About Skagen Designs In 1989, Henrik and Charlotte Jorst came to the United States from their native Denmark to follow a dream: that of owning and running their own business, to introduce the Danish lifestyle and philosophy into the lives of many. Skagen Designs was founded by these two natives of Copenhagen on the principle that beautifully designed high-quality objects can be created at reasonable prices. Today, Skagen Designs is an international company with corporate headquarters in Reno, Nevada, USA, with regional offices in Albertslund, Denmark and Hong Kong, China. About Skagen Denmark The Skagen Denmark brand came to life in 1989 and took inspiration from the Skagen town of Denmark. For centuries, the little village of Skagen and its kilometers of white sandy beaches have been visited by artists seeking the magnificent light; artists who by the 19th Century had spread Skagen’s beauty on canvasses that today are traded at leading auction houses. The Elements of Danish Design Danish design is a concept inspired by the natural elements found throughout the landscape of Denmark. Such elements include the seas of Denmark, the sandy shores, the unique modern architecture of the cities, the lighthouses, the harvest of the Danish coastline such as shells and grass, and the pure and clear Danish skies. Materials
Steel Skagen Designs uses stainless steel materials that are hypo-allergenic nickel safe. Stainless steel is an alloy compound that is ‘nickel safe’, not nickel free. Skagen manufacturers are held to the EU standard of 0.5ug. S/S mesh band (316 and 304). Note that ion plating does not contain any nickel during the production process. Stainless steel material is well known for its long lasting durability and non-corrosive properties and it is used across many industries.
Titanium Skagen’s titanium line of watches use titanium for the watch case and link bands. Generally, Skagen uses commercially pure titanium (Grade TA2) due to its special look and feel. Titanium is hypoallergenic and highly corrosion resistant. Some titanium line watches are plated in order to provide a color other than gun-metal gray. All have the strength and light weight of titanium and are nickel safe. Grade TA1
Unalloyed Titanium: Main use in heat exchangers, airframes, chemical desalination and marine parts, plate-type heat exchangers, cold spun or pressed parts. Platinize anode—High formability
TA2
Unalloyed Titanium: Airframes, aircraft engines, marine chemical parts, heat exchangers, condenser and evaporator tubing. Great combination of strength, formability, ductility and weld-ability.
TA3
Unalloyed Titanium: Chemical, marine, airframe and aircraft engine parts which require formability strength, weld-ability and corrosion resistance.
TA4
The highest strength pure unalloyed Titanium: Chemical, marine, airframe and aircraft engine parts, surgical implants, high speed fans, gas compressors, used in hydraulic and instrumentation tubing. Good formability and corrosion resistance combined with high strength
Ceramic Skagen Designs uses ceramic materials that are hypo-allergenic. Ceramic is an inorganic, nonmetallic material formed by the action of heat; it is a high-tech material that is scratch resistant. Although ceramic is strong and scratch resistant, it can chip, so it must be handled with care and stored properly.

Ion Plating In line with our mission to designing unique, yet attainable products, we incorporate distinctive color offerings into our watches, and we do so with an extremely reliable and established process called ion plating (referred to as IP in our marketing materials). Ion plating is one of the most advanced surface finishing processes for watches. In older, more traditional methods the coating on the surface of the case or straps can be rubbed off easily. Ion plating is made by the formation of chemical gases which leads to more durability, more wear resistance, and can also offer better color. Using different gas will form different colors: IPG (gold color) = TiN (Titanium nitride) IPG (light gold) = ZrN ( Zirconium nitride) IP violet/brown = TiAlN (Titanium aluminum nitride) IP grey (gun metal or charcoal) = TiC (Titanium carbonate) IP black = TiAlCN (Titanium aluminum carbon nitride) IP rose gold = TiN+Cu (Titanium nitride + Copper) IP platinum = Pt (Platinum)
The longevity of ion plating as abrasion tests have proven: • The Abrasion test for IP Brown, and Grey l can pass 48 hours; the industry assumes this is equivalent with color lasting two years; after two years, the plating will not simply come off; the watch will start to suffer discoloration daily (you will start seeing the silver from underneath).

