What's new this season?

After an excellent winter last year we have been inspired to scour the planet for new and exciting destinations opening up new opportunities for all ages and abilities. We’re running trips to multiple new European destinations this season from luxury Peak Experience in Leogang (page 50) to day tours in Montafon, (page 54), free-tour in Heiligenblut (page 54) to top notch instruction in Pila (page 71). We’re also branching out much further and taking the Ski Club across the pond to new resorts like Crested Butte and Breckenridge (page 96) and returning to freeride favourites Whitewater and Red Mountain (page 97). The Japan programme has expanded to three trips, all with their own unique adventure to different areas. You can find out more on page 94. Day touring holidays and beginner safaris and tours will remain part of the Freshtracks

programme, but moving forward, the more advanced trips and hut to hut tours will move to our sister brand Mountain Tracks. You can find the Freshtracks favourites still in the brochure on page 101. You’ll also find more single room holidays without supplement, including our new destination of the Silvretta Parkhotel in Klosters and more Peak Experience trips than ever on our most wide-ranging programme yet. We’re even trialling a 22- 39s holiday - with the aim of having a trip to fit everybody, regardless of age or ability.

WHY TRAVEL WITH FRESHTRACKS?

We love skiing as much as you do

People who choose a Freshtracks holiday come from all walks of life, but if there’s one thing our members have in common it’s that they LOVE to ski! And because we love it just as much as you do, our trips are all about the skiing. Yes, there are some great hotels and famous resorts, but we don’t base our holidays around fine cuisine, or the après scene - we are all about the time on snow. On piste, off piste, instruction, guiding, uphill, downhill and all over the hill - we aim to show you the best time on the mountain. We do this by gearing our holidays to abilities so that you are out skiing with other people about the same level as you. We match all of our trips to our ski profiles, so the first thing you need to do is have a read of them on page 18 -19 and see where you fit in. This is not an exact science, so don’t panic if nothing sounds quite like you - just give us a call and we can help you reach a decision. You can choose both an on and off piste profile, but we recommend only choosing an off piste holiday once you’re competent on piste and happy to ski the whole (groomed) mountain. There will always be a fastest and slowest in each group, and everything in between, but the idea is that you should all be similar enough to enjoy the day without anyone feeling out of their depth or bored.

WHY TRAVEL WITH FRESHTRACKS?

We can help you learn and develop

Many people start skiing with the Ski Club because they’ve reached the infamous plateau, or are seeking more from their holiday and skiing experience than just blasting the pistes – however much fun that is! We believe you can always get better, and there’s always something that an instructor or mountain guide can teach you, whether that’s technique or learning more about mountain craft and gaining a deeper understanding for the mountains. We run trips for all levels - from intermediates just four weeks in to their skiing journey, to expert off pisters and experienced ski tourers with a lifetime of miles under their skis. By working with top level instructors, we’ve created holidays that really help to push your skiing through the plateau and beyond. You might be getting to grips with carving, determined to master bumps or keen to not fall over every three turns once off the sides of the pistes. You may have many years of experience but really want to build confidence on

steeps and deeper snow, allowing you to get more out of your skiing. What ever your level, there's a Freshtracks holiday for you.

C Course Only

Photo: Ross Woodhall

Enjoy the flexibility to make your own transport and accommodation arrangements and still join in with our groups on a course-only basis. We have created more opportunities than ever to give you the chance to ski with other Ski Club members. Look out for this symbol C to find out which trips are available as course-only. Prices from ÂŁ475 for 5 full days off piste instruction or guiding. See our website for more information

WHY TRAVEL WITH FRESHTRACKS?

S

A great way to meet and ski with others

Let’s face it – skiing alone isn’t much fun. But we haven’t always got friends or family to go on holiday with, and that’s where Freshtracks comes in. Most of our trips are booked by individuals looking for great company and people of similar ability to ski with. We use our ski profiles and our holiday types to ensure that everyone on the trip is looking for the same thing from their time in resort. Many of our members make great friends on our holidays, and arrange to ski together again on another Freshtracks holiday the following season. Our trips are created specifically to allow solo travellers to book without having to worry about paying extra. We don’t run holidays that will penalise members for booking by themselves - we will simply allocate another same-gender member to share the room with you – where possible. If you do prefer your own space, single rooms are available on most holidays at a supplement, though may be in limited supply so it is best to book early if this is important to you. We also programme many holidays that include single rooms at no supplement - look out for this symbol. S

Photo: Ross Woodhall

WHY TRAVEL WITH FRESHTRACKS?

We cater for skiers of all ages

Our members come in all ages ranging from 6 on some of our family holidays up to late 80’s on our over 65’s (Peak Experience) holidays. Most of our holidays are aimed at adults aged 18-65 with the vast majority of our members falling in to their 40’s and 50’s – though we also run both family holidays for the younger generation as well as the under 40's. At the Ski Club we are proud to be one of the few companies that specialises in ski holidays for the over 60’s. We run the full range of holidays for our Peakers, as we like to call them - from cruisey piste holidays in comfortable 4* hotels, to 6 days off-piste day touring with mountain guides - and everything in between from intermediate to expert level. These are hugely popular holidays - and anybody who’s been on one of these holidays will tell you it’s a group of peers with a common interest enjoying the sport they love. Look out for this symbol PE to find your Peak Experience holiday.

WHY TRAVEL WITH FRESHTRACKS?

You’re part of a Club

Most Freshtracks trips are hosted by a Ski Club Leader. These highly-trained, enthusiastic volunteer members are an essential ingredient in making a Freshtracks holiday so special – looking after you from the moment you arrive, ensuring you know where to go, and helping the group to get to know each other. They also lead you on the mountain when you’re not in the hands of an Instructor or Mountain Guide. Our aim here in Freshtracks is to create a range of holidays to showcase the possibilities that are out there for all skiers. If you have a regular group to ski with and you have been inspired by our options available, you can book as a group. Either on one of our programmed trips or in your own private group. Customising your trip is the best way for groups of friends to get the most out of their skiing holiday. As with our scheduled courses and trips, you can choose from our range of holidays and courses on offer, including off-piste instruction, off-piste guiding, avalanche training and alpine touring... or a combination of all these options! We can adjust an itinerary to take in different ski standards and amend our set itineraries to suit your requirements. So, if you have a ready-made group of four or above, give us a call, let us know which holiday has inspired you and we can arrange it for you.

The Ski Club Leader Course

If you’re ready to take your skiing to the next level, the Ski Club Leader Course is the best place to do it. This two-week intensive course (and we mean intensive!) incorporates on and off snow leadership training which will leave you with so much more than just the famous blue jacket. The course, run by highly qualified mountain guides, instructors and current Ski Club Leaders will develop your group management skills and covers all aspects of mountain-craft necessary to lead Ski Club members around the mountain, including search and rescue, route finding and navigation, effective use of transceivers, and so much more. It will also take your skiing further than you thought possible, as you’ll be participating in performance clinics with BASI trainers - for this reason the Leader course is open to those at an Advanced Off Piste level and above. The Leader Course also covers leadership off the mountain and how to successfully manage large groups with ease. Candidates have said that the skills they’ve honed during this trip have benefitted them in many areas of their day-to-day lives, away from the snow.

On successful completion of the course, you become an official Ski Club of Great Britain Leader! As we all know, a challenge brings people together like nothing else, and the bonds you form with the other candidates often turn in to lifelong friendships. Dec // Tignes // £2999 Course price includes: • Transfers to/from Geneva airport • Half-board accommodation (twin share basis) • Performance clinic – three half days skiing/ snowboarding technique instruction by BASI trainers • Further training by mountain guides and BASI trainers • Leaders’ uniform – blue Ski Club jacket (Eider) • Lift pass for the duration of the course

Photo: Ross Woodhall

Not included in the price: • Flights • Personal insurance • Equipment as per Leaders’ equipment list rucksack and contents • Two-day BASP First Aid Course in the UK, prior to the course

WHY TRAVEL WITH FRESHTRACKS?

On Piste Early Intermediate Competent to ski all blues whatever the conditions & easy reds

Your Ski Profile We match all of our trips to our ski profiles, so the first thing you need to do is have a read of them and see where you fit in. Make a note of the appropriate symbol for your profile - and as you read through the rest of the brochure you can easily pick out the holidays that are right for you. (If you prefer to search by date you can find a listing at the back of the brochure. Again - you can pick out the right holiday for you by choosing the holidays displaying your profile symbol.) If you’re unsure about your ski profile, call us on 020 8410 2022 and we’ll be happy to help you find the right holiday.

