phase
Transportation & Installation Phase Commissioning Phase
Conceptual Phase : It involves design verification where the expected output of the module Is tested through computer simulation. Further, the modules ability to withstand natural Environment conditions such as temperature, rain, hail, snow, corrosion, dust, lightening Horizon and near shadow effects is tested. The layout for design and construction of the Module and the quality of components can also be tested at this stage. Manufacturing Phase : Inspecting manufactures components is carried through visitation. The inspection can include assembly checks, material testing supervision & Non Destructive Testing (NDT). Certification is carried according to ANSI/UL1703, IEC 17025, IEC 61215, IEC 61646, IEC 61701 and IEC 61730-1/-2. Transportation & Installation Phase : Inspections include pre-dispatch inspection, Dimensional control, visual control, and damage control. Documents & certificates Should also be reviewed.
Commissioning Phase & In-service Phase : Solar module specialists will ensure that the Production has followed correct procedure and ensure there is a save start up. The in-service Phase involves regular inspections of the solar modules to confirm they are performing.
We can conclude that, many of the concepts and practices that have been presented in this slide suitably adapted for general context and site conditions, are applicable to diverse and different contexts, including similar large scale developments in solar power in India.
