SERMON NOTES

AT S T. JOHN’S OPERATION BABY BOTTLE

LEARNERS’ EXCHANGE

Today is Mother’s Day and the Crisis Pregnancy Centre (CPC) starts its Annual Operation Baby Bottle Fund Raising Campaign. Their centres are dedicated to serving and supporting women struggling with unplanned pregnancy, post abortion grief, domestic violence, and sexual assault. They also provide information to teens about healthy sexuality.

Every Sunday in the Café Room at 9:00 am, Learners’ Exchange offers stimulating speakers and engaging discussions.

If you are interested in supporting the CPC in this exciting operation, please pick up a baby bottle(s) from Janice or Kelsey in the church foyer between the services, fill it with money and return it to the church on Father’s Day, June 17. For further information on CPC, go to www.optionscentre.ca

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS DAVID SHORT?

PRAY FOR THE ALL-IN

Our Rector, David Short, and his wife Bronwyn, will be away for the next several weeks combining ministry work and holidays. We are grateful to God for these ministry opportunities and that both David and Bronwyn are able to participate in, furthering St. John’s commitment to resourcing gospel ministry outside of our own church.

The “All-In” retreat is next weekend and we are excited! The All-In is Student Ministries’ big end-of-the-year retreat on Anvil Island, when Junior Youth, Senior Youth, and Ekklesia get away, grow closer to God and closer to one another!

Their first stop is Pretoria, South Africa where David will be leading a Bible training conference for men. For the last several years we have been assisting former parishioner Doreen Nortier establish a women’s ministry in her church. Last year Bronwyn, Jan Hobbis, and Irena Tippet went to Pretoria to lead a Bible training conference for women. Over ninety women attended and were so encouraged by the teaching that they asked us to come and run a conference for the men this year. Their last stop will be in Jerusalem for the GAFCON conference. Both David and Bronwyn have been invited, along with Dan Gifford and Jeremy Graham. The GAFCON movement is a global family of Anglicans standing together with the aim of retaining and restoring the Bible to the heart of the Anglican Communion. Every five years delegates from around the world join together for a weeklong conference. Delegates assess the opportunities and challenges for the gospel in 21st-century culture, plan for the future, and enjoy fellowship together.

Daniel Martinez, from St. Andrew’s and St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, will be speaking from the gospel of Mark and teaching us about the identity and mission of Jesus. It’s going to be amazing! Please pray: That students would encounter Jesus through quiet times, worship, and the talks. That students would experience deeper community through fellowship, free-time, and the fun events. That students would have a desire to express God’s love and share the gospel when they return.