Confident to ski blue pistes in all conditions. Skis reds in good conditions.

Your fitness is important When assessing your ski profile, one of the key factors to consider should be your current level of fitness. As you know, skiing takes an awful lot of energy and stamina, and it’s vital that you can keep up with the pace over the course of your holiday. As a rough guide, a skier with an average level of fitness can ski all day with an hour’s rest at lunch and may need to stop and rest after 15-20 dynamic turns. You should be at least this level of fitness to consider an off piste holiday. In the run up to your holiday, your best bet is to be doing aerobic exercise for a minimum of 40 minutes, three times a week. If you’re ski touring, you will need to consider your training programme several months before the trip. You can find advice on ski fitness from British ski champions Graham Bell and Chemmy Alcott at skiclub.co.uk/fitness. Alternatively, call our Info & Advice Team on 020 8410 2009.

At least a few weeks experience of skiing off piste, possibly with guides / instructors. Able to link several turns in light powder snow (just above boot height) on a uniform base. FRANCE

France

21

With more skiable days than anywhere else on the planet, France is usually seen as the world’s top ski destination. Resorts are connected and intertwine to create varied, sprawling areas and most of these are purpose-built so the skiing starts at your front door. What‘s more, with its proximity to the UK, getting out to resort is quick and pain free.

I haven’t laughed so much in years and I now ski confidently, with a smile! Susan Gyde Tignes

Chalet Freshtracks Flaine

Our off piste instruction weeks in Flaine are without doubt some of the most popular holidays in our programme, as they really do offer something quite special.

Our chalet hosts were fantastic in every possible way. Graham Coates Flaine

FRANCE 23

The Chalets The winning combination of first class instruction with Yann, Diane, Alain and their team, and a warm welcome from our chalet staff is the top choice for many of our regular customers who return to Flaine again and again. Our two chalets are very similar in layout and style and are both located in the colourful Scandinavian-style development Les Chalets du Hameau. Close by, you’ll find a small shop, restaurant and bar, plus there’s free transport which runs to and from the main resort until midnight. Each chalet has six bedrooms, with a large open-plan kitchen/lounge/diner complete with Scandinavian woodburner, flat screen TV and wi-fi. In true Scandinavian style, a sauna comes as a prerequisite in order to help you relax and refresh ready for another day’s skiing. The chalet staff will be serving up hearty breakfasts, scrumptious afternoon teas and delicious three course evening meals with two days off. We will also provide a pre-prepared meal for one of the nights off. There is also a good selection of wine to accompany the food. For more information or to book online visit skiclub.co.uk/freshtracks or call +44 (0)20 8410 2022

The Resort At the heart of the Grand Massif, Flaine has fantastic vast and varied terrain for skiers of all levels. As a resort built because of its majestic mountains and generous dumps of snow, Flaine benefits from one of the best snowfalls across the Alps, with an average of almost six metres a year. With its runs being predominantly north-facing, the resort is renowned for maintaining great snow coverage throughout the season. Situated in the centre of a snowy bowl, there’s a wealth of off piste terrain to ski, both within the bowl and also over the top of the mountain ridges, in between pistes, tree runs, couloirs, gullies, powder fields and backcountry routes dropping from 2,500m down to 700m.

Skiing in Flaine – The On Snow Experience

Flaine Exploration

Staying in the Freshtracks chalet is made even better by the epic on-snow experience that we want to give you. On all our Flaine holidays you will start the week with an exploratory warm up day to get your ski legs working again. Following this are five full days of expert tuition from some of the best instructors in the Alps, who aim to teach, guide, improve and entertain you! The only downside is when you'll have to leave!

Similar to our other Flaine instruction holidays, you will spend five days with Yann and his team but this time will ski tour for a couple of hours each day to fully explore the extensive Grand Massif. You will also receive expert off piste tuition to sharpen those skills providing a rewarding, scenic and remote skiing experience. Our partners at Sport 2000 in Flaine forum have an excellent range of freeride skis with touring bindings available to hire.

Alain Baudoin

Diane Moreau

Yann Westercamp

Many regulars will be familiar with Alain who has been a key part of our programme for the past couple of years. Previously director of the ESI ski school in Flaine, he is now working with us all season so he can teach what he loves the most – off piste and powder! Alain has been instructing in the Grand Massif all of his career and is an expert at getting the most from each individual he teaches whether skiing, snowboarding, telemarking or ski touring. Off the snow he is kept busy by his young family but if he has time will be found on either a mountain bike or sailing.

Diane is based in Flaine all winter, every winter, and has a tremendous knowledge of the area. Passionate about skiing and extremely well versed in Flaine’s terrain, Diane knows exactly where to take you to ensure you find couloirs, gullies and mountainsides that will always leave you wanting more. Being a patient teacher who’s open to new ideas makes Diane popular with Ski Club members. Her husband and young family are often in Flaine too, and Diane enjoys spending time with them when she’s not on the mountain.

Yann is our head instructor in Flaine and has been managing our weeks for over 20 years. He first arrived in Flaine in 1969, the year the resort opened, and has returned every season since! His intricate knowledge of the mountains and expertise means that Yann will always take you to the best snow. An ISIA qualified instructor with years of technical knowledge and experience to draw upon, Yann is held in very high regard amongst members. Aside from skiing, Yann spends his summers windsurfing, road and mountain biking – and sharing all of that with his friends.

We also work regularly with some other highly-regarded instructors carefully chosen by Yann. Luc Demontier and Philippe Clerc are both outstanding instructors, who have been very well received by our members and consistently receive excellent feedback.

Chalet Freshtracks Chamonix

Chamonix is perhaps the world's most famous off piste destination. With its reputation as a freeride mecca, Chamonix attracts mountain guides and backcountry addicts from around the globe, both to visit and to settle. It’s an area that’s impossible to get bored of, with new challenges each day from powder bowls to demanding couloirs and impressive glacial routes in dramatic scenery. And the best way to experience this legendary terrain? With Freshtracks of course!

FRANCE 27

The Chalet Chalet Shiraz offers an excellent level of comfort. There are six large twin/double rooms with en-suite, and a seventh twin room with its own detached shower and WC facilities. The rooms are spread over three levels, and the chalet also has a sauna and a hot tub to relax in after a hard day’s skiing. There is a large lounge and dining area with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy the delicious food and drinks, all prepared by the excellent hosts. A three course evening meal will be served on five nights plus we will also provide a pre-prepared meal for one of the nights off. The chalet also offers wi-fi and Sky TV. This spacious chalet is located in a quiet location near the village of Les Houches – a great base to explore the entire Chamonix ski area and find the best conditions. There will be a Freshtracks minibus and of course a Ski Club Leader to drive it. On the days with guides, you will all meet at the chalet and set off to that day’s chosen destination. Chamonix – the On Snow Experience

Superb. My first Ski Club Freshtracks trip – tremendous in all respects Clive Hall-Tomkin Chamonix

The Chamonix lift system consists of several distinct and very different ski areas high above a steep-sided valley where the town and its villages are located. From one day to the next you can explore the resort’s different ski areas: Brévent & Flégère, Les Grands Montets, Le Tour & Vallorcine (Domaine de Balme), L'Aiguille du Midi/La Vallée Blanche and Les Houches. And if that wasn’t enough, the Chamonix MontBlanc lift pass extends over to Courmayeur and even Verbier! All these different areas could prove a challenge if it wasn’t for our minibus to ferry you around. So no need to check bus times and walk to and from stops and lifts - we’ll collect you from the chalet door and take you straight to whichever area you’re skiing that day. We have three different holiday types that cater for our different skier profiles, starting off with our All Mountain Development weeks – intensive coaching for those that want to learn and improve across the full range of terrain and techniques – through to the more focused off piste and ski touring weeks. The instructors and mountain guides that we work with all hold the highest level of professional qualification in their field and offer the perfect mix of safety, knowledge and personality.

