SEASON OUTLOOK One year after posting the program’s first .500 record since 2008, the Saint Joseph’s field hockey team is looking to take the next step in its quest for an Atlantic 10 Championship. And in 2015, that next step will happen on the Hawks’ home turf, as SJU will host the 2015 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship at Ellen Ryan Field. The opportunity to play for the league title on City Avenue is certainly one of the many goals that head coach Lynn Farquhar and her staff have fostered among the members of the squad. “Our focus is on the process, and I believe that if we take care of the process, the results will be greater,” said Farquhar, now in her second year on the sidelines at SJU. “We believe we can be in the tournament, but we need to do the work to get there.” The squad has embraced Farquhar’s approach to the game, and the members of the team have committed themselves to achieving their own set of lofty standards. “In year one, the goal was to create the standards and foundations that we would all live by and believe in,” Farquhar said. “We implemented them last fall and lived by them in the spring. The most important one is that the team comes first. We want to give one hundred percent effort in everything we do and have a positive attitude and outlook on everything. I think what’s pretty cool is that our freshmen heard about it before they got here, and they’ve come in ready to help us get to the next step, we’ve picked up where we left off in the spring.” This season’s squad is a mixture of returning veterans and talented newcomers, and that blend of experience and youth is no more apparent than on the Hawks’ forward line. Redshirt senior Tori Popinko is SJU’s leading returning scorer, having notched four goals in 2014, and she will be relied upon to provide a veteran presence up top. Senior Claire McDugall returns as well, a year removed from notching a pair of goals while playing in all 18 games for the Hawks. Sophomore Jackalyn Pauling will be a key part of the offense as well. Pauling was named one of the squad’s three captains, and her on-field leadership has already become evident throughout the preseason. “What’s special about Jackalyn is that she’s always making sure her teammates are set; she has that ‘I want the team to succeed’ mindset,” Farquhar said. “She is really trying to absorb the coaching points and put them to action. She’s really trying to lead on the field with her voice, which has been neat to see.” A trio of incoming freshmen will be expected to contribute to the attack as well. Anna Willocks has a strong nose for the goal and will inject a strong presence into the lineup. “Anna has a desire to go forward at speed and it’s really exciting to watch,” Farquhar said. “She is powerful going forward, and her desire is obvious when she plays. Her presence, power, and drive will help fuel others in the forward line.” Local products Taylor Leonhardt and Lauren Zimmerman will see time on the forward line as well this season. Leonhardt has shown some spark coming off an

injury that prematurely ended her final high school season, while Zimmerman has adapted well to learning a new position in her first collegiate training camp. Despite fielding a relatively young squad in general, the Hawks are fortunate to return valuable experience in the midfield. Senior Nadia de Vries and junior Melanie Colozzi combined for 25 starts last season and will once again serve in vital roles in the SJU lineup in 2015. Junior Emily Nonnemacher also returns, and will look to use the experience she gained as part of the Pennsylvania High Performance Team over the summer to help push the Hawks to new heights. Madison Shields will also see time in the midfield in her second season on Hawk Hill. Juniors Kerri Turk and Katja Hansen will be key parts of SJU’s transition game; Turk, a forward by trade, has dropped into the midfield to help link up play, while Hansen has stepped up from the backline to play an important role in moving the ball forward. Hansen was also named a captain for the upcoming campaign, and her work rate and tactical understanding have not gone unnoticed by her coaches and teammates. “Katja trained with the High Performance team along with Emily, Jackalyn, and Melissa Herd, and that really helped her,” Farquhar explained. “She is adaptable, so she’s been able to become more of an attacking threat while also developing her defensive game.” Freshman import Amy Smit will make an immediate impact in the midfield, as will newcomer Monica Tice. Smit, along with Willocks, hails from New Zealand, while Tice is fresh off a gold medal in the U-19 division at the USA Field Hockey National Futures Championship this summer. Also joining the midfield brigade is freshman Danielle Bunten,

