CITY OF SAN JOSE POLICIES REGISTRATION POLICIES Our method of registration is designed to offer equal access to all.
San José residents and Active Adult members are eligible for early registration. Customers can register for any class at any PRNS facility. Registration will be accepted in person, mail, fax, or online. Phone registrations will not be accepted. Registration forms will be processed in the order they are received. Registration will be accepted until the second class meeting if the course is still available. If the course requested is full, the participant will be registered for their second choice or placed on a wait list. Please be prompt when dropping off or picking up your child from his/her class. Children may not enter the class until the scheduled class or activity time. Children who arrive late to a class or activity should enter quietly and join in the activity. If a class is cancelled by the City, a make-up class will be added to the end of the session. In the event that a class cannot be rescheduled for a make-up by the City, a refund will be issued for the missed class. If the participant misses a class, no refunds will be issued. All wait list participants will be contacted only if there is an available spot in the class.
REFUND/TRANSFER POLICY All refund and transfer requests need to be made in writing. Request may be submitted in person to any PRNS facility or by email to SJRegistration@sanjoseca.gov.
All refund and transfer requests must be received at least 14 calendar
days prior to the start of the program/class. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received less than 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program/class. There will be a $10 refund processing fee for EACH activity and EACH child. If a class was paid with cash or check, a refund check will be mailed and may take 6-8 weeks for processing. If a class was paid with a credit card, the refund will be credited back to the credit card.
PREREQUISITES FOR CLASS Please note all requirements, dates, and times for classes offered before enrolling. All participants must meet the age requirement on the first day of the class or activity.
SATISFACTION GUARANTEED We want to provide quality programs to all participants. If you are not satisfied with your program, please let us know. Contact staff at your local facility or email us at SJRegistration@sanjoseca.gov
PRE-SCHOOL POLICIES Please refer to the SJ Recreation Preschool Section
PAYMENT PLANS POLICY Automatic payments are processed on the twentieth (20th) day of each month. A full payment is required to hold your child’s spot for the following month. Additionally, if payment is not received by the 1st of the month, students will be withdrawn from the class. If your credit/debit card account changes, please notify the community center front desk staff. If you do not plan to have your child continue, we request that you notify the community center staff at least two (2) weeks prior to your child’s last day. This will allow us to stop your automatic payment on time.
LATE PICK UP POLICY The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services wants to ensure the safety and well-being of every participant. Participants must be picked up at the scheduled class end time. If, after five minutes, a participant is not picked up, we may charge $1.00 per participant for every minute thereafter. All fees must be paid prior to the participant returning to the class. We understand that emergencies may happen. If you have any emergency and are unable to pick up your child on time, contact the community center.

Please register early to avoid class cancellations. We will make every effort to notify you at least five days prior to the scheduled course starting date. Please do not purchase supplies until five days prior to the start of the class. If a class is canceled, you will receive a full refund from the City, excluding class supplies.

Little Learners Program 3-4.5 year olds Children will be introduced to socialization, positive self-esteem, following directions, and simple learning concepts. Children will work on hand eye coordination and motor skills, while gaining independence through the use of circle time, music, songs, stories, play, arts and crafts. Food will be provided for cooking activities and may be provided for special events. Children must be fully potty trained before the start of class. Requirements for parent participation will vary by center. Children under the age of 4 years 9 months cannot be enrolled for over 12 hours of San Jose Recreation Preschool per week.

Kinder Prep Program 4-5.5 year olds This class prepares your child for kindergarten with age-appropriate activities, learning concepts, socialization skills, and fun. Your child will gain a basic understanding of shapes, colors, pre-phonics, literacy building (i.e. identifying letter sounds, writing the alphabet and simple words), number recognition, and counting up to 30. The goal is to have fun, participate, and learn. Children must be fully potty trained before the start of class. Requirements for parent participation will vary by center. Encourage your preschoolers enthusiasm for art. This fall, Young Rembrandts introduces drawing lessons that will excite your budding artist. A vibrant drawing of a rainbow will introduce our students to the wonderful world of color. An illustration of an airplane will take them to new heights. GUITAR LESSONS FOR YOUTH: LEVEL 1 This fun and educational class is for the absolute beginner guitarist. Students will be introduced to the basics of guitar playing and music fundamentals by learning fun, contemporary songs. ACTIVE ADULT 50+ EXCERCISE MEDICAL QI GONG Medical Qigong has been practiced for thousands of years. The exercises can be in the form of stretching, meditation, and channeling. This can bring emotional release to our body. The wide range of therapeutic exercises are used to stretch the connective tissue surrounding the muscles, thus enhancing physical strength of muscles and bones as well as flexibility. ARTHRITIS EXERCISE PROGRAM
This program is based on the Arthritis Foundation’s suggested exercises for individuals with arthritis and joint pain. This lowimpact class addresses the pain, fatigue, and decreased strength that often accompany arthritis. Exercises may be done seated or standing and also includes optional floor exercises. Health outcomes may include decreased joint pain and stiffness, increased range of motion, flexibility, endurance, and energy levels as well as improve joint functionality, muscle tone, and ability to perform daily activities and overall health status.