Our holidays offer: • The

best mountain guides and instructors to find you the best snow • Exclusive use of Freshtracks minibus • Comfortable accommodation in our lovely chalet

Nestled at the very top of the Tarentaise valley lies Val d’Isère. This picturesque, high profile resort is particularly popular with our members, and it’s easy to see why. On and off the mountain the resort oozes class, from the new wi-fi equipped gondolas to the slopeside restaurants. Every experience in this iconic resort is one of luxury. However, if you think that means the on-snow experience will be a sedate one then think again. Modern lifts whisk you up to 3,400m where dependable snow cover is waiting for you. Linked with Tignes, the area is made up of over 300km of pistes, keeping even the most mile hungry skiers occupied for a whole season. The 10,000 hectares of off piste terrain and alluring snow record satisfies backcountry addicts. Easily accessible couloirs and hidden valleys allow you to escape the crowds in an instant, and although you may feel as though you are worlds away you’re never too far from the hotel and a refreshing, well-earnt drink.

La Grave is a resort synonymous with extreme skiing, and holds a reputation as the connoisseurs choice when it comes to big mountain skiing. The resort itself is small and quaint, with no frills and no distractions. All trips are based at the cosy Auberge Edelweiss who offer a warm welcome, comfortable rooms and great food. Other than a few cosy bars and local amenities, there is not much in the way of après or off-snow activity, but after a long day conquering skinny couloirs and shredding steep tree lines what more could you need?

The variety of pistes has huge appeal to the developing all round piste skier. Gentle blue runs allow you to find your edges and fine tune technique, whilst steeper runs will test your new skills. Where some resorts are almost un-skiable during whiteouts, much of Les Arcs’ terrain is below the treeline, allowing skiers to ski with confidence. Perched on the edge of the largest skiable valley in the world, the resort boasts some of the best views in the Alps. With an abundance of bars and restaurants, there is plenty of opportunity to kick back after a hard day of carving up the mountain.

From the wide open slopes surrounding the 3,226m Aiguille Rouge to the winding runs through the magical Villaroger forests over 2,000m below, Les Arcs is a piste skier’s dream! The local area is jam packed with one of the biggest range of pistes you will find anywhere in the Alps. Add to that the option to hop on the double-decker Vanoise Express to La Plagne and you have a resort of truly mammoth proportions.

Les Deux Alpes Inside and outside the piste poles, Les Deux Alpes is constantly surprising skiers with its variety of quality terrain. Peaking at 3,600m, the high altitude resort offers corduroy carvers the ideal stage to perfect their technique. Piste lovers can attack wide open and snowsure glacial groomers down to forested runs 2,300m below, allowing for some truly leg burning descents. Riding the Jandri Express gondola from the centre of town, as the lift pops over the ridge, the glacier opens before your eyes, and the off piste possibilities of the resort become apparent. And the legendary La Grave is just a stones throw away. Sandwiched between Val Thorens and Courchevel, Méribel Mottaret sits in the heart of the biggest ski area in the world, Les Trois Vallées. Over 600km of pistes and countless backcountry zones keep all types of skier occupied for seasons on end. Mottaret sits at the top of the Méribel valley with a massive variety of on and off piste terrain. Staying in the area’s central valley allows for easy access to the entire area, and Méribel’s continued development of their lift system means that it’s never been quicker to reach every corner of the piste map. With so much terrain on offer, it’s no surprise that skiers return to Les Trois Vallées season after season. Mottaret itself is smaller and quieter than the main centre, and is just a short ski from the main Méribel meeting points. Most of the pistes converge at the foot of the Plattières gondola where you will find spots to enjoy a drink and share stories of the day, wherever on the mountain you have spent it.

Val Thorens At 2,300m, Val Thorens is not only the highest resort in the Les 3 Vallées, but also the highest ski station in Europe. Situated at the top of the Belleville valley, the town is snowsure and has an incredibly long season, with resort workers turning lifts from November through to May. Val Thorens snow record inspires confidence among improving skiers and will excite those looking to progress. The wide open bowl that the resort sits in is made up of some of the best high altitude terrain in Les Trois Vallées. The south-facing Orelle valley is also covered under the local lift pass, meaning that skiers can follow the sun around the mountain all day to find optimum snow conditions, on or off piste. Once you have kicked your ski boots off the breath-taking panorama provides ample evening inspiration. The Austrian concept of ‘Gemütlichkeit’ can be loosely translated as the feeling of comfort and cosiness; and this is at the heart of Austrian skiing. Advanced ski infrastructure, great value for money and a unique après ski scene means you’ll be treated to an unforgettable experience in any of our Austrian resorts.

Piztal is a fabulous off piste resort with huge potential and without many other off pistes skiers, the powder lasts. I'd certainly go again. Chris Williams Pitztal

Obergurgl Obergurgl is a fantastic ski area situated in the picturesque Ötz valley. It has a loyal following due to its reliable snowfall and enticing variety of slopes. The local terrain is great for intermediate to advanced skiers and links to neighbouring Hochgurgl allow access to a glacier reaching heights of 3,080m. The village itself is traditional, chaletstyle, and with little traffic. A far cry from busier resorts shouting for your attention, Obergurgl has a laid-back culture and family feel, with many hotels and restaurants being locally run. Heiligenblut New to the Freshtracks programme this winter, this trip is an opportunity to experience one of Austria’s best kept secrets. Little known to British skiers and with a name so hard to pronounce you'll think twice before saying it, the phrase ‘small resort, big terrain’ has never been more relevant. With the impressive backdrop of Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner, this beautiful Austrian village is the gateway to some epic freeride terrain. The ski area itself has 12 lifts and 55km of pistes plus a freeride arena comprising 1,500 hectares. Split into six freeride sectors the area offers multiple opportunities including four marked routes. On a powder day, this is where you'll spend most of your time. The resort is also the starting point of many high alpine ski tours to 3,000m summits. The area has a wild feel, and there is a good variety of terrain to challenge advanced and expert off piste skiers.

Bad Hofgastein Bad Hofgastein teams skiing with relaxation in a traditional village town with access to the expansive Gastein valley. The skiing is varied and linked to several different resorts with some brilliant terrain to explore. The village itself is located at the foot of the mountain and has a variety of modern hotels, including the Johannesbad Palace Hotel. The area is renowned for its spa culture, thanks to its famous thermal heated waters. We recommend you take full advantage and enjoy a swim, sauna and steam room visit whenever you can. The local people seem to have a ski hard and relax hard philosophy, which certainly suits visitors too.

This was my first Ski Club of GB holiday and I loved everything about it… Nicki Alvey Bad Hofgastein

The slopes reach from Lech into neighbouring Zürs, Warth and St Anton, to form Austria's largest ski area. Lech has something for everyone with pistes ranging from wide open blues to steep challenging blacks. There is a huge variety of slopes and terrain on offer, enabling you to explore different areas each day with your local instructors. St Anton For any ski resort, the accolade ‘one of Europe’s snowiest mountains’ is a blessing. But St Anton offers much more than snow. The resort sits on 350km of slopes and 200km of off piste itineraries, but it is also linked to Lech-Zürs and St Christoph, making it one of the largest ski areas. It has two famous après bars which compete for the attention of revellers, pumping out music next to the piste every afternoon. St Anton is also home to modern hotels, bars and restaurants. However, despite all this excitement, the resort is first and foremost an authentic Tyrolean town with a 17th-century church and top-notch intermediate to expert ski opportunities.

Pitztal Pitzal might be one of Austria's smaller and lesser-known resorts, but we believe it is a hidden treasure with untapped potential. The Pitztal valley is made up of several smaller resorts nestled below a magnificent glacier. It is known for quiet slopes and delivering great snow for day touring and off piste sections. The snow reliability, especially on the glacier, is unbeatable. The Pitztal region offers skiing from September through to May, making it one of the longest seasons in Europe. You'll find incredible views by taking the Wildspitzbahn lift which zips you up to the Hinterer Burnnenkogel to an eye-watering 3440m. From there you can enjoy a coffee at the café’s highaltitude sun terrace.

Italy’s ski areas are vast and varied ranging from the traditional Alpine areas in the west to the dramatic Dolomites further East. What they all have in common is a rich history and culture of warm hospitality and the culinary experience is as enjoyable as the skiing one.