Case
The watch crystal is a very important feature of the watch; its sole purpose is to protect the watch face. The two types of crystals featured in Skagen watches are a Regular Mineral Glass or an XE Hardened Glass. Both are quality crystals used in the watch industry, and the style chosen depends upon the diameter of the case, the water resistance performance, and the overall design of the watch. Skagen Denmark uses flat and curved glass. Keep in mind that all crystals, no matter what material or processes used, are susceptible to both breaking and scratching. No glass is scratch-proof; if a watch is advertised as “scratchresistant” it only means that the crystal is difficult to scratch, not impossible. In our continual objective of bringing our customers unique product at a high value, the XE Hardened Glass Crystal is a super hardened mineral glass imported from Switzerland, using a confidential hardening formula to increase the durability and reliability of the crystal. The new ring has an L-shape and a softer composition that has a “cushion” effect releasing tension from the case on the crystal. For all L-ring construction the inside case back marking will have an ‘N’ or ‘new1’ after the factory code so that it is easy to recognize the new and old construction.
Skagen Denmark watches use only the highest quality of crystals on the dial and bezel of the watch. By partnering with Swarovski, Skagen Denmark is elevating the brand with authenticity and integrity by using Made with CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements. Our contract reference number is 115 1156. CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements can be placed on the dial by a very strong glue, or setting (prong or seat). The size of the stone varies from .90 –1.10mm.

Diamonds All diamonds from Skagen Denmark are certified single cut round diamonds, SI1-2 H-I or Top Wesselton V V S 1-2. These diamonds offer luxury and value at an affordable price point.
Clarity All gem diamonds can receive a clarity rating based on the industry standard scale: FL (flawless)- I3 (heavily included). Diamond clarity is the quality of diamonds relating to the number of internal characteristics of a diamond called inclusions and surface defects called blemishes. Inclusions include: clouds, feathers, included crystals or minerals, knots, cavities, cleavage, bearding and internal graining. Blemishes include: polish lines, grain boundaries, naturals, scratches, nicks, pits and chips.
UP Setting
Carat Carat weight varies between 0.054-0.06 depending on the model.
Cut Cut refers to the facet proportions on the surface of a diamond. More than any other factor, the precision of these facets determines the beauty of the stone. All Skagen diamonds are round, single cut.
The precise shape, placement and angle of each facet determine a diamond’s brilliance.
Color The colored tinting found in most diamonds is caused by minute impurities within the stone. The untrained eye is incapable of making the color evaluations that can affect the value of a stone. Skagen uses H-I, near colorless, diamonds. D

