Science and educational facilities and research centers

Experience in the industry We are one of the major project contractors for the Polish education industry. We have successfully completed several dozen projects thanks to which Polish pupils and students can study in comfortable conditions. Modern auditoriums, air-conditioned rooms, spacious libraries and state-of-the art laboratories make up an infrastructure that helps ensure effective operations in science and educational facilities. Thanks to our longterm experience, the facilities we have built ensure professional support for education, scientific research and work, for pupils, students and academic staff alike. In this way, schools and universities can expand their educational offer and raise the level of offered services, resulting in competitive educational facilities not only in Poland, but also on a European scale. Based on technical knowledge and experience, the projects we have carried out generally include the construction of facilities, overhauls, upgrades and “turnkey” execution, including engineering tasks. We have our own design office, which ensures the proper execution of investments in the Design & Build (D&B) formula. We have participated in the completion of a number of facilities for universities that attract thousands of Polish and foreign students on a yearly basis. We have completed numerous projects for tertiary education institutions in Poznań, Rzeszów, Łódź, Olsztyn, Warsaw, Suwałki, Toruń, Gorzów Wielkopolski and Wrocław.

Our project portfolio includes facilities for the Łódź University of Technology (Information Technology Center), Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technology, Biology, Institute of Political Sciences and Journalism), Poznań University of Technology (Academy of Music and Lecture and Congress Center including Aula Magna), University of Rzeszów (Center for Innovation and Transfer of Natural Sciences and Engineering Knowledge as well as Science and Educational Complex of the Microelectronics and Nanotechnology Center), Wrocław University of Technology and University of Wrocław (Library) and educational facilities for the Wrocław University of Economics and University of Lower Silesia run by the Towarzystwo Wiedzy Powszechnej. Our completed projects also include the construction of science and technology parks, including those in Kielce, Sosnowiec, Opole, Nowy Kisielin or Szczecin. It is because of these that collaboration between universities and businesses has become possible. This is the place where entrepreneurs develop their companies based on the latest infrastructure, access to expert knowledge and technology transfer. It is in centers like these where new, dynamic companies and start-ups are formed that contribute to the social and economic development of the region, attracting experts and creating jobs.

New Drawing Center at the Warsaw University of Technology The building housing the Faculty of Transportation at the Warsaw University of Technology has gained a new wing. The New Drawing Center encompasses educational rooms that provide new, comprehensive solutions within the scope of various information and communication technologies. A new auditorium for 168 persons, 10 specialized laboratories with telecommunication systems for transportation needs (including one with a passenger vehicle simulator) and 41 administration and office rooms were built. By always bearing in mind the comfort of the users and the need to provide the best possible education and work conditions, we ensured the rooms were soundproofed with suitable acoustic properties.

The Drawing Center increased the level of education of the students and ensured the university could enjoy a competitive position among Polish and foreign academic centers.

Science and Technology Park in Opole For the Science and Technology Park in Opole, we built the office building as well as the laboratory and research building, all of which are truly part of the 21st Century. We created modern, functional and spacious interiors, so that companies from the biotechnology, organic chemistry, automation, robotics and mechatronics sectors could establish themselves there. It is a place for the development of enterprises, with particular focus on the high technology sector. The park is able to compete with similar centers across Poland as a place for research and the implementation of new technological solutions where science and business come together. We have prepared the facility taking into account the needs of persons with disabilities. 2015, Opolskie Voivodeship Client: Science and Technology Park in Opole Usable area: 1,700 m² Net value: PLN 6,202,145

“Skye Inc”, Technology Incubator of the Kielce Technology Park in Kielce We carried out works to create a modern complex and a network of laboratories dedicated to the innovative implementation of research. Here, entrepreneurs, students and scientists are able to take advantage of modern technology transfers and collaborate with domestic and foreign innovation centers. We also adapted various rooms for the Energy Science Center, which organizes expos about methods of energy generation. Thanks to PV panels, the facility is both user-friendly and environmentally friendly and is very cost-effective to maintain.

One of the entrances to the building has been designed as an irregular ellipsoid resembling a bean, which symbolizes newly born, germinating life.

Did you know that... We turn a client’s vision into reality. At the Technology Incubator in the Kielce Technology Park we adapted rooms for the needs of the Energy Science Center (ESC), which is the Kielce’s version of Warsaw’s Kopernik Science Center. The Center was created for the organization of expositions concerning various methods of energy generation. Our experience, knowledge and engineering potential allow us to successfully execute even the most sophisticated of projects. An example is the educational complex at the University of Rzeszów, where were built an auditorium for 280 people in the form of a flattened, expanded ball - the “Capsule”. It was one of the most interesting and, at the same time, most difficult elements of this facility. Due to its shape, the “Capsule” is unique in its structure throughout Poland. We consider issues of health and safety at work to be just as important as keeping deadlines and budgets. We work by observing safety at work standards that are binding for all Skanska constructions throughout the world. Human health and safety is a top priority for us. Hence were are one of the signatories of the

Cooperation for Safety in Construction Industry - an initiative which aims to improve safety at Polish construction sites. This Cooperation has been established by the largest general contractors in Poland. We have implemented an integrated management system for compliance with the EN-ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards. This is confirmation of our quality and compliance with standards in the field of health and safety at work, in addition to environmental protection. We are the leader in the field of green construction, which has been confirmed by LEED certificates (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – a system for certification of sustainable buildings) awarded to, amongst others, offices that we have constructed. We apply state-of-the-art technology meaning our facilities consume less energy and water, they are more comfortable, healthier and serve the persons working there better. For us, green construction is a step towards sustainable development. At the Sosnowiec Science and Technology Park, we created a unique wall of living vegetation with an irrigation and lighting system. The entire wall maintenance is fully automatic.

Laboratory of Bridge Science Center in Kielce We have built one of the biggest laboratories in Europe for testing full-scale structural elements. The new facility allows for testing the strength of large structural elements of bridges, among others girders of a length of up to 40m, and for conducting tests to determine product quality and conformity with the applicable standards. Owing to the improved structural solutions, the safety of bridge structures will increase. They will be able to better serve the local communities. The facility comprises of a laboratory and office building and the laboratory hall. This modern structure is an excellent educational facility for pupils and students.

New technologies and solutions tested at the laboratory can be applied in practice in projects being undertaken, which contributes to the development of the regional economy.

The Wenus Planetarium in Zielona Góra We transformed the Zielona Góra’s Wenus Cinema into Kepler’s Science Center with a modern planetarium, Space Flight Room and Chamber of Light. The center’s main attraction is a moving dome of a diameter of 12.5m and height of 6m, in which projectors presenting the entire planet system are installed. It is the only dome of this kind in the world with such a large diameter. Thanks to suitable technology, the dome is suspended on four chains that can be lifted up and “hidden” in the ceiling, and the room may be used for the organization of other events, e.g. concerts or conferences. Therefore, it is a truly multifunctional facility that the inhabitants of Zielona Góra can now use.

It is here where the kids can learn about the basic laws of physics and astronomy fans can discover universe-related facts, watching spectacular phenomena in the sky.