Overall, an excellent holiday – great people, amazing scenery and some very good food, even on the mountain! Siobhan Shilton Folgarida

The Monterosa ski area is nestled in the heart of the Italian Alps and is made up of the three principal resorts of Alagna, Gressoney and Champoluc, all traditional and charming villages. Amongst serious powder hounds, the Monterosa Ski area is renowned for its extensive off-piste, however it is yet to make its way to the mainstream market. This means the slopes remain quiet during the week, with plenty of untracked powder runs to be found.

Skiing in Alagna you will find some great tree runs but as you rise above the tree line, the slopes open out to wide powder fields waiting to be explored. As the off piste in Alagna is a little bit of a local secret, the area is slightly trickier to navigate, making your local mountain guide's knowledge invaluable.

As a small village located in the Urseren Valley, Andermatt features a number of ski areas providing you with access to plenty of exhilarating terrain. Renowned for its impressive snow record, it’s no wonder Andermatt has been a favourite with our off piste Ski Club groups for many years. For the bravest among you, skiing the northfacing Gemsstock Mountain, which looms over the town, will satisfy your powder needs. After you have spent your days exploring the slopes, you can relax and unwind in the peaceful village.

Engelberg is a traditional Swiss village with a tremendous snow record and incredible off piste terrain. Spend the day with qualified mountain guides who will search out the best off piste routes for you to perfect your powder turns. If you are feeling adventurous, you could take the opportunity to ski Galtiberg, a local secret found near Mount Titlis which crosses glaciers, open powder fields and couloirs. Cruise past rock buttresses and frozen waterfalls before finishing in the valley some 2,000m lower. At the end of the day you will come home to a picturesque village with cobbled streets where you can wind down with your fellow skiers. After a few days in Engelberg, it will start to feel like a home from home.

Saas-Fee Known as the pearl of the Alps, Saas-Fee is a charming, traffic-free Swiss village that provides its visitors with high altitude skiing. Its high elevation guarantees snow and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Perfect for cruising around, Saas-Fee enjoys light, powdery snow on north-facing slopes and forgiving pistes that you can get to know over the course of your week before progressing to steeper aspects. The resort is a traditional mountain village of narrow streets lined with old chalets, it’s farming heritage clearly visible. Often compared with Zermatt, Saas-Fee offers a slower, more tranquil ambience than its bustling big brother. The tradition, charm and reliability of Saas-Fee are a handful of the reasons we have been sending Ski Club members there for over two decades.

Following a six year absence, we have decided to include Klosters in the Freshtracks calendar once more. This Swiss resort may conjure up images of royalty and celebrity, however there is much more to Davos' neighbour than first comes to mind. With access to the same extensive ski area, you will be able to explore the Parsenn, Jakobshorn and Madrisa, to name but a few. Much of its off piste terrain is hidden from the prying eyes of lift passengers, so you will be sure to find some untouched snow when venturing into the backcountry. However, with access to over 300km of piste, will you really need to? With a charming village, excellent snow and fantastic varied terrain, you may find yourself wanting to return to this traditional Swiss resort year on year.

Zermatt is a firm favourite with our Ski Club Members, which is no surprise considering it is widely regarded as one of the best ski resorts in Europe, if not the world. Thanks to its endless on and off piste terrain, phenomenal snow record, charming village and astounding scenery, Zermatt is a desirable destination for skiers of all abilities. The wide variety of runs that can be found across the mountain mean that you will be kept busy skiing all week, often without seeing the same run twice. For Freshtrackers who wish to explore a little further afield, Zermatt will provide you access to extensive off piste terrain, much of which is lift accessible. Spain conjures up images of sun and sea for many people, but perhaps we should start thinking of sun and ski, because the lesser-known Spanish Pyrenees are full of exciting off piste opportunities. The sophisticated resort of Baqueira Beret comes with a regal recommendation, as the Spanish royal family have been known to favour its slopes. The resort is situated on the Bonaigua Pass in the Val d’Aran, and has been treated to excellent snow cover in recent winters. With 152km of groomed runs and exciting off piste opportunities, strong skiers and off piste beginners will find plenty to enjoy and test. More exhilarating terrain can be found in steep couloirs such as Escornacrabes which loosely translates as ‘where goats tumble’. If you’d like to fill your holiday with challenging backcountry exploration, amazing tree runs and sample some après tapas bars then Baqueira is the perfect destination. We are also running a weekend trip so there’s no need to miss out on this fantastic resort.

Norway We couldn’t pass over the chance to visit a country where skiing is so ingrained on day-to-day life.

Narvik Northern Lights Narvik | Trollviken Lodge | Half board

To really ski like a Norwegian, don't forget your ‘matpakke’ or packed lunch and stay warm with a ‘solbaertoddy’, a local warm blackcurrant drink. Visiting three different resorts in different areas of the sprawling mountainous country, Freshtrackers can choose to experience different disciplines on their chosen trip. Piste lovers can test their skills in the Olympic resort of Lillehammer, whilst those after some more variety can head to Trysil. If you are a true escapist though, our Narvik trip is for you, where from your fisherman’s hut home you can tour straight from the door and experience some of Norway’s most impressive scenery.

Situated just 30 minutes from Narvik airport, you will be staying at the Trollviken Lodge; an old converted fish farm. Spend six days with your mountain guide, Bruce Goodlad, exploring the biggest vertical ski area in Scandinavia. Each day you can expect climbs of between 1000 & 3000m.

On piste and off, Norway’s ski pedigree is effervescent, just like the Northern lights which Freshtrackers often catch a glimpse of. Cross your fingers and hope for a front row seat to the greatest light show on earth!

This season, we have decided to run our ski tours slightly differently. Our beginner ski tours will stay in the Freshtracks programme but our more advanced tours and hut-to-hut trips will be moving across to Mountain Tracks, our sister company. Mountain Tracks are specialists in mountain adventure and passionate about offering unforgettable experiences. These trips would benefit from some previous ski touring experience and the ability to do uphill kick turns.

Best trip ever! Had to bring our A-game every day and got to ski all sorts of challenging terrain and conditions – worth every penny! Alastair Quarterman La Grave

ADDITIONAL EXPENSES (NOT INCLUDED IN THE ADVERTISED PRICE): • Lift-pass – we will advise you of the approximate amount required in local currency with your confirmation of booking. On a few holidays the lift-pass price is included in the brochure price and this is indicated in the holiday price details. • Local transport (buses or taxis). • Meals – unless otherwise indicated, holidays are offered on a room only/bed and breakfast/half board/chalet board basis. Please check the individual holiday price details or ask Ski Club Freshtracks for full details. • Drinks – not included except on occasion where the holiday price includes wine with dinner. • Equipment – if you need to hire equipment in the resort, take advantage of discounts available to Club members (see website). • Snowsports travel insurance. • Evening meal on resort staff’s one or two days off (chalets and chalet hotels only) each week. • Return travel between home and UK departure point. • Shuttle flights from regional airports to group departure point. •Visas for non EC passport holders, where applicable. •Optional excursions booked in resort. ACCOMMODATION Accommodation, either in hotels or chalets, is based on people sharing a room and is selected to suit each individual group. In some cases single rooms are available on request, subject to a supplement. Rooms vary in size and comfort and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Occasionally a superior grade room will be available at a small additional cost. In Austria and Switzerland it is usual for hotels to offer “Austrian twins”, which are two separate mattresses within one double bed frame with individual duvets. Please see the individual hotel description for details or call Ski Club Freshtracks. Due to the large variety of accommodation offered in