M ove m e nt s White Label Skagen Denmark watches use a variety of movements in the Steel and Titanium Collections. The most commonly used is Japanese quartz movement and Swiss parts quartz. Japanese quartz movements are known for their precision in the watch industry as extremely reliable timekeepers. Swiss parts quartz movement is movement blanks that have been manufactured in Switzerland but assembled abroad. Swiss parts indication only appears on the movement not on the dial or case. A quartz movement is powered by a battery and is called quartz because the battery works in combination with a quartz crystal. The greatest advantage of a quartz watch is that the movements needs no winding to keep it working, in addition quartz movement watches require fewer time adjustments and less maintenance than mechanical watches.
Automatic Movement
A Japanese automatic movement is a mechanical movement with a self winding design. An automatic watch runs off the energy produced by motion which winds the spring. The movement features a rotor that spins when the watch is in motion. The mechanism transfers the energy from the spinning rotor to the main spring of the winding system. One drawback to automatic movements is that they can gain or lose a few minutes per month. Owners should check these watches once or twice a month to adjust the time. Black Label
Swiss Movement
Swiss Made quartz movements showcase a high level of craftsmanship in the Black Label Collection, ensuring only the utmost in quality. The movement components are assembled in Switzerland, and no facet of the movement leaves the factory without proper supervision and approval. A Swiss Made quartz movement combines the movement with the chassis and jewels of a mechanical watch to form the most accurate and most durable quartz watches. To reduce friction in Swiss Made quartz movements synthetic gem crystals are placed in the spaces of the movement; referred to as jewels. Using jewels rather than metal minimizes temperature changes and holds lubricant longer resulting in the high level of durability and accuracy these movements provide.
Batteries White label The battery life for the White Label watches varies from 2-5 years, with the average being 4 years. The battery life of a watch is dependent upon the complications of the watch, a simple 2-hand function watch-life will be longer than that of a multi-function watch; the more functions a watch offers the less the battery life will be. Black label The battery life for the Black Label watches varies from 3-10 years, with the average being 6 years. The battery life of a watch is dependent upon the complications of the watch, a simple 2-hand function watch-life will be longer than that of a multi-function watch; the more functions a watch offers the less the battery life will be. Skagen Denmark using highly reputable battery brands including Sony, Energizer, Maxell, and Renata.
Luminous Skagen Denmark uses Newlite C1 luminous material on some models which can last up to 30 minutes. The luminous appears white inlayed in hands and indexes and glows in green when activated. The luminous material needs to absorb natural or artificial light for a period of time in order to activate it, then gives off light at a rate lower than that of the absorbed light source. Many Skagen Denmark models use luminous indexes and hands to provide enhanced readability at night or in dark spaces.
Dials In general a Skagen Denmark watch dial is made of brass, which is the typical material found in watch dials and considered to be high quality. There are multiple dial finishes available in the Skagen line, these finishes are done on top of the brass dial; current finishes available in the Skagen Denmark line include sunray dials, shiny dials, brushed dials, Mother-of-Pearl dials, carbon fiber dials and gemstone dials . A sunray and shiny dial finish both give off a nice shine to the color of the dial, with the sunray graduating out from the center of the dial while the shiny dial is consistent throughout. The brushed finish dials offer a more matte look; the dial can be brushed in different directions which is done to best fit with the overall design of the watch; the dial can be vertically brushed, circular brushed, or an irregular brushing which is not as uniformly done, however still giving off a nice matte appearance. Dials can also be sandblasted for a nice matte look. Dials are also given accents using chrome labeling for indexes and outlines, applying CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements, or coated with enamel; there are many ways to make a watch dial unique. Mother-of-Pearl dials are the milky interior shell of a mollusk which is sliced thin to use on a watch dial, these dials are more expensive since Mother-of-Pearl is considered a wild animal product and has special importing requirements. Carbon Fiber is a material made with carbon filament threads, these threads are comprised of several thousand seven-micron carbon fibers held together by resin. The atomic structure of carbon fiber is similar to that of graphite, consisting of sheets of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal pattern, and is an extremely lightweight and resilient material. Carbon fiber is currently used on our watch dials in our Titanium men’s collection. The gemstone material used in some of the watches is manmade. The melting of glass creates an explosion of metallic crystal accents which results in the unique glittering appearance of these dials

Wa t c h B a n d S t a n d a r d s Skagen offers several types of watch bands to accommodate most customer preferences, which includes leather straps, silicone straps, mesh bands, metal links and ceramic links. The watch band is a very important feature of a watch – it not only reflects the design of the watch, it most importantly reflects the commitment to quality of the watch company. Of all the features a watch can offer, none of them will matter if your watch does not fit properly, is uncomfortable to wear, or worst of all falls off and is lost. As always, Skagen is educated on this topic and adheres to the highest of standards in regards to the tolerances of our band fits and attachments. Below is an illustration which explains the measurement used for our minimum length and maximum length specifications; you will note the measurements are taken from the inner diameter of a buckled watch, and the specifications vary by strap-type. Band Adjustment Skagen signature mesh bands are easily adjustable and are flexible.
Adjusting the clasp: LIFT: place a small tool (flathead screwdriver or adjustment tool) in the slot on the clasp. Lift the bar in the direction facing away from the straight pin (place the tool so the handle is in the direction of the case of the watch). Leveraging the tool against the straight pin may result in the straight pin bending. SHIFT: the adjustable buckle to the desired position (make sure the clasp is set in one of the indentations on the back of the band). PRESS: press the slotted clasp closed – not using the straight pin as leverage to protect against bending.

