Eastside Elite Future Stars

Our non-competitive league is designed to focus on learning the basic instructions and rules while having fun! No scores or standings will be kept. Eastside Elite Basketball League Competitive

Our Competitive league will keep score on a scoreboard and have certified referees with emphasis placed on good sportsmanship and skills development. To ensure evenly skilled and balanced teams, all players will be evaluated and drafted on teams by PRNS Staff and Coaches. Only the Coach’s Child is guaranteed placement on a specific team. The games are two (2) twenty minutes running halves, with each team member playing 15+ minutes per game. Games on Friday Nights, Saturdays and/or Early Evenings are possible. Coaches may coordinate up to two(2) practices during the week on week nights between the hours of 6pm to 9pm depending on availability. Cost includes: Certified Referees, Jersey, Clinic/Draft Day, 6 League Game, Play Off Games, Awards, and End of Season Pizza Party. Game times will vary and schedules will be passed out the first week of the first game. Course #

COACHES NEEDED Volunteer Coaches are essential for a successful league. If you’re interested in being a volunteer coach, please indicate so on the registration form. A big part of the sport league's success is having volunteers like you as a part of the team. The City of San Jose has a policy that requires potential volunteers with supervisory or disciplinary control over minors at recreation centers to be fingerprinted. The fingerprints are then sent to the California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for criminal background checks. Therapeutic Recreation HIRLN Bowling

Head Injury Recreation and Leisure Network is a social club for survivors of head injuries and strokes. Join us at Bowlero bowling alley near Oakridge mall for a night of fun! Check out the Mayfair Community Center and relax with some arts and crafts. This program is geared towards groups of people with disabilities and designed to improve fine motor skills, creativity and social skills. Come join us on the last Tuesday of the month for some fun! Each month will have a different theme or activity. Night at the Quakes

Please join us for a soccer game at the Avaya Stadium. We are purchasing a group of tickets and will enjoy EARTHQUAKES SOCCER! Participants must be able to sit with the group. We will purchase a limited number of wheelchair accessible seats so please let us know as soon as possible if you need one. A drop off location will be identified as the event gets closer. We will most likely use the uber drop off zone across the street. Disabled Parking is $15, regular parking is $20-$25 so carpooling or getting dropped off is recommended. Please call Liz at 408-794-1065 if you have any questions or did not receive a flyer. Participants must be able to follow simple directions and stay with the group. Summer Camps Camp Superstuff - Asthma

Every summer, Breathe California offers Camp Superstuff, a week-long day camp held within the region served by Breathe California of the Bay Area. This year, the City of San Jose, Mayfair Community Center, is partnering with Breathe California to offer Camp Superstuff. This camp is designed for children 6-12 suffering from asthma, Camp Superstuff blends asthma education curriculum with traditional summer camp activities. Registration is taken by Breathe California. Healthy Challenge Type 2 Diabetes Camp

Is your child diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes or pre-pre-diabetes? Are they close to being diagnosed? Has your pediatrician encouraged your child to eat healthier, exercise more, or lose weight? If you said YES to any of these questions, then this camp is for you! Come have fun and learn about healthy lifestyle choices. This is a camp with art, sports, activities, healthy snacks, and diabetes education. A diabetes educator and dietician will be at the camp to answer questions and teach healthy living skills. Camp staff will get the kids moving and having fun! Ages 8-15. This camp is a joint collaboration between the City of San Jose and the American Diabetes Association. Children must qualify for this camp. Your child must present at least 2 risk factors for type 2 diabetes or be diagnosed with pre-diabetes or Type 2 Diabetes. The ADA requires all children in the camp to show proof of immunization before the start of camp. ADA will collect proof upon the start of the camp. Course #

Diabetes Camp– type 1

This collaborative day camp program is provided by the City of San Jose's Therapeutic Services and California Diabetes Association. There will be fun activities, outings, games, crafts, and diabetes education. Nursing staff will be on site to help monitor blood sugars and provide education to participants and families. Building Community Through

Kinder Prep Summer Camp A.M. & P.M. This camp prepares your child for kindergarten with age-appropriate activities, learning concepts, socialization skills and fun. Your child will learn alphabet sounds, shapes, and colors. Children will participate in songs, dance, sharing, daily worksheets, structured & free play, and outside play time. Swim Lesson Class Descriptions Class

Pre-requisite

Description

Adult Child Participation

One participating adult per child required.

The parent/child swim class is designed to introduce both the parent and child to swimming and water skills through songs, games, and other activities.

Tot Class

Age 3-5 yr Children must be ready to participate in a group setting on their own.