Please read this information and our booking conditions carefully before you book your holiday. All bookings are made subject to our booking conditions and the information contained below. Please see the website for further detailed information for each holiday. the Ski Club Freshtracks programme, it has not been possible to visit all hotels/chalets prior to contracting and we should point out that all brochured accommodation and services are in accordance with the hotel/chalet’s own literature. We will do our best to help individuals find a room sharer if we are asked to do so, but if, when rooming lists are finalised, there is an imbalance in numbers so that a sole occupancy supplement is incurred, this cost will be passed onto you. Please note that where individuals have been allocated or have specifically asked to share a room with another/other member(s), and one or more of the individuals in the allocated room cancels their holiday, we reserve the right to resell the cancelled place should we have the demand and you may therefore end up sharing a room with another individual. Safaris and touring accommodation: male and female members of the group may be asked to share the same room. SPECIAL REQUESTS/NEEDS If you have any special requests, they should be clearly stated in writing at the time of booking. We will endeavour to pass all such reasonable requests on to the relevant supplier. However, we cannot guarantee that special requests will be met unless the supplier confirms in writing to us that they will be met. Only in these circumstances will this then become a term of our contract with you. Otherwise, failure to provide a special request will not be a breach of contract on our part. It is the individual’s responsibility to reconfirm these requests to the supplier on arrival. FLIGHTS In accordance with EU Regulation 2111/2005 and under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 (the “PTR”) we are required to advise you of the actual Carrier operating your flight. Most of our flights are scheduled services (predominantly Swiss International, British Airways). However, on a number of our holidays, the flights are charter and this is indicated on the website. Please note when booking flights we must have your passport title, first name and surname correctly spelt. Subsequent changes will incur a charge, and please note that airlines normally regard name changes as a cancellation and re-booking, and therefore any alteration may incur a 100% cancellation charge. Flight details and times are not all finalised at the time of printing and are subject to confirmation. We reserve the right to change the airline or routing where absolutely necessary. Any changes after you have received your final information will be notified to you as soon as possible and in all cases at check-in or at the boarding gate. Such a change is deemed to be a minor change and we cannot be held responsible for any costs associated with a change in connecting or onward travel resulting in a change to air schedules. Please note, that in accordance with Air Navigation Orders, a child must be under two years of age on the date of the return flight in order to qualify for infant status. Some of our holidays don't include flights in the holiday price so that you can take advantage of the flexibility and/or pricing of other airlines,

and arrange your own flight to the destination airport. MISSED DEPARTURE In the event that you miss your outbound flight, you must notify the airline and the Freshtracks office immediately (if necessary via the out of hours contact number provided) if you intend to travel and take the inbound flight. Failure to do so may result in your inbound flight reservation being cancelled. We cannot be held responsible for any additional costs as a result of missing a flight. You should consider making a claim under your insurance policy. If you choose to book flights in order to connect with any of the flights included in our package, please be aware that we cannot be held responsible for missed departure as a result of delay or missed departure to either the flight we have booked for you or any flights you have booked. REGIONAL AIRPORTS Where possible we always try to meet your requests for regional departures. Please ask us about regional flights at the time of booking. Usually there is a supplement payable depending upon departure date and flight, and all flights are subject to availability. BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE/SKI CARRIAGE Please note that the baggage allowance is usually one bag of up to 20kgs (44lbs) including skis and boots. The airlines are becoming very strict and if over this limit, a charge may be made for the excess weight. Ski carriage is payable on most flights. Charges are usually between £15 and £70 per bag each way. Please check at the time of booking. Availability of ski carriage is often limited and strictly on request with some airlines, so must be confirmed by us at the time of booking. TRANSFERS Transfers from airports to resorts will be by coach, taxi or rail and are arranged to minimise delays. Please note if your personal travel arrangements are outside those of the group, the resort transfer is not included in the holiday price, unless specified. If you are making your own way to the destination airport but still require the group transfer, we do need this request in writing at the time of booking. On some holidays we arrange a coach transfer to the resort which will leave the destination airport at a fixed time. We will provide you with details of the time the coach transfer will leave the destination airport. The coach transfer forms part of your holiday price. If for any reason, including delays to your flight, you miss the group transfer we will not provide a further transfer for you and you will have to arrange your own transfer to the resort at your own cost. TRAVELLING INDEPENDENTLY We do not insist that you buy a group flight as part of your package with us. If you wish to make your own travel arrangements to the resort, we will give you an

appropriate reduction of £50-£100 per person. You must indicate that you do not wish to take our travel arrangements at the time of booking otherwise you will incur an administration charge. Please note: travel costs are not included in the holidays in the Touring section, but can be arranged by us on request. SKIING WITH OTHERS Please remember that you are taking part in a group holiday and whilst we make every effort to ensure that the group is of a similar standard of experience, you may ski in a group with different levels of competence, experience or priorities. Our Leaders, Guides or Instructors will, where possible take into account the needs and requests of the group, however it is not always possible to accommodate the specific wishes of each member. It is expected that members will understand and respect the wishes of the group. Day touring is increasingly becoming popular and is generally accepted as part of the experience of skiing off piste. On some off piste holidays, it may be the case that the guide or instructor recommend that skinning is required to find the best possible conditions. If you decide not to stay with the group, then we will be unable to offer any refunds. SMOKING While the Ski Club does not operate a no-smoking policy for the holiday programme, it is expected that members will respect the wishes of the group as a whole. Smokers should conform with each individual establishment’s rules and must refrain from smoking in shared bedrooms and at meal times. PASSPORTS AND VISAS It is your responsibility to be in possession of a valid passport and any visa which may be necessary. In the absence of valid documentation, you will not be allowed to travel and we shall have no liability to make any refunds or pay any compensation. Please note that the name on the passport must match the name on the ticket, otherwise you may not be able to travel and insurance may be invalid. All British citizens, including infants and children, will require a 10-year passport which is valid for at least six months after the date of return. For more information on the passport applications and the length of time the application process takes, please visit:gov.uk/browse/abroad/passports If you are travelling to a non-EU destination, you should check with the Consulate to find out whether you need a visa or whether there are any other additional immigration requirements. If you do not hold a British passport, please check with your own Embassy or Consulate in the UK to confirm the passport and visa requirements of the country that you are planning to visit. FOREIGN OFFICE TRAVEL ADVICE The Foreign & Commonwealth Office issues advice for those travelling outside the UK. You can access this advice

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS Please contact your GP in good time before you travel to check whether there are any health precautions which you need to take. You can also obtain information from the Department of Health leaflet T7. AGE The majority of holidays in this brochure are designed for adults aged between 18 and 65 years. There is an extensive programme of Peak Experience holidays which are open to anyone aged 55 years and over. Members aged over 65 years will be required to join the trips in this category. Additionally some specific holidays e.g. Family, Christmas and New Year (except Off-Piste Skiing) groups are open to all ages. If members aged over 65 years of exceptional skiing standard/fitness/stamina cannot find an appropriate standard holiday on a date to suit them in the ‘Peak Experience’ programme, the following are the circumstances where their booking may be accepted on a holiday outside the ‘Peak Experience’ programme: • You are at the upper end of the grading for that holiday • You have received this grading on a Ski Club Freshtracks holiday during the previous/current season • The Leader/mountain guide can confirm that your standard, fitness and stamina all appear to be suitable for the chosen holiday • You have not sustained any injury or undergone any surgery or other period of ill health since receiving this grading that may affect your standard/fitness/stamina. If members cannot find what they are looking for in the brochure, we offer our Tailor-made service. For groups of four or more, we can organise a Club Leader, instructor or a mountain guide, together with travel and accommodation to meet members’ needs. UNDER 18s The Club would like to point out that parents and guardians of these youngsters must ensure that it is safe and appropriate for them to holiday in these circumstances and that they will not pose a risk to their own safety, or that of others. We must urge parents to let the Club know anything relevant about their children that will help towards the successful and happy running of the holiday. Parents or guardians will be asked to sign a consent form prior to departure. SIZE MATTERS! We cost our holidays on a variable ratio of Leaders/ instructors/guides to members. On occasions when our bookings are greater than anticipated, we will send additional Leaders/instructors/guides. However, when we

have less demand for a trip we may reduce the number of Leaders/instructors/guides or the number of days instruction/guiding included. Leaders/instructors/ guides may change depending on group sizes and availability SKI PROFILES While every effort is made to ensure that skiing abilities are compatible, the final decision will rest with the Leaders/instructors/mountain guides. There may be occasions when you have to free ski or attend the local ski school to ensure the success of the holiday. We will not be responsible for any such additional costs. At the end of each holiday every member will be issued with a ‘next holiday card’. A Ski Club ski profile for each member on the holiday will be recorded on the Ski Club of Great Britain membership database. FITNESS Skiing is a demanding sport and so it is essential to take into consideration fitness levels when making decisions about your ski grading. Fitness is a key part of skiing ability and so it is important when choosing a holiday to ask yourself how far you can, and are prepared, to push yourself. Whether you are comfortable cruising the reds all day with a long lunch stop or are looking for more of a physical challenge with turn after turn in deep powder, a good level of physical fitness is required in order to make sure you get the maximum out of your holiday and avoid unnecessary injuries. It is recommended that you participate in at least 40 minutes of aerobic exercise three times a week for a minimum of three months in the run up to a skiing holiday. Please be aware that Leaders are entitled to lower members' ski grading, and in exceptional circumstances they can ask members to leave the ski group if they feel their fitness hinders performance and delays other members of the party or they are a danger to themselves or to the group. No compensation will be payable in such circumstances. Our Exploration, Safaris and Tours have a maximum climb for each holiday. These climbs are an indication of the maximum amount of skinning on a typical day for a member who has a good level of fitness. In a mountain environment, with a group of members, there are many factors that may affect the length of climb including weather, conditions and fitness of individuals in the group. The maximum climb indicated may be exceeded and either be unplanned or planned in order for the guides/instructors to have the best chance of finding find the best conditions available. No compensation will be payable for any day where the climb is longer than anticipated. HIGH ALTITUDE ACCLIMATISATION Some ski resorts are situated at such a high elevation that the humidity and limited oxygen available can cause a variety of symptoms and illnesses. Please read the information below carefully. It will help to explain how to cope with the acclimatisation process and how to deal with altitude sickness should you suffer from it.