SEASON OUTLOOK while fellow rookie Abby Alexis will see time out on the wing as well. The Hawk defensive corps will be spearheaded by Hansen, graduate student Jenny Morris, and Herd, a sophomore. A native of Scotland, Morris has made an immediate impact on her new squad as she was named a captain in her first year in the Crimson and Gray. Morris brings a bevy of world-class experience, having been capped by the Scotland senior national team on three occasions. “Jenny will be a good voice on our backline,” Farquhar said. “Her international experience and organization will be good for us.” Herd was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team last season and will look to build on her outstanding freshman campaign. Joining the veteran trio will be a pair of freshmen in Joely Helder and Meghan Sack, whose contributions will go a long way towards keeping opponents off the scoreboard. The last line of defense, of course, is the goalkeeper, and junior Amelia Deibler returns to the Hawk cage after playing every minute of the 2014 season. Making the move from the midfield to the cage is sophomore Bridget Kilgallen, who appeared in 17 games last season before putting on the pads during the preseason. That preseason has been crucial for the Hawks as they look to meld the squad together in time for a pair of key matches to start the season. Saint Joseph’s is taking part in the 2015 Conference Cup tournament, kicking off the campaign with a home contest against Towson on August 28 before traveling to perennial power Maryland two days later. The Terrapins are ranked third in the NFHCA Preseason Top 20, and the matchup will give Farquhar, her staff, and her squad an early barometer of their progress.

junior Amelia Deibler played every minute in the cage in 2014 and will once again be the hawks’ starting goalkeeper this season.

“A team like Maryland will show you things that you can then implement, like high ball speed,” she explained. “At the same time, they will expose areas of our own game that we will need to improve upon. As long as you can learn from it, you’re going in the right direction. It’s a great display of character. I think you need those teams [on your schedule].” When the calendar flips to September, the Hawks will play three consecutive games against City Six opposition, beginning with a September 4 tilt against Drexel at Ellen Ryan Field. SJU will then play road matches at Temple and Penn over the course of the following week. “There’s always something special about playing within Philadelphia,” Farquhar said. “The teams are all very competitive, and to be a top program in Philadelphia is a statement.” The Hawks will play their first Atlantic 10 game at preseason title favorite and 18th-ranked Massachusetts on September 18 before heading to Brown for a non-conference game the following day. From there it’s back to City Avenue for games against Lock Haven and Saint Louis before a fourgame road swing takes the Hawks to Bucknell, VCU, Richmond, and crosstown rival La Salle. SJU plays four of its final five games at home, hosting William & Mary, Davidson, and Georgetown before the final road game of the season at Princeton on October 28. The Hawks will close out the regular season slate against Saint Francis (Pa.) on November 1. The Atlantic 10 Championship will be held at Ellen Ryan Field on November 6 and 7. Picked fifth in the league’s preseason poll, the Hawks will band together and aim to soar even higher than those expectations, securing a place in the postseason on their home turf. And if hard work, toughness, and togetherness translate into wins, that’s exactly where these Hawks will be come November.

HEAD COACH Lynn Farquhar Old Dominion ‘05 Second Season

After leading the Saint Joseph’s field hockey program to its first .500 mark in six seasons during her debut campaign, Lynn Farquhar returns to Hawk Hill for her second season as the head coach of the Hawks. Farquhar’s first season on the sidelines at Ellen Ryan Field saw Saint Joseph’s post a 9-9 mark, the Hawks’ highest win total since the 2008 campaign. In addition, SJU started the season with wins in its first two games for the first time since 2006.

Seniors Jordan Martin and Nicole Gerdes had career years under Farquhar’s guidance, as Martin was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and Gerdes earned Second Team honors. Freshman Melissa Herd was also tabbed for the league’s All-Rookie Team.

Saint Joseph’s marks Farquhar’s first head coaching stint after serving as an assistant on the staffs of a number of highly-regarded Division I programs. She helped steer those teams to six NCAA Tournament berths, five conference championships, and one Final Four. She also has a proven track record of success on the recruiting trail, both domestically and with student-athletes from around the world.

That knack for finding talent overseas has borne itself out in her first recruiting class at Saint Joseph’s, as the Hawks have welcomed student-athletes from Scotland and New Zealand for the 2015 season.

HEAD COACH in program history. Delaware went undefeated in the Colonial Athletic Association and swept the regular season and tournament championships en route to a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to her stint at Delaware, Farquhar served as the associate head coach at both James Madison University and Syracuse University. The Dukes reached the CAA Tournament in both of her seasons at JMU, while Syracuse reached the Final Four in 2008, the national quarterfinals in 2009 and 2010, and four consecutive Big East Tournaments in her four seasons in New York. Farquhar is no stranger to Atlantic 10 competition, as she began her coaching career as an assistant at the University of Richmond. In two seasons, she helped guide the Spiders to a pair of Atlantic 10 championships and NCAA Tournament berths.

