Our staff will be waiting for you at the airport to guide or join you onto your selected transfer. We are the only English speaking tour operator in Hokkaido with a staffed service and tour desk at Chitose Airport. Located in the arrivals lobby of the International Terminal, SkiJapan.com’s dedicated bilingual speaking airport representatives will meet you on arrival and are able to assist you with your enquiries 7 days a week (Dec–Mar).

SkiJapan.com can organise door to door transfers to make your trip smooth and hassle free. Niseko Base Snowsports (NBS) is Niseko’s premier allin-one Ski & Snowboard School, Kids Club, Rental & Retail centre. NBS offers adult, child, group, private and specialist lessons, quality rental gear from big brands and a retail store with all of the must have snow gear including goggles, gloves and snow accessories to keep you warm, safe and looking good on the hill!

There are several child minding services available in Niseko. Child Minding is available at the Alpen Hotel for either half or full day. There are also other chilld minding services including in-house baby sitting. Pre booking of all child minding services is essential.

Perfectly located at the top of the village with ski in/ski out access to the Ace Quad chair lift. This large hotel offers all resort style facilities. With mainly Western style rooms, the hotel does have Japanese rooms on request and combination triple rooms with single Western beds for two and tatami Japanese bedding. Facilities include: ski storage area, great souvenir shop, restaurants, bars, karaoke rooms and lap pool with spa, sauna and steam room.

The Hirafutei is one of the largest hotels in Niseko. It offers great amenities with ski out access to the Ace Family Chairlift. The deluxe rooms come with private onsen for an extra charge. Most rooms in the Hirafutei are Japanese style with thin futon mattresses on tatami mats. There are however Western rooms available. Best of all, the hotel has a fantastic onsen within the property, one of Hirafu’s most popular onsens and is free for guests to use.

Located around 3.5 hours by bullet train and bus is Tohoku’s largest resort of Appi Kogen and is considered one of the best quality ski resorts in Japan. The 282 hectare resort’s North facing slopes keep the snow in top condition throughout the season which runs from the start of December through to the beginning of May - about 160 days. On average, more than 8 metres of dry powder snow fall on Appi each season. The resort is renowned for its quality grooming but don’t worry there are plenty of runs left ungroomed for those that love powder. LANGUAGE While most Japanese learn some English at school and can often read basic English words and signs, many are unable to speak beyond a few words. However, due to the popularity of some resorts such as Niseko with foreign visitors you may find that some shops and restaurants will have someone who can speak some English if you run into trouble. Signs and instructions are frequently found in both English and Japanese in accommodations. Restaurants will also sometimes have an English menu.

LAWS Please respect the local laws. The legal age for drinking and smoking in Japan is 20 years old. Japanese law has a zero tolerance for possession and sales of illegal drugs. Unlike Australia and other countries, it is illegal to drive under the influence of alcohol. The effective blood alcohol limit is 0. Use of foreign-made UHF CB radios is prohibited as they can interfere with emergency transmissions and digital TV signals.

POWER Japanese electrical goods run at 110V. Plugs in Japan consist of two prongs with no earth. If you come from a country that uses 240V your appliances will not work in Japan unless they contain a switching power supply, usually indicated on the label by the text “110V–240V”. If you forgot to bring an adapter you can purchase a handy universal adapter from SkiJapan.com’ s Niseko office.

RUBBISH Due to its lack of space for land-fills, Japan was one of the first countries in the world to adopt a programme for sorting and recycling rubbish. Most accommodations will have several bins available to guests, each labeled with the type of garbage to insert. Please assist your hosts by sorting your garbage correctly.

You may have noticed that there are no bins on the streets. This is common throughout Japan. Please carry any rubbish with you and dispose of it at your accommodation or in the bins you may find in front of conven -ience stores.

MONEY You may be surprised to find that Japan is still primarily a cash society. Whilst the use of credit cards is spreading you will find that, outside of large stores, convenience stores etc., your credit card is not accepted. It is recommended that you carry cash with you at all times. Travellers cheques are also not widely accepted in stores though they can be exchanged at most banks. Foreign Exchange offices are mostly located in airports and large city centres. The other surprise is that ATMs are not open 24 hours as they are in other countries. Banks usually operate between 10am–3pm. ATMs are usually open from 9am–5pm. This can vary depending on the company providing the service. You’ll also find that opening hours vary on Japanese Public Holidays.

SOCIAL Removing Footwear: In most Asian cultures - including Japan - it is customary to remove your footwear before entering a home. This practical custom prevents the floor inside getting dirty. Usually slippers will be available at the entrance (genkan). If slippers aren’t provided it is acceptable to wear socks indoors. Bare feet are generally frowned upon unless you are at a close friends house. Bow Politely: In Japan, bowing (ojigi) is an important custom, it is how Japanese commonly greet each other and it is impolite not to return a bow. Bowing can express a lot of things in Japan, such as thank you, sorry, excuse me, goodbye and any form of greeting. Surgical Masks: If people are feeling sick or have the flu they will wear a mask to prevent spreading it to other people. If you are in Japan and you feel sick or catch a cold/cough, remember to wear a mask in consideration of other people around you - especially in the work place.

PRICES: All prices are quoted ‘per person’ unless otherwise stated. Land component prices are priced in Japanese Yen (JPY) and are converted to United States Dollars (USD) using an indicative exchange rate. Trip payments are made in Japanese Yen (JPY). The offer, prices and all terms and conditions in the brochure, on our website and all our promotional material are subject to change or withdrawal without notice prior to final payment being received by SkiJapan.com. BOOKING: To secure your booking, a 20% Non-Refundable deposit of the total trip invoice is required within 7 days of receiving our confirmation. Your payment is required; otherwise your reservation may be automatically cancelled. Some properties may require deposit payment inside the standard 7 days and an increased deposit to secure the booking. Payment of a deposit indicates acceptance of these conditions. Please note all bookings will be secured when 1) The deposit is received 2) The names of each passenger travelling are provided 3) Flight itinerary is sent. BOOKING FORM: It is the responsibility of the person who makes the booking to inform all other people traveling under their name of these booking conditions. This person is responsible for checking that all names of people traveling, travel dates and arrangements are correct at time of confirmation. If there is a discrepancy SkiJapan.com must be notified immediately. Subsequent changes may incur amendment and/or cancellation fees. The person who confirms the booking with deposit, acknowledges these conditions and shall be liable for all fees for the entire traveling party in the event of any cancellation. AMENDMENT FEES: These are charged if amendments are made to bookings (e.g change of dates or decreasing numbers of people travelling) after deposit is received. Amendment to bookings will incur a fee of 5,000yen admin fee per trip per amendment; this is in addition to any supplier amendment fees charged. If an amendment involving a reduction in the number of persons travelling occurs at any time the below cancellation penalties and terms apply to that persons trip who iscancelling. The package price will be amended accordingly to new passenger numbers. For

selected properties amendments involving reducing the nights of stay and/or the number of units will be treated as a cancellation. The cancellation policy applies. CANCELLATION FEES: In the event of cancellation, more than 60 days prior to departure, a cancellation fee of 20% of total invoicewill be charged (loss of deposit). For cancellations made after final payment or within 60 – 45 days prior a cancellation fee of 20% of total invoice will be charged in addition to any airline, accommodation and supplier fees. For cancellations within 45 days up to 100% cancellation fee will apply. No allowance or refund can be made on any unused package components once travel has commenced. If a person or persons cancel from a SkiJapan.com booking, they and the remaining people in the booking will be liable for the additional accommodation costs that result from the cancelling persons.