Securing the Clasp - Skagen signature mesh clasps are easily secured in three easy steps. HOOK – SNAP – CLASP. Pull the Hook over the pin, Snap the flat clasp closed, then close the security Clasp. Link bands are completely adjustable anywhere watches are serviced. Sizing a Link Bracelet 1. Using small, pointed tool, insert tip into hole on underside of band and push the pin out. Grasp pin and pull out. Arrows on band indicate direction that links are to be removed. 2. In order to remove one link, two pins must be removed.

3. If removing more than one link, remove an equal number of links from both sides to keep the symmetry of the wristband. 4. After removing the necessary number of links, tap the remaining pins back into place using a small nylon head hammer.

*Ceramic link bands do not use arrows as they are uni-directional and can be removed from either side. However the inner link contains a link pin sleeve that must be inserted prior to the pin in order to secure the pin. Loss of the sleeve will result in an insecure pin which can cause the links to separate if the pin falls out.

Wa t c h C a r e Skagen suggests the following solutions for cleaning metal and crystal surfaces: 3:1 solution of ammonia based window cleaner to water. 4:1 solution of rubbing alcohol to water. These suggested solutions will evaporate cleanly from metal and glass surfaces. *Do not use soap products, soap will leave residue behind when dry. To clean the case and crystal: Moisten a soft cloth with one of the above solutions. Gently wipe the case and crystal clean. Be careful not to put too much stress on the crystal as you clean. NEVER immerse or soak the case/crystal portion of the watch, regardless of water resistance rating. Moisture could seep past the seals over time. To clean the band or strap: Metal watchbands Dip a cotton swab in the above solution, and gently rub it into the soiled portion of the band. For more intricate mesh bands, you may want to use a soft bristle toothbrush or nailbrush. Be sure to cover the case of the watch during this process so as not to soak it. For stubborn soil, you may want to bring it to a jeweler for a professional cleaning. Rubber or Silicone watchstraps Simply wipe them down with a damp, soft cloth. Avoid soaps and solvents as they may dry or crack the plastic. Leather watchstraps (Top Grain) Top grain leather can be characterized by its smooth, somewhat shiny appearance. To clean this type of leather, follow the same procedure as with the rubber watchband. Simply wipe it clean with a damp cloth, using water only. You may want to use leather conditioner or a small amount of hand lotion to keep the leather supple over time. Top grain leather may develop a milky “haze” if left alone for extended periods. This can simply be wiped away or removed with leather conditioner. Leather watchstraps (nubuck) This is essentially full grain leather with the top layer shaved off, leaving a flat, smooth finish. A product called a “nubuck eraser” can be found at better shoe repair shops. It will help to remove most light stains and debris from nubuck.