Symptoms: Shortness of breath, fast heartbeat, dehydration, constipation, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, headache. What to do: Take it easy for the first couple of days, eat lightly and drink plenty of liquids (two or three times more water than usual), avoid alcohol and caffeine, get plenty of sleep, limit salt and increase carbohydrate consumption. Most importantly listen to your body – if you feel unwell DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT A DOCTOR. For most people the minor symptoms of altitude will disappear as your body adjusts. Please remember the use of hot tubs and saunas will accelerate the dehydration process. Please be aware that the sun is MUCH stronger at higher altitudes. Be sure to apply a high factor sun screen to your face, neck and ears at least every four hours, even on a cloudy day. TIPPING Our brochure prices include all local staying duties and room taxes, but, whilst discretionary, it is typical to leave a tip when paying for drinks and food abroad. With mountain guides and instructors it is usual for the group to buy lunch and offer a tip at the end of the holiday. Most service staff in America and Canada anticipate between 15-20% gratuity, depending on the level of service; this includes bar staff and drivers. It is customary on departure to leave a gratuity in your room for housekeeping staff – a guideline is $5 per day. ATOL PROTECTION We hold an Air Travel Organisers Licence issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (ATOL No. 2911) Many of the flights and flight-inclusive holidays in this brochure are financially protected by the ATOL scheme. But ATOL protection does not apply to all holiday and travel services listed in this brochure. Please ask us to confirm what protection may apply to your booking. If you do not receive an ATOL Certificate then the booking will not be ATOL protected. If you do receive an ATOL Certificate but all the parts of your trip are not listed on it, those parts will not be ATOL protected. Please see our booking conditions for information, or for more information about financial protection and the ATOL Certificate go to: www. atol.org.uk/ATOLCertificate" Your Financial Protection When you buy an ATOL protected flight or flight inclusive holiday from us you will receive an ATOL Certificate. This lists what is financially protected, where you can get information on what this means for you and who to contact if things go wrong. We, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL Certificate, will provide you with the services listed on the ATOL Certificate (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where neither we nor the supplier are able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative ATOL holder may provide you with the services

you have bought or a suitable alternative (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances the alternative ATOL holder will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any money outstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL holder. However, you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint an alternative ATOL holder, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under the ATOL scheme (or your credit card issuer where applicable). If we, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL certificate, are unable to provide the services listed (or a suitable alternative, through an alternative ATOL holder or otherwise) for reasons of insolvency, the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust may make a payment to (or confer a benefit on) you under the ATOL scheme. You agree that in return for such a payment or benefit you assign absolutely to those Trustees any claims which you have or may have arising out of or relating to the non-provision of the services, including any claim against us, the travel agent (or your credit card issuer where applicable). You also agree that any such claims may be re-assigned to another body, if that other body has paid sums you have claimed under the ATOL scheme. We will do our best to make the change but cannot guarantee to do so. Where a change can be made, a minimum charge of £25 per person is payable to cover administrative and other costs we incur in making the alternative arrangements. These further costs could increase closer to the departure date that changes are made. You will also be required to pay any additional costs arising from any alterations. Any transfer of a scheduled flight will also be subject to any charges imposed by the airline. Please note that airlines may not allow transfers on scheduled flights and that a flight booking may have to be cancelled and rebooked, in which event the rebooking will always be subject to flight availability and to payment of any charges imposed by the airline which may, in some cases, be the full cost of the ticket. Please also note that airlines and other transport providers normally regard name changes as a cancellation and re-booking, and any alteration may incur a 100% cancellation charge in respect of their fare. (b) You may transfer your package travel holiday to another person who satisfies all of the conditions applicable to that package. In order to do so, you must give us notice in writing of your intention at least 7 days before the day the package is due to start. We will inform you of any additional fees, charges or other costs in relation to the transfer, all which must be reasonable and which will not exceed those actually incurred, and we will provide proof of those costs, if necessary. You and the person you are transferring the holiday to will both be liable to pay these transfer costs. (c) You or any member of your party may cancel your holiday arrangements at any time. However, if the holiday is cancelled up to 10 weeks before the departure date the deposits paid by you will be forfeited. Since we incur costs in cancelling your arrangements the following cancellation charges will also be payable if the holiday is cancelled by you for whatever reason after the balance due date. Notice of cancellation before departure:

Cancellation charges due on heli-skiing holidays are according to each helicopter skiing operator’s booking conditions. These will be made known to you before you book. (g) Course Only Bookings. These bookings must be paid for in full at the time of booking. All cancellations must be received in writing, signed by the person who made the booking and acknowledged by us. Since we incur costs in cancelling your arrangements, all cancellations are subject to a £100 non-refundable fee. The following cancellation charges will be payable if the arrangements are cancelled by you for whatever reason. Notice of cancellation before departure: Proportion of holiday cost payable 70-31 days 50% 30-0 days 100% PRICES 10. (i) We reserve the right to alter the prices and any other information relevant to any of the holidays shown in our brochure or on our website. You will be advised of the current price of the holiday that you wish to book before your contract is confirmed. (ii) We may amend the price of your holiday after the contract is agreed, but only due to changes in transportation costs such as fuel or other power sources or changes in VAT or other government imposed charges and currency changes in relation to an exchange rate variation. You also have the right to a price reduction if any of these costs decrease before the start of the holiday, minus any attributable administration fees. We will notify you in writing of any change in price at least 20 days before the start of the package, along with a calculation and justification for any change. (iii)In the case of any increase equivalent to 2% of the price of your holiday arrangements (excluding insurance premiums and any amendment charges), this will be absorbed or retained. For larger variations this 2% will still be absorbed for increases but you will be required to pay any amount over and above that. In the latter case there will be an administration charge of £1 per person together with an amount to cover agents’ commission. (iv) However, if this increase is more than 8% of the total price of your holiday arrangements, we will inform you in writing and give you reasonable time to accept the

change, if you do not respond we will send you a second notification. If after this second notification you still do not respond, we will terminate the contract and refund all payments within 14 days. Upon receiving notice of the increase, you may cancel your holiday arrangements and receive a full refund of all monies paid with no termination fees (and any applicable compensation for lack of conformity). If you wish to terminate the contract, we may also offer you a substitute package in place of the original package, and if this is of a lower cost we will provide an appropriate price deduction. If you do not wish to accept the substitute package, we will give you a full refund within 14 days of termination. Please note that holiday arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the price of your travel due to contractual and other protection in place. (iii) The prices of holidays in this brochure are calculated on the basis of costs known at June 2018. SINGLE SUPPLEMENTS 11. The majority of our holidays are priced and sold on a shared room basis and we will do our best to help individuals find a room sharer but this is not always possible. If, when rooming lists are finalised, there is an imbalance in numbers so that a sole occupancy supplement is incurred, this cost will be passed onto you. Please note that where individuals have been allocated or have specifically asked to share a room with another/ other member(s), and one or more of the individuals in the allocated room cancels their holiday, we reserve the right to resell the cancelled place should we have the demand and you may therefore end up sharing a room with another individual. CHANGES AND CANCELLATION BY US 12. (i) We reserve the right to change the terms of the package holiday before the start of the package.. We will only make such changes if they are insignificant and if we inform you in writing. (ii) if circumstances beyond our control affect any of the main characteristics of the package or we can no longer fulfil the agreed special requirements, we will inform you of the fact in writing and give you a reasonable time to accept the change, if you do not respond we will send you a second notification. If after this second notification you still do not respond, we will terminate the contract and refund all payments within 14 days. Upon receiving notice of the increase, you may accept the change or cancel your holiday arrangements and receive a full refund of all monies paid with no termination fees (and any applicable compensation for lack of conformity). If you wish to terminate the contract, we may also offer you a substitute package in place of the original package, and if this is of a lower cost we will provide an appropriate price deduction. If you do not wish to accept the substitute package, we will give you a full refund within 14 days of termination. “Force majeure” means unusual or unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control or the control of our suppliers, the consequences of which neither we nor our suppliers could avoid even with all due care, including, but not limited to, epidemic or outbreaks of illness, war, threat of war, riot, civil strife, industrial dispute, terrorist activity or threat of it, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, flood, drought, technical problems with transport, machinery or equipment, power failure, changes imposed by rescheduling or cancellation of flights by an airline,

