SENSE
Designing a smart device that tracks emotional wellbeing to help people address and deal with their mental health regularly. How might we help people acknowledge their emotions and take better care of themselves?
Personal Project - 1 Mnth
06 MENTAL HEALTH It affects how we think, feel, act and determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices
In an increasingly fast paced world, a lot of us forget that emotional health is just as important as physical well being.
07 THE PROBLEM
Mental health problems such as anxiety and depression are commonly caused by work stress and can lead to serious cognitive symptoms
1 in 5 individuals experience mental health problems each week and 35 - 50% of these individuals don’t get the help they need
About half of major depression are untreated with the rate of youth depression increasing at a fast pace
A silent killer with more than 90% of people who die by suicide show symptoms of a mental health condition.
Source: National Association on Mental Illness (NAMI) in 2016.
THE INSIGHTS
Empower individuals
Track your progress
Repetition
Disconnect to connect
Being active
Since mental health can affect anyone there is a need for individuals to recognize and receive personalized treatment
Due to the current lack of feedback individuals do not know if they are making progress
Therapy involves practicing repetitive tasks training the mind to cope with stress overtime.
People relax best when they are unaware of time and can rest the mind
Power poses, breathing routines and other techniques to encourage mindfulness.

“
JACOB REIDFORD Design Lead
It’s well considered yet different and has a local element to it, exactly what I was hoping for. Sitting closer to the floor and having a clear object instead of a complex sofa construction has been done in residential furniture quite a bit and it might be time to offer something similar for the work space. I think this is a great informal collaborative setting camouflaged as social space. Exactly what is often missing in offices today.

The team demonstrated a strong ability of collaboration across the various stages of the project from the initial brief to the delivery of the final presentation. The complexities of the project required a high level of communication and understanding whilst working to strict time lines which the team adhered to. The team managed the geographical and language barriers and responded positively to all feedback provided. We look forward to its further development with the aim of a successful market release.
”
This project was a great learning step in my journey so far. I was involved in the sketching, mockups, and generating concepts from initial ideas and taking decisions as an essential team member. Facing challenges as a team and understanding each other’s skill to solve them has been a great experience for me.
