CITY OF SAN JOSE POLICIES REGISTRATION POLICIES • Our method of registration is designed to offer equal access to all.

San José residents and Active Adult members are eligible for early registration.

Customers can register for any class at any PRNS facility. Registration will be accepted in person, mail, fax, or online. Phone registrations will not be accepted.

Registration forms will be processed in the order they are received.

Registration will be accepted until the second class meeting if the course is still available. If the course requested is full, the participant will be registered for their second choice or placed on a wait list.

Please be prompt when dropping off or picking up your child from his/her class. Children may not enter the class until the scheduled class or activity time. Children who arrive late to a class or activity should enter quietly and join in the activity.

If a class is cancelled by the City, a make-up class will be added to the end of the session. In the event that a class cannot be rescheduled for a make-up by the City, a refund will be issued for the missed class. If the participant misses a class, no refunds will be issued.

All wait list participants will be contacted only if there is an available spot in the class.

REFUND/TRANSFER POLICY • All refund and transfer requests need to be made in writing.

• Request may be submitted in person to any PRNS facility or by email to SJRegistration@sanjoseca.gov.

• All refund and transfer requests must be received at least 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program/class. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received less than 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program/class.

• There will be a $10 refund processing fee for EACH activity and EACH

PREREQUISITES FOR CLASS • Please note all requirements, dates, and times for classes offered before enrolling. All participants must meet the age requirement on the first day of the class or activity.

PRE-SCHOOL POLICIES • Please refer to the SJ Recreation Preschool Section

PAYMENT PLANS POLICY • Automatic payments are processed on the twentieth (20th) day of each month. A full payment is required to hold your child’s spot for the following month. Additionally, if payment is not received by the 1st of the month, students will be withdrawn from the class. If your credit/debit card account changes, please notify the community center front desk staff. If you do not plan to have your child continue, we request that you notify the community center staff at least two (2) weeks prior to your child’s last day. This will allow us to stop your automatic payment on time.

LATE PICK UP POLICY • The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services wants to ensure the safety and well-being of every participant. Participants must be picked up at the scheduled class end time. If, after five minutes, a participant is not picked up, we may charge $1.00 per participant for every minute thereafter. All fees must be paid prior to the participant returning to the class. We understand that emergencies may happen. If you have any emergency and are unable to pick up your child on time, contact the community center.

FROZEN AND FRIENDS DANCE CAMP

Fall into fun in this Frozen themed adventure! Children become ice princesses and silly snowmen enjoying dance, games, music and make believe in a magical dance camp! Delight in daily dance classes, journey to the ice castle through cool obstacle course activities and create a variety of art projects– royal crowns, reindeer, snowmen, and more!

ART START FOR PRESCHOOLERS CAMP

Children explore and experiment with painting, drawing, textures, collages, and other basic art techniques. As they stretch their imagination, little ones are also developing fine motor skills, color and shape recognition, listening and focusing. A variety of art materials will be used as they create their own original works of art! We'll also add group singing and dancing each day. Our group activities help children improve language and social skills, coordination, gross motor skills, and is a fun time for all!

Join us for five action packed days as Young Rembrandts hosts a wonderful Anime and Manga Drawing workshop. Our students will create dazzling illustrations that are influenced by popular Japanese anime and manga themes. Colorful characters with expressive personalities jump off the page. JUNIOR ZOO DRAWING WORKSHOP CAMP

Kids love to draw animals! Join us as we learn to draw a variety of animals found at our local zoo. We will draw giraffes, lions, tigers, birds and more. Our final day will result in one large scene of the zoo, divided into several habitats and incorporating the many animal friends we have learned to draw. SUMMER CAMPS– ACTIVE MULTI SPORTS SKYHAWKS MINI-HAWK

This multi-sport program was developed to give 4 to 7 year-olds a positive first step into athletics. Soccer, Baseball & Basketball are taught in a safe, structured environment filled with encouragement and fun.

Through games and activities, campers explore balance, hand/eye coordination, and skill development at their own pace. All participants receive a ball, t-shirt and a merit award. Participants should wear appropriate clothing, shin guards and running shoes; bring two snacks, a water bottle, a baseball glove and sunscreen.

Spend a week enjoying the world's most popular sport in a fun, recreational environment. Learn and practice soccer skills including: dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting and defense. Everyone is a winner as the week's fun culminates in an age-appropriate "World Cup" tournament.

It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's...everything from the earliest flying machines to the first rocket flights. This hands-on program will let you learn all about aerodynamics and the world above us. Explore the basic principles of flight, build airplanes, test them in wind tunnels, ride a hovercraft and construct balloon copters. Discover the mysteries of the galaxy, learn about celestial navigation, and take home a rocket that you have built yourself. We'll be moving at light speed through this high velocity week.

NASA: JOURNEY INTO OUTER SPACE- HALF DAY SPY ACADEMY

Look out 007 - the Mad Science Spy Academy is here! From message decoding to metal detectors and night vision, campers will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own edible message. Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Figure out the science of forensics in a hands-on look at crime scenes. Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks as we take a hands-on view of the science that spies use. The take-homes for this camp were designed by "Q" himself.

Lights, Camera, Reaction! Picture yourself as Sir Isaac Newton in this Mad Science camp as we discover how things move with science. Experiment with inertia and gravity as you learn what football players, ballet dancers, and scientists have in common. Explore how equipment and movement work together to help you enjoy your favorite sports. Learn about photography and the movie making process as we examine how a camera works, how film captures light and store images, how motion pictures got started, and how filmmakers make images move. Spend more time in the lab learning the tools and techniques that real chemists use. and perform some spectacular hands on experiments.

Mad Science and NASA have teamed up to bring you the excitement and wonder of space in this new voyage of discovery. See the principles of thrust and propulsion at work as we explore the atmosphere on earth and beyond! Watch star dust burn, and journey through a galaxy as you investigate the life cycle of stars. Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse in the "mad" planetary tour. Probe the mysteries of meteors and bounce around satellite light as your learn about space phenomena. It's out of this world!

All campers should wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that may get dirty.

UNDERGROUND EXPLORERS- HALF DAY

Dig up the ancient past and solve mysteries. Learn about archaeology and the techniques scientists use to excavate long lost cities! Discover ancient civilizations and the tools and artifacts they used in everyday life! Study bone fragments, pottery shards, amber deposits, and fossils, understand what they can tell us about history! Make and take-home projects each day, like a fossil reproductions, an amber time capsule, coins from around the world!

Campers should wear close toed shoes, wear clothes that can get dirty. Children are encouraged to wear sunblock and bring a snack and drink each day to camp. For full day camps, children should also bring a lunch.

SENIOR ADVISORY COUNCIL The Senior Advisory Council serves as an interface between the center’s staff and senior participants to advise city staff about activities, programs, and concerns affecting the senior community. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00pm in Room 7.

SENIOR PEER ADVOCATES (SPA) SPA meets on Thursday mornings from 9:00am-11:00am.

The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) provides free and objective information and counseling about Medicare. Volunteer counselors help senior 60+ understand their rights and health care options. Meets the third Thursday every month.