HOLIDAY INSURANCE 13. Our insurance policy is optional but it is a condition of booking that all clients have insurance which provides at least the same level of cover as that of the Ski Club Travel Insurance policy as detailed on skiclubinsurance. co.uk. It is your responsibility to comply with the insurance company’s requirements and if you suffer from a disability or medical condition, you should disclose this to insurers. Your policy of insurance should provide cover for personal injury, death, medical and repatriation costs in the countries which you intend to visit, together with cover for loss of baggage and valuables, personal liability, delay, cancellation, curtailment, missed departure and legal expenses. We also advise that your policy should include skiing off-piste without a guide. Insurance premiums must be paid at the same time as booking the holiday in order for cancellation cover to be effective. Please read the full policy wording carefully. Cancellation cover commences on payment of your premium; other sections of the cover apply during your holiday including the outward and return journeys. Please keep insurance details with you whilst on holiday. OUR LIABILITY 14. We, as the organiser of your holiday, are responsible for the proper performance of all the travel services included within your holiday package. We do not own or manage the aircraft, ships, accommodation, restaurants and other facilities used in conjunction with the holidays advertised in this brochure. We also arrange for other tour operators to run some holidays on our behalf. While we have exercised reasonable care in selecting tour operators, providers of travel, accommodation, restaurants and other facilities, we will not have had the opportunity to inspect and do not by this brochure or by our website represent that we have inspected such aircraft, ships, accommodation, restaurants or other facilities. . However, we accept responsibility for our employees, agents, suppliers and sub-contractors while acting within the course of their contractual duties and because of our obligations to you: (iii) If any of the travel services are not performed in accordance with these Booking Conditions, we will, within a reasonable time set by you, remedy the lack of conformity unless remedy is impossible or it entails disproportionate cost to us. You may also remedy the lack of conformity and are entitled to a reimbursement of the necessary expenses. (iv) If we are unable to remedy the lack of conformity within a reasonable time set by you due to impossibility or disproportionate cost, we will offer you an appropriate price reduction and compensation for any damage incurred as a result for any period where there is a lack of conformity (unless we believe the lack of conformity is

negligence.

(v) We are not obliged to offer compensation for damages if we can prove that the lack of conformity is attributable to you, or to a third party unconnected with the travel services where unforeseeable or unavoidable or due to unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances.

16. We can accept no liability for: (i) failure to deliver special requests, where these have not been confirmed in writing to you; (ii) extra costs as a result of you missing a flight; or (iii) refusal of travel due to a missing or invalid passport or visa. For more information on passport and visa requirements, please see the Holiday Information documents.

(vi) If we are unable to provide a significant proportion of the agreed travel services as agreed we will offer you, at no extra cost, suitable alternative arrangements of, where possible, equivalent or higher quality than those specified in the contract. (vii) If a lack of conformity substantially affects the performance of the package and we are unable to remedy the lack of conformity within the reasonable period, you may terminate the contract without paying a termination fee and you may be entitled to a price reduction, or compensation for damages. (viii) If (vi) and (vii) above apply, and the travel services include carriage of passengers, we will also provide repatriation at no cost to you with equivalent transport without undue delay. (viiii) If we are unable to ensure your return as agreed due to unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances, we will bear the cost of necessary accommodation for a period not exceeding 3 nights per traveller or for the period specified under the Union passenger rights legislation applicable to the relevant means of transport. This limitation does not apply to disabled, pregnant or unaccompanied minors as long as you let us know of their needs at least 48 hours before your holiday. 15. Our liability (except in matters involving injury, illness or death) is limited to three times the total price of the package cost of the holiday (excluding insurance premium and amendment charges). If you or any member of your party is killed, injured or becomes ill as a result of transport by aircraft, ship, train, coach or any other vehicle, our liability to pay compensation and/or the amount of compensation we will pay is limited in accordance with the Montreal and Warsaw Conventions (applies to transport by air), the Athens Convention (applies to transport by ship), the Berne Convention (applies to transport by rail) and the Geneva Convention (applies to transport by road). The terms of these conventions are incorporated into and form part of your contract with us. You can get copies of the relevant conventions on request. You should note that these conventions may limit or remove the carrier’s liability to you and the amount which the carrier has to pay to you. Where the services are provided by air or sea carriers our liability is limited as if we were the carriers within the appropriate international conventions. Should any payment be made to you or any member of your party by us in any of the circumstances referred to under clauses 14 , we reserve the right to have you assign to us any rights or claims against the person or organisation responsible for causing the illness, injury or death. You must also assist us and our insurers in pursuing any such claim. All claims must be notified immediately to us and confirmed in writing within 50 days. Any amounts recovered in excess of the payments made by us to you will be passed on to you after deduction of our costs. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability in the event of death or injury that occurs as a result of our

PROBLEMS NOT CONNECTED TO OUR HOLIDAY PACKAGE 17. Should any member of your party suffer illness, injury or death through misadventure arising out of an activity which does not form part of the holiday package we have arranged for you, we cannot accept liability. We are obliged to provide assistance to you should you be in difficulty. This is another area where it is important to have adequate holiday insurance cover. We may provide you with information on our website, in our brochure or when you are on holiday about activities and excursions which are available in the area you are visiting but which you cannot book with us in the UK and which are not part of your holiday arrangements. We have no involvement in any such activities or excursions which are neither run, supervised or controlled by us. They are provided by local operators or other third parties and we cannot accept any liability in relation to such activities or excursions. TRANSPORTATION 18. As set out in clause 14 above, transportation on aircraft, coaches, trains or ships is subject to the conditions of carriage of the carrier, some of which may limit or exclude liability. These conditions are often the subject of international agreement between countries and copies of the conditions which apply to your holiday journey and will normally be found on the carrier’s tickets. They are available prior to that time from our office. Under EU Regulation 261/2004 you have rights in some circumstances to refunds and/or compensation from your airline in cases of denied boarding, cancellation or delay to flights. Full details of these rights will be publicised at EU airports and will also be available from airlines. However, reimbursement in such cases is the responsibility of the airline and will not automatically entitle you to a refund of your holiday cost from us. LUGGAGE, SKIS AND EQUIPMENT 19. All luggage, skis, snowboards, boots, equipment and other personal effects shall be at all times and in all circumstances the owner’s own responsibility and taken on holiday at the owner’s risk. We cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage or delay to your luggage and effects unless directly caused by the negligence of one of our employees. In the event that damage is caused to baggage while in transit with airlines, or at airports this must be reported immediately to the airline or their representatives and a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) form completed by the airline or their representative. This must be completed before leaving the airport. It will not be possible to make a claim against an airline if the damage is discovered after leaving the airport and we cannot accept any responsibility for any loss or damage or delay to luggage. COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE 20. (i) We hope you will not experience any problems with your holiday. If you do, however, you must take it

