Skidmore prepares you for anything, so you can pursue your own thing. Here you’re taught how to jump into a world of rapid change and chase down the career you want. Tomorrow’s jobs demand people who can think differently. People who can connect disparate ideas and cultures. People who are ready to seize opportunities and solve problems that aren’t yet apparent.

We wholeheartedly believe that the preparation provided by a liberal arts education is one that will provide our graduates with the creativity and adaptability to succeed in a complicated and evolving economic environment.

We also expect that when potential employers or grad and professional school deans see Skidmore College on a résumé, they will think, ‘This is someone who will truly elevate our organization.’” —P HILIP A. Put creative thought to work. Creative thought is more than a philosophy. It’s a practice. And when you put it in place, you’re better prepared for a meaningful career. Take a look at how a few Skidmore alumni apply creative thought in their everyday lives.

ARWA DAMON ’99 is CNN’s Istanbul-based senior international correspondent, well-known for her battlefield and humanitarian reports from the frontlines in Iraq. Damon has received TV and news Emmys, Peabodys, the Investigative Reporters and Editors award and the International Women’s Media Foundation “Courage in Journalism” award. The Skidmore French and international relations major has this wisdom to offer: “Never take ‛no’ for an answer. Doors will close in your face, but look for the unconventional route. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes; learn from them and move on. Languages made my career. If I did not speak Arabic, I would not have gotten as far as I did or as quickly.”

WILLIAM CALEO ’99 AND FITZHUGH KAROL ’04 joined creative forces to found the Brooklyn Home Company, a real estate development firm with its own architectural, construction and design services. In quintessential Skidmore fashion, they bring together their backgrounds in business, ceramics and management to do what they love: renovating vintage townhouses. They embrace individualism, artistic integrity, customer focus and environmental conservation as part of their business philosophy—and they integrate these qualities into each house they restore.

ZAZIE BEETZ ’13 is a prolific actress on stage and screen, starring in Atlanta and the Netflix series Easy, and plays comic book character Domino in Deadpool II. As an international student from Germany, Zazie explored acting and photography at Skidmore and says she continues to use those lessons-learned. “With Skidmore’s education, I was able to honor another huge part of myself,” she explains. “I suppose that’s the beauty of a liberal arts school.”
