hello.

I am not an artist. I am an explorer of watercolor, a caveman who uses pastel, an eye of my camera, a friend on social media, and a designer in graphics. I am also an architectural designer who discovered my passion for art and expressive mediums during my studies in architecture and drawing. I have come across many artists who inspire me to do what I love and to share what I’ve learned. “Remember to leave your whites! is what my mentor, Irma Ostroff, always says. For I tend to fill in every void with hue as does my eyes see it so. I am constantly changing and redefining my skills to become a better explorer, caveman, eye, friend, and designer.

water color 2012 - present

Watercolor takes a designer to another realm. The lightness of the medium allows the artist to distinctively see form in nature. Watercolor has been a tremendous component to architectural representation and graphics. The fading colors allow for revelations in mind and hand. Irma Ostroff, mentor

KOI Winter 2014 Simple and gentle nature captivates our attention the more we try to embrace the more we fail to understand. It’s never about the physical touch rather it’s the mental emotion that triggers the heart’s actions. Before we realize the fish is already gone.

The Okino House Winter 2013 It’s a childhood taste that I can’t forget. Everytime I watch this film, it brings me back to the smell of my grandmother’s cooking in the basement of a house in Brooklyn. We would watch this film over and over. I still do today, but not as often as together as before.

Two Birds Fall 2012 First watercolor painting. The colors run wild. An exploration of patience. Learning to let the watercolors fade.

pastel works

2011 - present

The advantage of drawing with pastels is the immediate vision on paper. Pastels are made of raw pigment colors compressed with adhesive bonds. Many architects prefer pastel to initiate a design scheme because the ideas are transferred onto paper a lot quicker than other color-based art mediums. Irma Ostroff, mentor Daniel Hauben, mentor

Balcony Door Summer 2011 2011 was the year when I truly discovered my love and passion for art. I never saw myself as an artist. But the piece of soft pastel in my hands made me believe strongly that my art direction is what I see it to be and not what others perceive it to be. I really liked 2011, a lot. It was definitely the year I opened up the doors to let the good things in, and art was one of them.

18

Lampshade and curtain Summer 2012 First nuPastel drawing. Seeing the colors that reflect off the curtains.

Sunset Summer 2012 I love sunsets. It’s really the one thing I look forward to most in a day. Nothing feels better than knowing you’re going to be rewarded with the most beautiful aspect of the world at the end of the day. A close friend sent me a photo of a painting and it was what made me want to compose an impressional piece using pastel.

21

Kiki’s Delivery Service by Hayao Miyazaki Summer 2012 (On this page: Phase 1 of the process | On facing page: Final drawing.)

22

This is probably my most favorite Miyazaki film and art piece because it captures the calm and serene nature in landscape and architecture. It brings my mind and soul to a relaxing state. I can hear the ocean waves and smell the aroma carried in the breeze when I watch the film.

When details are represented through close-up imagination, it composes the conversation in that story. Camera: Nikon D5100

iPhones and new smart phones became a huge impact in our lives. We not only depend on having it by our side at all times, but it’s become the most convenient way to capture moments onto photo. Instagram is a success not only because it’s a camera application for the smart phones; it’s successful because it allows for social interaction between photographers and art. Hashtags also allows content to be shared worldwide and becomes a reference link to your photo or others’ photos. Follow me on Instagram at

romance

2013 We wanted to create a better space for the bare atrium in our school of architecture. The space itself contains steel grated stairs with two sets of crosswalks that lead to mezzanine levels. However, every time students use these stairs in the atrium, they feel cold and exposed as if someone is lurking behind them - a little bit spooky, don’t you think? Our solution and method is to hang vine bottles over the atrium stairs by attaching the wires and cables to the railings above as shown in the images provided. The bottles will glow and emit a warm and almost romantic feeling to the overall space of the school - this is the core of the building. Michael Buonanno, partner