up with your senior Club Leader/representative without undue delay so that we can attempt to solve it at once. If the problem cannot be resolved in a short time your Leader will complete a complaint form, which you will be asked to sign to ensure that it sets out your full complaint properly and which we undertake to investigate as soon as possible and report back to you. If you are unhappy with the outcome of our investigation you must put this in writing to us within 28 days of the end of your holiday. (ii) Your failure to comply with this complaints procedure may deprive us of the opportunity to investigate and rectify your complaint whilst on holiday and may affect your rights under this contract. 21. You can also refer your complaint to an alternative dispute resolution entity who can help resolve consumer disputes and whose decisions are binding on us. For more details, please contact us using the details in clause 38. GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION 22. These terms are governed by English law. Any claim or dispute arising out of these terms (including noncontractual disputes or claims) is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts. FOR YOUR PROTECTION 23. We provide full financial protection for our package holidays. For flight based holidays this is through our Air Travel Organiser’s Licence No. 2911. In the unlikely event of our insolvency, the CAA will ensure that you are not stranded abroad and will arrange to refund any money you have paid to us for an advance booking. For further information, visit the ATOL website at www.atol.org. uk . When you buy a package holiday which does not include a flight, protection is provided by a bond held by the Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust Ltd, Membership No. 5064. We will provide you with the services you have bought (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where we are not able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative ATOL holder may provide you with the service you have bought or a suitable alternative (at no extra cost to you). DATA PROTECTION 24. Information about you and members of your party, including your names, contact details and any special needs, disabilities or dietary requirements is collected by us when you request information or make a booking with us. You are responsible for ensuring that other members of your party are aware of our booking conditions and privacy policy and that they consent to your acting on their behalf in your dealings with us. We may disclose this information to our service providers (who may be located outside the UK /EEA) for the purpose of providing you with your travel and holiday arrangements. Only information necessary for this purpose will be disclosed to them. In the case of air travel, it may be mandatory for us to disclose information for security and antiterrorism purposes or other purposes imposed on us by governments or airlines. 25. We may use your information for the purposes set out in our data protection registration at the Information Commissioner’s Office. We may disclose your information

For full Privacy Policy terms please visit https://www. skiclub.co.uk/privacy-policy . ACCURACY OF BROCHURE 27. This brochure was planned and produced in June 2018. Care has been taken in the planning and production of this brochure so that you may obtain an accurate picture of the holiday of your choice and all information published in this brochure has been compiled from up-to-date details. Nevertheless, there may be times when an advertised facility is either modified or not available due to, for example, adverse weather conditions or poor volume of support or other factors beyond our control. We therefore reserve the right to alter or vary the content of the brochure or our website at any time. YOUR RESPONSIBILITY 28. By booking a holiday with us you undertake to deport yourself in a safe and orderly fashion and not to disrupt the enjoyment of others on holiday with you nor to prejudice the reputation of the Ski Club of Great Britain with the owners of the accommodation or the suppliers involved in the agreement. Most people go on holiday for rest and relaxation, so if in our reasonable opinion or that of any airline pilot, hotel manager, tour leader, or other person in authority, your behaviour is causing danger, damage to property or persistently affecting the enjoyment of others, we reserve the right to terminate your holiday. Should this happen, we shall not be under any obligation whatsoever to pay compensation or meet any costs or expenses (including but not limited to alternative accommodation and return transportation arrangements) you may incur as a result of your travel arrangements being terminated. Also, we will be entitled to recover compensation for any damage caused from the offending party and/or the person who signed the booking form in the event a resulting claim is made against us by a third party. If the Captain of your flight reasonably believes that you could be a danger or disruptive, he can refuse to let you on the flight. If this means that you are not allowed to board the flight, we will treat your booking as cancelled from that moment, and you will have to pay full cancellation charges. We will not be liable to pay you any compensation. We cannot accept liability for the behaviour of others in your accommodation or on your flight, nor if any facilities are removed as a result of their actions. REFUNDS 29. We regret that no refund will be made by us on unused coach travel, unused air tickets or on unused sections of other types of ticket, whether travel or otherwise, unless a refund can be obtained by us from the carrier or provider. AGE 30. The majority of holidays in this brochure are designed for adults aged between 18 and 65 years. There is an extensive programme of Peak Experience holidays which are open to anyone aged 55 years and over. Members aged over 65 years are encouraged to join the trips in this category. Additionally some specific holidays e.g. Family,

Christmas and New Year (except Off Piste Zone) groups are open to all ages. OUR HOLIDAY LEADERS 31. The day-to-day organisation of the holiday in the resort is undertaken by the volunteer Ski Club Holiday Leaders and they have been asked to make sure the arrangements made are the best, in their opinion, for the group as a whole. This may mean that one skiing group will be encouraged to free ski while others are being led. Programmes compiled by Ski Club Holiday Leaders are subject to alteration and depend on weather and snow conditions which can change rapidly. The service may alter to conform to changes in local regulations over which we have no control. 32. Any Member wishing to ski/snowboard with a Ski Club Leader agrees to do so under the following conditions: (a)You appreciate that the Ski Club Leader is an untrained volunteer with no formal qualifications as an instructor or mountain guide. (b)You also appreciate that the Ski Club Leader undertakes no obligations to you concerning your safety for which you remain solely responsible. (c)You must ensure that your equipment is in good working order before setting off for the day and that you are suitably clothed for the proposed itinerary and all possible weather conditions. You must decide whether or not a particular run or route is within your competence. (d)It is your sole responsibility to ensure that you are suitably insured for the activities intended to be undertaken Ski Club Leaders are not professional mountain guides, nor ski instructors. They are Club members who have attended a training course with us and who volunteer their services. If you wish to ski with a Ski Club Leader you do so in full knowledge that the Leader will not conduct a professional assessment of your skiing ability. You are responsible for your own safety, and you must be aware of the safety of other group members. Skiing is an inherently risky sport and you must be physically fit and have sufficient skill and experience to enable you to participate without risk to yourself or the safety of others. If you are unable to effect linked snowplough turns competently or if your level of fitness and/or ability does not appear to conform to that of the rest of the group, you will be asked to join the local ski school at your own expense or will be asked to make your own skiing arrangements 33. No refunds or compensation will be paid in these circumstances. At the end of each holiday every member will be issued with a ski grading which will be recorded on the Ski Club membership database. SAFETY 34. Skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports can be dangerous. When skiing off piste or ski touring there may be an element of increased risk. You must be competent and fit enough to undertake these sports and you must take all reasonable precautions for your own safety and the safety of any children for whom you are responsible. You must ensure that your equipment is in good working order and that you are suitably clothed for a day’s skiing or snowboarding. Children should wear proper helmets at all times when they are participating in winter sports. When venturing off piste it is advisable to wear an avalanche transceiver. These are provided for

and should be worn by every person on every holiday of intermediate standard and above. Anyone joining a holiday in the Off Piste and Touring sections will be required to take their own additional equipment. Unless you are accompanied by a professional mountain guide or ski instructor, you must use your own judgement when deciding which route to follow. When you are skiing under the guidance of a professional mountain guide or ski instructor organised through the Ski Club you should follow their reasonable instructions. In the event that you feel that any route is beyond your capability to ski safely, you must inform the Ski Club Leader, mountain guide or ski instructor immediately. You must accept that Ski Club Leaders, mountain guides and ski instructors have the right to prevent you from participating in any programme organised by the Ski Club if, in their reasonable opinion, you cannot participate safely because your standard of skiing or fitness is inadequate, or your conduct may present a danger to others. Neither the Ski Club of Great Britain nor Ski Club Winter Arrangements Limited has any liability to you in these circumstances. Safety standards in many foreign countries may be lower than those taken for granted at home. While hotels and facilities should meet local safety regulations these rarely match UK standards which are amongst the highest in the world. We do not inspect the safety of ski lifts, ski runs and so on. These are operated locally and do not form part of your package with us. SNOW AND WEATHER CONDITIONS 35. We cannot accept responsibility for the snow or weather conditions experienced during your holiday with the Ski Club of Great Britain. Where we have used the word ‘powder’ in the description of your holiday, we will endeavour to find the best available snow, but if conditions are such that no powder is available (for weather or safety reasons) we accept no responsibility. Nor do we offer a snow guarantee, but we have specially chosen resorts with good snow records. DATES OF VALIDITY OF BROCHURE 36. This brochure is valid between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019 CASH DECLARATION 37. Please note that, as part of the fight against terrorism, international crime and money laundering, EU Regulation (EC) No 1889/2005 requires all passengers entering or leaving the European Union through its external control points with €10,000 or more in cash (or its equivalent in other currencies or easily convertible assets – e.g. bonds, shares, traveller’s cheques etc.) to declare the sum to the customs authorities of the Member State which he/she is entering or leaving.