This class is for younger swimmers who are ready to begin participating in a class without a parent. Students will learn water exploration, basic swimming skills with support, and water safety. Repetition of this class is encouraged until the swimmer is old enough for the Level 1 class.

Level 1 Water Exploration

Must be 5 years or older. No Exceptions. Children must be ready to participate on their own. Minimum height 42”

In level 1, children learn to enter and exit the water using ladder, steps or side, to blow bubbles through mouth and nose, to bob, to open under water and retrieve submerged objects. While learning front and back glides and floats, recovery to vertical position and to roll from front to back and back to front, children begin to develop comfort in the water. Other skills include alternative and simultaneous leg actions and arm actions on front and back, treading water using arm and hand actions and combined arm and leg actions on front and back.

Level 2 Primary Skills

Completion of level 1 Age 6-12 yrs Minimum height 42”

Success with fundamental aquatic skills begins in level 2 as children learn to enter and exit water by stopping or jumping from the side, fully submerge and hold breath, bob, open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects. Children learn front, jellyfish and tuck floats, front and back glides and floats, how to recover to vertical position, change direction of travel while swimming on front or back, and how to roll from front to back to front. Minimum height 42”.

Level 3 Stroke Readiness

Completion of Level 2 Age 6-12 yrs Minimum height 42”

Building on the skills introduced in level 2 through additional guided practice in deeper water, children learn to enter water by jumping from side, back float, survival float, rotary breathing, and headfirst entry into the water from the side in sitting and kneeling positions. Flutter, scissor, dolphin and breaststroke kicks on front will be introduced along with front crawl, elementary backstroke and treading water.

Level 4 Stroke Development

Completion of Level 3 Age 6-12 yrs MUST be comfortable in deep water. Minimum height 42”

In this level, children develop confidence in the skills learned and improve other aquatics skills including swimming under water, feet-first surface dives, survival swimming, and headfirst entry into the water from the side in compact and stride positions. Other skills include front crawl and backstroke open turns, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly, plus flutter and dolphin kicks on back. To advance, children also must be able to tread water using 2 different kicks.

Level 5 Stroke Refinement

Completion of Level 4 Age 6-17 yrs Minimum Height 42”

Students in Level 5 will work on further stroke coordination, refinement and endurance in front and back crawl, elementary back stroke, breast stroke, butterfly and sidestroke. Swimming for fitness skills will also be introduced.

Level 6 Stroke Proficiency

Completion of Level 5 Age 6-17 yrs Minimum height 42”

Refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Front and Back crawl, 100 yards Breaststroke, 50 yards Sidestroke and Butterfly, 50 yards Elementary backstroke, 50 yards All open turns and flip turns while using swimming strokes

Competitive Swim

Completion of Level 6 Age 6-17 yrs

Designed for children looking to prepare for a swimteam and gain swimming endurance. Students will receive structured workouts and instruction in competitive strokes and techniques. Class length is 60 minutes.

Junior Lifeguard

Completion of Level 5 Age 6-17 yrs

This class is designed to help swimmers build the foundation of knowledge and skills needed become future beach or pool lifeguards. Instruction in the topics of water safety, swimming endurance, first aid, Lifeguard responsibilities and basic Lifeguard techniques will be included in this class. Completion of the course will leave participants better prepared to register for American Red Cross Lifeguarding program at age 15 or older.

Adult Learn to Swim

Ages 13 yrs and older Beginner to Intermediate skill level.

This class is for adults who have a fear of the water, don’t feel at ease in the water or who have never participated in swimming lessons. Non-swimmers are taught basic swimming skills and water safety.

Brown Bag Program

Seniors who have registered with Second Harvest and have been assigned to the Mayfair site are able to pick-up a grocery bag on 1st and 3rd Friday morning each month. To qualify for Brown Bag, you must be a low-income senior 65 years and older. An application must be submitted with proof of I.D. and income.

Morning Social & Coffee

Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and pastry with friends. Games are available to play cards, dominos, Loteria, and more. These are all held in the Chavez Hall Monday - Friday between 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Stay for lunch at 12:00 noon. *Note: Coffee is not part of the lunch program. Coffee is FREE for Members and $.50 a cup for non-members.

Mayfair Café

Lunch is served Monday – Friday at 12:00pm in Chavez Hall  Reservations are required one day in advance in person or you can call (408) 794-1077.  Lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for adults age 60+ and a $8 guest fee for adults under age 60.  No senior age 60 or over shall be denied a meal based on their inability to make a contribution.  Nutrition Meal Cards are available for $30 for 11 lunches. The cards have no expiration date and can be used at any Santa Clara County Nutrition site.  Advance registrations are required for special event luncheons as they fill up quickly.
