Mini Gym Stars

A great beginner gymnastic class teaching basic gymnastic skills, including movement exploration, balance, and coordination, and at the same time teaching agility and improving motor skills. First Shots Basketball

Discover the fundamentals of basketball in a fun, recreational environment. Preschool class includes age-appropriate activities and emphasize basketball skills such as shooting, dribbling, and passing. San Jose Recreation Preschool LITTLE LEARNERS (AGES 3-4)

Children will be introduced to socialization, positive self-esteem, following directions and simple learning concepts. KINDERPREP (AGES 4-5)

This class prepares your child for kindergarten with age-appropriate activities, learning concepts, socialization skills and fun. Your child will gain a basic understanding of shapes, colors and pre-phonics and literacy building (i.e. identifying letter sounds, and writing the alphabet and simple words), as well as number recognition, and counting up to 30. MISSION STATEMENT “The San Jose Recreation Preschool program is committed to giving your child the best possible tools in order to thrive in their upcoming kindergarten adventure. This will be accomplished by providing qualified, trained, and experienced instructors teaching in a safe and welcoming atmosphere. Your child will have the opportunity to develop their learning and social skills while nurturing their imagination and creativity through play”

Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San Jose Recreation Preschool class:        

Requirements for parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc varies by center. Teacher to child ration is 1:10 or better. Participants must be toilet trained by the first day of program. Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day. A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations. The City of San Jose, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provides recreational programs ONLY and not licensed childcare. After reaching the class capacity, your child can be put on a waitlist. If a spot becomes available at any SJ Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list. A monthly payment plan is available, with auto-pay on the 20th of each month. A valid credit card must be on file for auto-pay option. (KinderPrep & Little Learners only)

Sports Leagues Scholarships Available! The City of San José offers activity scholarships for children, seniors and adults with disabilities who qualify. This scholarship is subject to available funding and offers $400 per eligible person per year. The scholarship will pay for 75% of the class cost. (Please allow 1-2 weeks for approval). Fill out the scholarship form and bring the necessary documents to any community center. A form can be found online or in the community center. Eastside Elite Future Stars Our non-competitive league is designed to focus on learning the basic instructions and rules while having fun! No scores or standings will be kept. Eastside Elite Basketball League Competitive Our Competitive league will keep score on a scoreboard and have certified referees with emphasis placed on good sportsmanship and skills development. To ensure evenly skilled and balanced teams, all players will be evaluated and drafted on teams by PRNS Staff and Coaches. Only the Coach’s Child is guaranteed placement on a specific team. The games are two (2) twenty minutes running halves, with each team member playing 15+ minutes per game. There is a possible that we could have games on Friday Nights, Saturdays and/or Early Evenings. Could have up to two(2) practices during the week on week night between the hours of 6pm to 9pm. Cost includes: Certified Referees, Jersey, Clinic/Draft Day, 6 League Game, Play Off Games, Awards, and End of Season Pizza Party. A big part of the sport league's success is having volunteers like you as a part of the team. The City of San Jose has a program through which potential volunteers with supervisory or disciplinary control over minors at recreation centers are fingerprinted. The fingerprints are then sent to the California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for criminal background check. Therapeutic Recreation (classes for people with disabilities) Teen Social Time Come down to Mayfair's game room to have a good time! We have a pool table, foosball table, ping pong, xbox and playstation. We will give you time with the video games as well as do some group structured activities. Work on your social skills while having fun! Your input will help us develop games and activities that will be fun for you. This class is structured for teen with disabilities with a higher staff ratio of 5 to 1. Coloring Fun!

Coloring books for adults have become the latest trend, and unlike other fads, this one is actually really good for you. Coloring has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety. Coloring also lets you be creative and social with others! Come to this low pressure, fun class. This group is designed for adults with disabilities that require minimal supervision, if you require more supervision or help with personal care, please bring an attendant with you. Head Injury Recreation and Leisure Network is a social club for survivors of head injuries and strokes. Join us at Luigi's Pizza in Campbell for pizza and a soda. Then we will walk over to the Campbell Plaza Theaters to see a movie that is playing around 7pm. Participants must be able to function in a 1 to 8 ratio and be independent with personal care needs or bring an attendant with them. Brown Bag Program

Seniors who have registered with Second Harvest and have been assigned to the Mayfair site are able to pick-up a grocery bag on 1st and 3rd Friday morning each month. To qualify for Brown Bag, you must be a low-income senior 65 years and older. An application must be submitted with proof of I.D. and income.

Membership is $10 and valid for one calendar year (January - December). Members receive discounts at special events and/or dances. Have you renewed your 2017 Membership?

Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and pastry with friends. Games are available to play cards, dominos, Loteria, and more. These are all held in the Chavez Hall Monday - Friday between 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Stay for lunch at 12:00 noon. *Note: Coffee is not part of the lunch program. Coffee is FREE for Members and $.50 a cup for non-members.

Mayfair Café Lunch is served Monday – Friday at 12:00pm in Chavez Hall  Reservations are required one day in advance in person or you can call (408) 794-1077.  Lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for adults age 60+ and a $8 guest fee for adults under age 60.  No senior age 60 or over shall be denied a meal based on their inability to make a contribution.  Nutrition Meal Cards are available for $30 for 11 lunches. The cards have no expiration date and can be used at any Santa Clara County Nutrition site.  Advance registrations are required for special event luncheons as they fill up quickly. Page 15
