REGENT EVENING PUBLIC LECTURES Throughout the summer Regent College offers thoughtful lectures that engage with a range of challenging issues. Explore scripture, theology, and culture with Regent faculty and visiting lecturers. These are all free and can be attended in person or livestreamed. Wednesday, July 17 // Barbara Armacost Justice, advocacy, and the redemptive power of law: Are we asking to do too much (or too little) in a broken world?

Word on the street is the Parish Retreat is a lot of fun. We’ll be out at Stillwood Camp from September 20-22. There’s free time, a kid’s program, a hot tub, and an excellent speaker.

FACTS* YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT BURKINA FASO • Burkina Faso is a former French colony which gained independence as Upper Volta in 1960 • the country was renamed Burkina Faso in 1984, which means “Land of Incorruptible People” • if you live in Burkina Faso you are known as Burkinabé • the country is multilingual – an estimated 69 languages are spoken • the official language is French, but the language most commonly spoken is Mossi • the capital of the country is Ouagadougou (can you say it fast??) • three quarters of the population live in rural areas • as of 2010: • 61.6% of the population are Muslim • 23.2% of the population are Roman Catholic • 7.3% follow traditional indigenous beliefs • 6.7 % are Protestant • there are buffalo, antelope, lions, hippos, elephants, crocodiles, and monkeys in Burkina Faso * These facts came from the internet so they might not be completely true. We’re not sure. We are sure that Sharyn will be sharing what’s actually happening in Burkina Faso. Join us after the 10:00 am service in the Fellowship Hall downstairs for the Missions Lunch.