She is active with the United States Field Hockey Association, serving as a High Performance assistant coach and as an administrator at the USA Field Hockey Women’s National Championship in 2014. A member of the Alliance of Women’s Coaches, she has displayed a passion for sharing the impact that sport has on life skills and development.

A 2005 graduate of Old Dominion, Farquhar was a part of the Monarchs’ squad that won the national championship in 2000. The native of Alexandria, Virginia, was also named an Academic All-American and a regional First Team honoree during her playing career.

COACHING STAFF Katie Brady Duke ‘06 Assistant Coach – Second Season

Katie Brady (nee Grant) returns to the Saint Joseph's field hockey coaching staff for a second season in 2015. “Katie’s drive and love for the game is a great match for Saint Joseph’s University and our field hockey program,” said head coach Lynn Farquhar upon Brady's appointment. “As a psychology major at Duke and former teacher, Katie embraces individual student development. On the field, her former coaching positions and experience as a standout player with Final Four exposure and National Team involvement will help elevate our attack.” Brady helped the Hawk offense post its best goal differential in six years in 2014, while Jordan Martin notched a career high in goals scored and matched her career best in points en route to First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors under Brady’s tutelage. In all, eight Hawks either matched or exceeded their previous career bests in goals scored during Brady’s first season on Hawk Hill. Brady joined the Hawks after spending two years as the head varsity coach at St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C. She is also the director and coach of the U19 Jackals Field Hockey Club, where she prepares athletes for USA Field Hockey events and additional recruiting opportunities. Brady began her coaching career as an assistant at Columbia University from 2010-12, where she was involved with all aspects of the program with a focus on the offensive unit. Brady also served as the head varsity field hockey coach at Stuart Country Day School in Princeton, New Jersey, where she compiled a three-year record of 50-13-3 en route to three conference championships, a Mercer County championship, and the New Jersey State Prep Championship title. A 2006 graduate of Duke, Brady helped lead the Blue Devils to four NCAA tournaments, three National Championship game appearances, and a consistent top national ranking. A threetime All-American and NCAA All-Tournament Team selection, Brady holds the school record for career assists (61) and points (223) and is a two-time All-ACC selection, earning Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2005 and Rookie of the Year honors in 2002. She ranked 11th all-time in career points in Division I field hockey history and inspired the Katie Grant Offensive Player of the Year Award, given annually to the team’s top offensive player. Both during and after her collegiate career, Brady was a member of eight National Team squads and seven Junior National Teams. Most recently, she competed in the Women’s National Championship in June of 2012, leading her squad to the tournament title. Also excelling internationally, Brady has played in both the Junior World Cup and the Four-Nation Tournament in Santiago, Chile, the Junior Pan-American Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Easter Tournament in Valkenswaard, Netherlands, the Honor Division in Spain, and the Montreal Cup.

COACHING STAFF Anna Zarkoski Richmond ‘14 Assistant Coach – Second Season

Former Atlantic 10 standout Anna Zarkoski, a native of Norristown, Pennsylvania, is back on the SJU sidelines for a second season in 2015. “Anna is a great young role model who embodies the meaning of an exemplary student-athlete,” head coach Lynn Farquhar remarked upon Zarkoski joining the staff in 2014. “Anna’s collegiate career showed distinct improvement throughout each year, and her passion and detailed eye will transfer well into the coaching world. Her goalkeeping expertise will surely strengthen our defensive unit at SJU.” Under Zarkoski’s tutelage, goalkeeper Amelia Deibler posted the lowest goals against average of her career, and the lowest of any keeper to start every game in a season since 2008. In 2013, Zarkoski became the first Richmond field hockey student-athlete to earn First Team AllAmerica honors, wrapping up an outstanding career between the pipes for the Spiders. She was also named an NCAA Statistical Champion, posting the nation’s highest save percentage (.824) for the second time in three seasons. Zarkoski was also named to the Atlantic 10 AllConference First Team in 2012 and 2013. She also earned Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team honors in 2013, while being named a Third Team All-America and Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree as well as a member of the NFHCA National Academic Team in 2011. After her senior season, Zarkoski was selected to take part in the NFHCA Senior AllStar Game. She also has experience on the international level, as she was selected for the U.S. National Developmental squad and represented the United States in the 2012 Junior Pan Am Games. An alumna of Villa Maria Academy, Zarkoski graduated from Richmond in 2014 and is currently pursuing her MBA at Saint Joseph's.

