First Growth Bordeaux 1006 Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1986 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe “The 1986 possesses outstanding richness, a deep color, medium body, a graceful, harmonious texture, and superb length. The penetrating fragrance of cedar, chestnuts, minerals, and rich fruit is a hallmark of this wine. Powerful, dense, rich, and tannic, as well as medium to full-bodied, with awesome extraction of fruit, this Lafite has immense potential. Patience is required. Anticipated maturity: 20002030.” R. Parker for TWA, 94 pts. 04/05 1 bottle $500-700 1009 Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2002 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe “A brilliant offering and a candidate for wine of the vintage, this is classic Lafite that reminded me somewhat of the 1976, although the vintage conditions were completely different. This is a medium-weight, quintessentially elegant style of Lafite with notes of lead pencil shavings/graphite along with black currants, plums, and crushed rocks/mineral. Wonderfully pure, dense, with a deep ruby/purple color and loads of fruit, definition, and a long finish, this is a brilliant, elegant Lafite Rothschild that builds incrementally in the mouth and has more power and density than it initially seems.” R. Parker for TWA, 94 pts. 04/05 2 bottles $1,000-1,300 1010 Chateau Latour 1969 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe u: high shoulder, very lightly corroded capsules, stained and lightly gluestriped labels 2 bottles $400-600 1011 Chateau Latour 1969 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe u: two top shoulder, one high shoulder, four high-mid shoulder, one corroded capsule, six lightly worn and very lightly corroded capsules, glue striped and bin-soiled labels, one label unaffixed 7 bottles $1,400-2,100 1012 Chateau Latour 1971 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe 1 bottle $300-400

Parker for TWA, 95 pts. 02/98 1 bottle $300-400 1023 Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1995 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe “Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is “great stuff,” with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2030.” R. Parker for TWA, 95 pts. 02/98 2 bottles $600-800

Spring flowers, crushed rocks, creme de cassis and some subtle oak are followed by a full-bodied, concentrated wine that transcends the vintage character in its power, richness, and aging potential. It also exhibits tremendous precision, purity, and depth of character. It is more forward than the 2010 is likely to be, but probably not as sumptuous as the 2009 will turn out to be. This is a wine to buy. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2035.” R. Parker for TWA, 95+ pts. 05/11 12 bottles (owc) $1,000-1,200 1031 Chateau Gruaud Larose 1995 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe 3 bottles $200-275

This huge wine is, in many ways, just as massive as Leoville Barton, but it possesses a greater degree of elegance as well as unreal concentration. Classic lead pencil, cassis, kirsch, cedar, and spice characteristics are abundant in both the nose and full-bodied flavors. The tannins are still there, and, at least from my cellar, this 1982 does not appear to have changed much in the last 10-12 years. One wonders how much patience admirers of this brilliant St.-Julien will continue to exhibit. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2050.” R. Parker for TWA, 95+ pts. 06/09 12 bottles (owc) $3,000-4,000 1038 Chateau Leoville Las Cases 2004 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe R. Parker for TWA, 93 pts. 06/07 1 magnum $175-250

The dense, full-bodied 1989 is brilliantly made with huge, smoky, chocolatey, cassis aromas intermingled with scents of toasty oak. Well-layered, with a sweet inner-core of fruit, this awesomely endowed, backward, tannic, prodigious 1989 needs another 5-6 years of cellaring; it should last for three decades or more. It is unquestionably a great PichonLongueville-Baron.” R. Parker for TWA, 95 pts. 01/97 6 bottles $900-1,300 1048 Chateau Pichon Longueville Lalande 2002 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe “One of the best wines of the vintage, this is a classic Pauillac that is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot. Dense ruby/purple in color with a glorious nose of melted licorice, lavender, barbecue smoke, black currants, and graphite, the wine is tannic, classically structured with an opaque ruby/purple color, beautiful definition, and a 1996-ish personality. This deep, full-bodied, elegant yet powerful 2002 should age handsomely for over two decades. Some patience will be required since this vintage exhibits more muscle and virility than normal. Anticipated maturity: 20102025.” R. Parker for TWA, 94 pts. 04/05 12 bottles (owc) $850-1,200

1048A Chateau Rauzan Segla 2005 Margaux, 2eme Cru Classe 3 bottles $200-300

Third Growth Bordeaux 1049 Chateau Boyd Cantenac 2000 Margaux, 3eme Cru Classe 12 bottles (owc) $500-700 1050 Chateau Calon Segur 2005 St. Estephe, 3eme Cru Classe “A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, the totally closed 2005 Calon Segur is one of those traditionally made, backstrapping, uncompromising Bordeaux that will last 30-40 or more years. Its dense ruby color with purple nuances is followed by a nose that reluctantly offers up scents of damp earth, wood smoke, black cherries, cassis, and an exotic Asian spice character. The wine is formidably endowed and broodingly tannic, with noticeable acidity and a structured, nearly impenetrable mouthfeel. Nevertheless, it is easy to sense the weight, extract, and richness in this pure, deep wine. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2050.” R. Parker for TWA, 92+ pts. 04/08 4 bottles $300-400

