ABOUT THE COLOR OF FORM AND THE FORM OF COLOR IN ARCHITECTURE GRADUATION PROJECT EXPLORE LAB TU DELFT Project description The Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky published in 1912 his theory about the characteristics and tensions of color and form on the plane. This theory combined with an extensive analysis of Kandinsky’s painting Yellow-redblue [1925] form together with own additional model studies the foundation for a concept model exploring the applicability of color and form in and architectural case study. This case study shows the influence of color and form in a spacial compilation.
Model

005
Yellow-red-blue, Kandinsky [1925]
Part of the project is an analysis of this painting following the following described themes; ‘Color, contrast and connection’, ‘Form and composition’ and ‘Synergy of color and form’.
006
ANALYSIS Color, contrast and connection
By decomposing the different layers of color in the painting the underlaying color concept becomes visible. The primary colors form the base and create tension in the painting by contrast and connection. The background of the opposite colors yellow and blue is connected by the main elements in the painting.
Form and composition
The form language also divides the painting into two parts. The left side shows strict geometric mostly orthogonal shapes while on the right side organic, thick accentuated lines can be found which form a dynamic picture. The following schemes show the weight of the orthogonal and diagonal tensions on a plane.
Synergy of color and form
In his so-called ‘correspondence theory’ Kandinsky made a link between the primary colors and the basic geometrical shapes. In the main elements of the painting, this synergy of color and form is visible through warm, angled and cold curved objects.
007
OWN MODEL STUDIES Overall color concept
These models show how through the use of color horizontal and vertical tensions appear in space, determined by the position of color relative to each other.
Juxtaposition of form
With the introduction of an object into a space two types of tensions are emerging: the sharpness of an object with a certain direction and the center of gravity of the space.
Synergy and a-synergy of color and form
Starting with the spatial geometric basics it is possible to dissect basic shapes that are applicable in architecture. Colour can amplify or weaken these shapes, which results in a synergy or a-synergy.
008
Concept model case study This model forms the basis for the case study in which the three themes (see page 7 and 8) spatially meet.

REED PAVILJOEN FORMSTUDY
TU DELFT
Project description Design of a pavilion focused on material, composition, and detail. A walk on trampled paths through a natural reed barrier brings the visitor to a surrealist building. In this project, the extremes of materials are emphasized and laid side by side. The concrete wall seems to float above the water while the steady glass is the bearing factor of the path. Upon entering the glass staircase, the visitor is taken in a play of transparent and solid surfaces, of liquid and solid and of artificial and natural.

XYLOS B.V.
DISPLAY CABINET, The Hague BAR CABINET, Amsterdam CENTRO PECCI BOOKSHOP, Prato (Italy) Project description Xylos B.V. is a small interior design and building office specialized in the realization of custom made objects for the private and public sector. In my current function as project manager and developer, I am in charge of the further development after the design until the realization. Display Cabinet: For a private house, we had the task to build a Display Cabinet on top of a staircase to show glass art while at the same time separates the two floors. Bar Cabinet: This cabinet made out of wenge and glass functions as a Bar Cabinet in the evening room and is one of many objects we designed and build in an Amsterdam private house. Centro Pecci Bookshop: In the new museum for contemporary art in Prato, Italy, we constructed this bookshop after a design by NIO Architecten.

EXHIBITIONS
GEMEENTEMUSEUM, The Hague CANADIAN CENTRE for ARCHITECTURE, Montréal NAI, Rotterdam Project description In addition to my study of architecture at TU Delft, I participated in several exhibitions. My role in the production of these exhibitions consisted of analyzing the existing buildings by design and construction drawings and other documentation and subsequently making the models on the basis of this. Exhibitions: ‘Mondriaan & de Stijl’ (Gemeentemuseum, The Hague, 2008) under the direction of Robert Nottrot. Production of a model of the RietveldSchröder house. Originally built for ‘Hundred Years of Dutch Architecture’ in Beijing. ‘Casablanca Chandigarh.A report on Modernization‘ (Canadian Center for Architecture, Montreal, 2011) led by Tom Avermaete. Production of a model of the Modernist Careers Centers in Casablanca (Morocco). ‘Lelé - Architect of Health and Happiness’ (NAi, Rotterdam, 2012) led by Max Risselada. Production of multiple designs of the Brazilian architect João Filgueiras Lima (Lelé).

CAMPOSAZ WORKSHOP Project description  In addition to studying, joining competitions and realizing projects have been a way of acquiring knowledge of designing in practice, of constructing and of looking and seeing.  In 2015 I attended the Camposaz wood workshop in Siror, Italy. One year later I was one of the organisation of the workshop in Rotterdam. The Camposaz workshop is focusing on the design and realization of a timber construction in a short period of time. The participants are twelve young architects. The short time span causes active collaboration in both design and construction simultaneously.