Satin watchstraps Dampen a cloth with cold water and blot the strap in a downward motion, dry the strap immediately with a hand towel. Avoid soaps and solvents as they may stain the satin.
Ceramic watchbands Wipe the ceramic with a water soaked damp cloth, and then dry it with a lintfree cloth.
Wa t e r R e s i s t a n c e There are several features that help make a watch water-resistant. The most important is the gaskets, or “0” rings-made of rubber, nylon or Teflon which form watertight seals at the joints where the crystal, case back and crown meet the watch case. If the watch is a chronograph, the chronograph pushers will also have gaskets. In addition, water-resistant watch cases are lined with a sealant, applied in the form of a quick-hardening liquid, which helps keep water out. The thickness and material of the case is also a factor in determining whether a watch can safely be worn underwater. The case must be sturdy enough to withstand pressure without caving in. In general, this means a steel or titanium case. A screw-in case back, as opposed to one that pushes in, also contributes to a watch’s water resistance. A screw-in crown, a feature of many divers’ watches, helps prevent water getting into the case through the watch-stem hole. When it is screwed down it forms a water tight seal much like the seal between a jar and its lid. The different levels of water resistance as expressed in meters are only theoretical. They refer to the depth at which a watch will keep out water if both watch and the water are perfectly motionless. These conditions, of course, are never met in the real swimmer’s or diver’s world. In real life, the movement of the wearer’s arm through the water increases the pressure on the watch dramatically; so it can’t be worn to the depths indicated by lab testing machines. Most Skagen Watches are rated at 3ATM for water resistance. What does this rating mean? ATM or “atmospheres” is the amount of pressure a watch can withstand before leaking. A 3ATM watch will withstand pressures equivalent to about 30 meters, or 100ft under water. It is important to note that this is a measure of pressure NOT depth. For example, the pressure from the water coming from the shower hitting the seals of the watch is far greater than 3 atmospheres. The following are “real world” examples of the water resistance of each rating:
3ATM Water resistant to 30 meters (100 feet). Will withstand splashes of water or rain but should not be worn while swimming or diving.
5ATM Water tested to 50 meters (165 feet). Suitable for showering or swimming in shallow water.
Not Water Resistant – You will know that your Skagen watch is NOT water resistant if there are no markings on the watch.

A material made with carbon filament threads, these threads are comprised of several thousand seven-micron carbon fibers held together by resin. The atomic structure of carbon fiber is similar to that of graphite, consisting of sheets of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal pattern, and is an extremely lightweight and resilient material.
A high tech material made from aluminum and zirconia oxide, ceramic is formed by the action of heat and is scratch resistant. A watch with both timekeeping and stopwatch functions.
Crown Round knob that is located on the outside of a watch case used for setting the hands to the correct time and correcting the calendar indications.
Also called Top Ring. The ring that surrounds the watch dial or face. The Bezel is usually made of metal blends (such as stainless steel), base metals or plated metals.
Case The housing which contains the movement and other watch parts. Skagen uses solid stainless steel or 100% titanium cases.

Glass/Crystal A polished mineral glass crystal material that protects the watch dial. GMT
This term describes a wristwatch that displays a second time zone or a 24-hour indication. GMT stands for Greenwich Mean Time and is based on the globe being divided into 24 time zones as established in the Meridian Conference of 1884. The zero meridian runs through the Royal Observatory in the London suburb of Greenwich

Luminous
A material used to coat hands, numbers, and hour markers on watch dials in order to make reading the time in the dark possible. Skagen uses a non-radioactive material in their luminous.
MOP Mother of Pearl is an iridescent, milky interior shell of a mollusk that is sliced thin and used on a watch dial. While most have a milky white luster, mother-of-pearl is also available in pink, blue, brown or black.
Movement Assembly consisting of the principal elements and mechanisms of a watch or clock: The winding and setting mechanism, the mainspring, etc. Skagen uses precision Japanese or Swiss quartz movements and does not need winding.

Pusher
A watch containing sub dials used for various purposes such as determining time, date, day of the week and hour. All operations are controlled with a single crown. Any button that operates the special functions of a watch.
R etrograde Display A retrograde display shows the hours, day, date, etc linearly instead of circularly. The hand continues along an arc until it reaches the end of its scale, at that moment it jumps back to the beginning instantaneously. For the Skagen retrograde styles you have the option to set the time of the retrograde separately from the watch time, giving a dual-time function as well. Sapphire Coated Crystal
A highly scratch resistant crystal created by the fusion of sapphire and super hardened glass.
Screw Down Crown A crown which aids water resistance by sealing the crown against the case. Turn crown Crown counter clockwise to unscrew from case. Press and hold in crown while turning clockwise to seal the crown to the case.

Silicone is a synthetic rubber-like material; it is a polymer that includes silicone together with carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