1056 Chateau Duhart Milon 2003 Pauillac, 4eme Cru Classe “A spectacular wine, and one that could have been bought for a song when it was released, this blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot was cropped at 33 hectoliters per hectare. Strutting all of its nobility, richness and majesty in 2014, it boasts abundant notes of cedarwood, creme de cassis, licorice and a hint of lead pencil shavings. Full-bodied, rich, dense and fully mature, it is capable of lasting another 7-10 years. This beauty is a big-time sleeper of the vintage” R. Parker for TWA, 94 pts. 08/14 12 bottles (owc) $700-900

1057 Chateau Talbot 1986 St. Julien, 4eme Cru Classe u: two very top shoulder, nine top shoulder, one high shoulder “A fabulous wine, and one of the two greatest Talbots of the last 50 years, this wine still has a very murky garnet/ plum/purple color and a spectacular nose of sweet creme de cassis intermixed with freshly ground pepper, melted road tar, herbes de Provence, and beef blood. It is followed by an enormously concentrated wine of full body, layers of concentration and sweet tannin. The wine seems to be just hitting its plateau of maturity, where it should last for at least 10-15 more years. A prodigious Talbot.” R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 01/03 12 bottles (owc) $1,000-1,500

Close to full maturity, it exhibits a dense ruby/ plum/purple color in addition to a subtle herbaceousness intermixed with smoked meats, black currants, licorice, cedar, and foresty notes. Rich and full-bodied with light tannins, and a slightly richer, more savory, broader, deeper style than I remember, it should drink well for 10-15 years.” R. Fifth Growth Bordeaux 1064 Chateau Duhart Milon 2010 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe “Dense purple, with classic notes of cedar and lead pencil shavings as well as gobs of back currants and licorice, the wine has a full-bodied mouthfeel with fabulous precision and density. It also possesses a long, silky finish with moderately high tannins, but they are ripe and well-integrated. The wood is clearly pushed to the background in this dense, full-bodied Pauillac, which should drink beautifully for 30+ years.” R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 02/13 12 bottles (owc) $750-1,000 1065 Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste 1995 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe “Another unbelievably rich, multidimensional, broad-shouldered wine, with slightly more elegance and less weight than the powerhouse 1996, this gorgeously proportioned, medium to full-bodied, fabulously ripe, rich, cassis-scented and flavored GrandPuy-Lacoste is a beauty. It should be drinkable within 4-5 years, and keep for 25-30. This classic Pauillac is a worthy rival to the other-worldly 1996. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025.” R. Parker for TWA, 95 pts. 02/98 1 magnum $200-300 1066 Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste 2000 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe “The 2000 Grand Puy Lacoste is even better than such recent vintages as 2005 and 2009. A broad, classic, large-scaled effort, it boasts a deep blue/purple color as well as tell-tale notes of creme de cassis, subtle smoke, flowers, and unsmoked tobacco. Powerful, full-bodied flavors have shed a lot of tannin, but they remain relatively youthful. This is a young adolescent, broadly flavored Pauillac with an enticing texture as well as abundant richness and fruit. It can be enjoyed now, but promises to hit its peak in five years, and last for two decades.” R. Fullbodied with velvety tannins that have resolved themselves beautifully over the last eleven years, this wine is still an adolescent, but it exhibits admirable purity, texture, mouthfeel and power combined with elegance. One of the all-time great examples of Lynch Bages, the 2000 is just beginning to drink well yet promises to last for another 20-25+ years.” R. All the tannins are resolved, the acidity is low and this deliciously savory, rich wine is in full bloom. Drink the complex, beautiful 1982 now and over the next decade.” R. 1089 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge 2005 Pessac Leognan “Perhaps the finest wine made at this estate in many years (no doubt due to the influence of wine consulting guru Stephane Derenoncourt), the 2005 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest primarily Merlot with tiny portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. A dark ruby/purple hue is followed by a classic Graves bouquet of charcoal, graphite, creosote, smoked herbs, sweet black cherries, and spice box. The wine is elegant on the attack, but fills out beautifully with a multilayered, rich mouthfeel, silky tannins, and a plush, opulent finish. This brilliant claret may turn out to be even better than my score suggests. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2030+.” R. Parker for TWA, 92 pts. 04/08 12 bottles (owc) $600-900

