SERMON NOTES

What ’s up at St. John’s PRAYER ITEMS

LEARNERS’ EXCHANGE

Last Monday night over 40 people gathered together at the church to pray at our Quarterly Prayer Meeting. The theme of the evening was praying for evangelism: for people to come to faith in Christ. In groups of six we prayed by name for friends and family, for the ministries of the church, and for the work of sharing the gospel in our city and neighbourhoods. We would love for you to join us in praying for evangelism. Last Friday, in our weekly email newsletter “What’s Up” we included a link to the prayer booklet that we used at the meeting. The booklet follows the meeting agenda and includes prayers of thanks and petition that you can use in your small groups or in personal prayer.

Every Sunday in the Café Room at 9:00 am, Learners’ Exchange offers stimulating speakers and engaging discussions.

If you didn’t receive the newsletter let us know at staff@sjvan.org and we can either add you to our distribution list or send you a copy of the booklet. KEEPING COMPANY WITH GOD // OCT 29 Life is often way too busy, whether at school, work, or in our family life. We need, as Jesus promises in Matthew 11:29, “rest for our souls.” Come to Keeping Company with God: rest, reflection and restoration at the end of the day on Monday, October 29 at 7:30 pm. This worship service, held in the Chapel on the last Monday of each month, is truly a service of restful renewal. It includes music, a short reflection on a Bible passage, prayers from across the centuries and around the world, and if you so desire, an opportunity to be prayed with by a member of our prayer team. If you have questions, please contact Manya Egerton megerton@telus.net WARNING: FRAUDULENT EMAILS PRETENDING TO BE DAVID SHORT A number of our staff and parishioners have received cryptic emails from someone pretending to be David Short and asking for “a favour.” Please be aware that these are “phishing emails,” not sent from David’s email address. If you respond, the person will inevitably ask for money, often in the form of iTunes cards. If you receive one of these suspicious emails please do not respond but contact Krista Friebel at the church office at krista@sjvan.org

“O Come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.” Psalm 95:1-2 One of the great gifts God gives his people is the means to gather together as a community and worship him. Come along on the first Thursday of each month to gather with other women to worship as we enjoy time together, sing, pray, hear from God’s word, and be quiet before him together. On Thursday, November 1 at 10:00 am we are delighted to have Polly Long preaching for us from Matthew, and Krista Carter from St. John’s Richmond leading us in singing. We hope you’ll join us and invite others you know from around Vancouver.