COACHING STAFF Martu Loncarica Syracuse ‘12 Assistant Coach – First Season

Former Syracuse standout Martu Loncarica has joined the Saint Joseph’s field hockey coaching staff in time for the 2015 season. She will serve as a volunteer assistant on head coach Lynn Farquhar’s staff. “I am excited to welcome Martu to the Hawk family,” said Farquhar. “She shares a contagious energy and passion for life that translates on and off the field. I’ve been able to see Martu flourish as a player, a person, and now as a coach. Bringing experience from a top field hockey culture both in Argentina and at Syracuse is a huge asset, as is her desire to compete.” “I am honored to join the Hawk family and I look forward to supporting the growth of the program by sharing my passion for and knowledge of the game,” Loncarica said. “I am privileged to assist Coach Farquhar and her staff in this endeavor.” Loncarica comes to Hawk Hill after serving as the Director of Field Hockey Operations at her alma mater for the past two seasons. During her tenure on the sideline, the Orange reached the championship game of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history in 2014. A three-time All-American on the pitch, Loncarica is Syracuse’s all-time leader in career points with 139. She also holds the Orange’s career record with 65 assists. A team captain as a senior, she earned a Syracuse University Team Award in 2011 after being named Syracuse’s Female Athlete of the Year in 2010. She was named to the Big East All-Conference Team three times as well. Loncarica helped lead Syracuse to the Final Four and the first of three consecutive Big East Conference regular season titles as a freshman in 2008. That same year, she set a singleseason school record with 31 assists that still stands today. Her 65 points in 2008 are the second-most in a season in Syracuse history, while she also holds the single-season record for goals, assists, and points scored by a freshman. Loncarica added a 17-assist campaign in 2009, giving her two of the five-highest single season totals in program history. She shares the Syracuse record for assists in a game with three, a feat she achieved four times; no other player in Orange history has done it more than twice. She also posted a pair of eight-point games, which rank in a tie for the sixth-most points in a game in program annals. A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Loncarica represented the Buenos Aires All-Star Team on a pair of occasions in 2005 and 2006. She graduated from Syracuse in 2012 with a degree in nutrition, and earned her master’s in nutrition science in 2015.

COACHING STAFF Nick Roydhouse Syracuse ‘12 Director of Field Hockey Operations – Second Season

Nick Roydhouse has returned to Lynn Farquhar's field hockey staff at Saint Joseph's for the 2015 season, serving as the team’s Director of Operations. "Nick encompasses the spirit of Saint Joseph’s and the magis, to ‘live greater,’” Farquhar said. “We are delighted to have him join the field hockey staff. He brings a fresh perspective and inspirational mentality to the program. His tremendous heart and character are only surpassed by his work rate." Roydhouse played two seasons as a member of the Syracuse men’s soccer program after beginning his collegiate career at Hartwick. He served as captain of the Orange during his senior campaign, when he ranked second on the squad in points. The previous season, he was Syracuse’s leading scorer, contributing four goals. He was named to the Big East All-Academic Team in each of his two seasons with the Orange. An experienced club coach in both soccer and field hockey, Roydhouse represented his native New Zealand on the soccer pitch at the U-13, U-14, and U-15 levels, and was a member of the squad that took part in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. The following year, he was selected for New Zealand’s U-23 side in advance of the Olympic Games, but missed the tournament due to injury. ELLEN RYAN FIELD After spending three-plus seasons playing home games off-campus, the Hawks returned to City Avenue in 2011 when they opened up the brand new Ellen Ryan Field on the Maguire Campus. Named for the recently-retired former assistant athletic director and senior women’s adminstrator, Ryan Field is equipped with a top-of-the-line synthetic AstroTurf12 surface, state-of-the-art water cannons, an irrigation drainage system, a mobile press box, and bleacher seating for 200 fans. Ryan, who retired from Saint Joseph’s in August of 2011, served in the athletic department for 37 years and was the driving force behind the growth of the women’s athletics programs at Saint Joseph’s. She served as SJU’s first women’s basketball coach and also coached the women’s tennis team for a time. Her vision and dedication are the foundation upon which Ryan Field, and the women’s athletics program at Saint Joseph’s, are built. “When you think of women’s athletics at SJU, the first name you think of is, and should be, Ellen Ryan,” said Director of Athletics Don DiJulia. “We hope that by putting her name on this field, the University can honor her contributions now and forever.” Saint Joseph’s spent the 2008 through 2010 seasons playing predominantly at Drexel’s Buckley Field. SJU amassed a 12-12 “home” record at the facility during that stretch.

