WHAT IS FACADE?
A facade is the exterior face of a building. It’s not necessarily the front of the building. In an architectural design perspective, facade sets the tone and idea of a building’s function; it gives the audience a hint of what goes on inside a building. Many buildings today in New York City contain history in its facade. Some have sculptures and floral decorations made into the building skin. Some are more modern in terms of materials but alludes to traditional window sizes. Because New York City is a highly populated center of the universe, the buildings need to accomodate for the growth of the population, therefore buildings are more compact and streets walls are developed to maintain a level of city urban planning. In this lookbook, we collected multiple photographs to show you of New York’s finest facades. History is written in facades and we can’t say this enough. Firestairs are also very evident on facades. It’s quite the experience to be in when walking down a street in New York City.