ThE hAwK

One of the most famous mascots in college sports, the Saint Joseph's Hawk has been flapping its wings for nearly 60 years. The Hawk, which celebrated its golden anniversary in 2005-06, is best known for staying in constant motion by flapping its wings throughout every basketball game and representing the Saint Joseph's motto, "The Hawk Will Never Die." Saint Joseph’s athletic teams have been recognized with the nickname “Hawks” since 1929. At that time, the school’s yearbook editor initiated a contest among the student body for a symbol. More than 100 submissions were narrowed, with “Hawks” winning out over “Grenadiers” by a slim margin. The name was appropriate because it typified “the fighting spirit of our crimson and gray athletes and it is suggestive of the aerial attack which has made our football team famous.” Football, ironically, was discontinued at SJU following the 1939 season. The Hawk mascot has garnered numerous accolades in its over 50-year history. It has been selected as the nation’s top mascot by The Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Street & Smith’s Basketball Yearbook, ESPN College Basketball magazine and was nominated for the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2008.

2014 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS • Saint Joseph’s posted its highest win total and its first .500 record since 2008. • The Hawks opened the season 2-0 for the first time since 2006. • SJU’s nine wins are the most under a first-year head coach since the 1987 squad won 10. • The Hawks met three opponents for the first time in 2014 – Appalachian State, Brown, and Davidson. SJU won all three of those contests. • Senior Jordan Martin led the Hawks in goals, assists, and points for the third consecutive season. She earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team honors, the fourth season in a row in which she received postseason accolades from the league. • Senior Nicole Gerdes ranked second on the team in goals and points and was named to the A-10 AllConference Second Team. • Freshman Melissa Herd was a two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week and was honored with a place on the league’s All-Rookie squad. • Sophomore Kristen Moisey was named to both the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team and the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team. • Moisey was named a National Field Hockey Coaches Association “Scholar of Distinction,” an award given to student-athletes whose cumulative grade-point average exceeds 3.90 for their collegiate career, for the second consecutive season. • Moisey was also named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, as were Gerdes, Herd, Martin, Melanie Colozzi, Katja Hansen, Sara Kolobielski, Claire McDugall, Jackalyn Pauling, Madison Shields, and Mia Tomkins. • Gerdes and Martin earned NFHCA honors for the fourth time, while Tomkins earned her second national academic award.

ATLANTIC 10 CONFERENCE On March 2, 1975, the idea of what is now the Atlantic 10 Conference was conceived. What started as an eightschool, men’s basketball-only affiliation has grown into a 14-university, 21sport league that is universally hailed as one of the best conferences in the country, and is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2015-16. That growth and prominence is a direct result of the ideals and commitments of the member institutions of the Atlantic 10 – Davidson College, The University of Dayton, Duquesne University, Fordham University, George Mason University, The George Washington University, La Salle University, University of Massachusetts, University of Rhode Island, University of Richmond, St. Bonaventure University, Saint Joseph's University, Saint Louis University and Virginia Commonwealth University. The Atlantic 10 was proactive in navigating sweeping conference realignment over the last few years, adding Davidson College, George Mason University and Virginia Commonwealth University. The additions have proven successful with all three institutions winning regular season and tournament championships. The league continues to draw national praise for its decisions during conference realignment in selecting strong academic institutions with basketballcentric, robust athletic programs. The 14 member institutions of the A-10 are united and strengthened by their diversity. Each is extraordinary in its educational mission, whether of a Catholic faith, a private university or a land grant institution. The varied pursuits of each member prove that there are many threads that weave the fabric for a great conference. The Atlantic 10 Conference, with a total population of over 76.5 million people within its geographic footprint of eight states and the District of Columbia, will crown champions in 21 sports this year: baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's golf, women’s lacrosse, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field, women's rowing, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, and women's volleyball.

The presidents and chancellors of Atlantic 10 institutions, in conjunction with Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade, have made a strong commitment to making the academic and athletics equation a successful one. Over the years, the league membership has strived to better recognize the academic accomplishments of its student-athletes. The Commissioner's Honor Roll, which cites every Atlantic 10 student-athlete with a 3.5 grade point average or better, recognized 3,029 student-athletes in 2014-15, a record for a 14-team A-10. The league sponsors Academic All-Conference teams in each of its sports and honors two student-athletes as the A-10 Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Moreover, the Atlantic 10 provides $70,000 in postgraduate scholarships awards to 14 student-athletes, one from each campus. The Atlantic 10 Conference annually earns high marks in the NCAA Academic metrics. why S-A-I-N-T joSEPh’S UNIVERSITy?

The corporate title “S-a-i-n-t” Joseph’s University, which has been in place since Saint Joseph’s was granted university status by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1979, is now the public title of the institution for all aspects of its operations. Previously, the abbreviation “St.” Joseph’s University was permitted in a number of alumni and athletic contexts. The vast majority of academic and government publications have referred to Saint Joseph’s University since at least 1986, as have most campus references with the exception of athletics. However, a university-wide “image campaign” has revealed the need to clarify this policy both internally and externally. According to the most recent edition of the Higher Education Directory, there are at least nine recognized “St. Joseph’s” among the nation’s colleges and universities. Only one of them – Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia – is a university-level, Master’s I, NCAA Division I institution. A complete spelling of Saint Joseph’s University in all contexts will help eliminate any confusion among higher education and other public constituencies. Style information for print, electronic and digital media is available. It includes accepted abbreviations of the corporate name (e.g., “SJU” or “St. Joe’s” in headlines or certain informal references) as well as prohibited usages (e.g., partial abbreviations such as “St. Joseph’s” or “Saint Joe’s”). THE UNIVERSITY Founded in 1851, Saint Joseph’s is an independent, Catholic, Jesuit university teaching disciplined reasoning, effective communication and a love of learning. From Willings Alley in Old City Philadelphia to Stiles Street in North Philadelphia to its current location on City Avenue, Saint Joseph’s has continued to grow and change with the times. The University combines the Jesuit tradition of academic excellence, a history of service and an ideal campus location to produce successful students who strive to make a good world even better. Full-time, undergraduate day enrollment comprises approximately 4,560 students. Graduate, evening and executive programs push total enrollment to more than 8,000 students.

THE JESUIT TRADITION OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Saint Joseph’s nationally-recognized academic reputation is confirmed by ongoing acknowledgment in Barron’s, U.S. News & World Report and Peterson’s. The Jesuit tradition of intellectual inquiry and personal concern manifests itself in small, challenging classes taught by a caring faculty. Graduate assistants do not teach, so undergraduates can be sure they are receiving the very best educational experience from trained experts. One-on-one interaction between students and faculty is a reality at Saint Joseph’s. A solid liberal arts curriculum provides across-the-board learning for every student. Supporting that curriculum are comprehensive academic majors and learning facilities. The result is a broad education that prepares students not only for employment and graduate school, but for life itself. In the fall of 1998, SJU opened the $25 million Owen A. Mandeville Hall, which houses the Erivan K. Haub School of Business, the Center for Food Marketing and the region's first "Teletorium" and "Moot Boardrooms." An 87,000-squarefoot international academic center featuring state-of-the-art distance learning technology, it is located near the corner of 54th Street and City Avenue.

A HISTORY OF SERVICE The students of Saint Joseph’s University are dedicated to making today’s world even better. A natural spirit of volunteerism has enabled the University’s community service programs to become the most popular extracurricular activities on campus. In addition, a Service Learning program allows students to receive academic credit for their work

outside the classroom. SJU offers local, national and international opportunities for student service. From North Philadelphia to Camden, N.J.; from New Orleans to the Appalachian Mountains, Saint Joseph’s students embrace the Jesuit mission of serving those in need. The Thanksgiving Dinner Dance for area senior citizens and the Hand-in-Hand Festival for the handicapped are two annual student-run events that draw thousands of special visitors to campus for fun and friendship.