1094 Chateau La Mission Haut Brion 1978 Pessac Leognan u: into neck “One of the top ten wines of the vintage, the glorious 1978 is a candidate for “the” wine of the vintage. Seemingly fully mature (it is more evolved than the 1975), it exhibits a dark garnet color with little lightening at the edge as well as a classic La Mission bouquet of truffles, charcoal, scorched earth, black currants, plums, figs and crushed rocks. A sweet, medium to full-bodied entry on the palate reveals totally resolved tannins, adequate acidity and uncanny richness, complexity, texture and length. This surprisingly dense, concentrated, velvety La MissionHaut-Brion displays all the complexity of this great terroir. At the peak of its evolutionary track, it is in no danger of falling apart, but prudence suggests drinking it over the next 15-20 years.” R. The blackberry, cassis liqueur-like fruit of this wine is awesome. The color is saturated black/purple, and the wine extremely full-bodied and powerful with layers of glycerin-imbued fruit, massive richness, plenty of licorice, blackberry, and cassis flavors, full body, and a thick, unctuous texture. This is a dense, impressive offering from administrator Jean-Michel Arcaute. This wine should continue to improve for another 10-25 years. Anticipated maturity: 20062025.” R. The wine is exceptionally pure and multilayered, with stunning texture and overall balance. The tannin level suggests 3-4 years of cellaring is warranted; it should age gracefully for 25+ years. If readers are wondering why Pavie has become so much better under the administration of Chantal and Gerard Perse, keep in mind that yields are one-third of what they were under the previous owners.” R. 1103 Chateau Bellevue 2000 St. Emilion “This was the breakthrough vintage for this fabulous terroir that had been under-exploited for so many years. A collaboration between Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt, this medium to fullbodied, pure blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc reveals aromas reminiscent of a liqueur of crushed rocks, black currants, and raspberries. The tannins are still present, and the wine is firmer than I expected, but it is loaded. Made in a distinctive, singular, elegant style, it will be even better in 5-6 years, and should last for two decades thereafter - longer than I originally predicted.” R. This opaque blue/purple wine displays notes of black cherries, truffles, damp earth and licorice. Fullbodied, very deep and powerful, it will need of 6-8 years of cellaring but should keep for 25-30 years. It has the potential to be the best Providence to date.” R. The vintage commenced early for Yquem, beginning on September 29 and finishing on November 18. Most observers feel the 1983 will mature more slowly than the 1986, and will last for almost 100 years. Given Yquem’s unbelievable aging potential, such comments do not seem far fetched. At present, the 1983 is enormous, with huge, honeyed, pineapple, coconut, and caramel flavors, massive extract, and an unctuous quality barely framed by acidity and new oak. I do not feel the wine has changed since bottling, and I would not want to start drinking it for at least another 10-15 years. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2050.” R. Unfortunately, this seems to have lost some of the vibrancy that it once had and I would be drinking up over the next 5 years or so even if there is no particular rush. Tasted multiple times through 2005 though only once recently but presuming the bottle that I had was representative, this is beginning to decline ever-so-slightly. One other recent bottle displayed noticeable volatile acidity and was not at all like the bottle described above.” Burghound, 91 pts. 03/13 Provenance: The Doctor’s Collection. 1 bottle $250-350 1141 No lot. 1142 Henri Boillot Clos Vougeot 2009 Cote de Nuits 6 bottles $600-900 1143 Bouchard Pere et Fils Beaune Greves Vigne l’Enfant Jesus 2009 Cote de Beaune “Moderate wood sets off very ripe aromas of black cherry, plum and wet stone that also characterizes the extremely rich yet beautifully detailed flavors that possess superb intensity as well as fine complexity on the tensionfilled and wonderfully persistent finish. 1145 Bouchard Pere et Fils Meursault Perrieres 2012 Cote de Beaune “This is surprisingly expressive at this early stage with its high-toned nose of wet stone, spiced pear and acacia blossom. There is excellent tension to the even stonier and quite finely detailed flavors that possess a seductively textured mid-palate yet the balanced, intense and moderately dry finale is mildly austere even while displaying just enough wood to notice. This should age well though note that in this case I would recommend allowing for at least 5 years of bottle age before trying a bottle.” R. As with several of these wines, the amount of sap renders the big tannins almost invisible at present and I very much admire how the minerality remains the focal point of this wine from nose to finish. A wine that will age gracefully for decades.” Burghound, 97 pts. 04/09 4 bottles $3,250-4,750

1183 Leroy Clos de Vougeot 1999 Cote de Nuits “Very primary, ripe, fresh, earthy, spicy and highly expressive aromas complement equally ripe, big-bodied and still firmly tannic flavors that possess superb depth and outstanding length. This is a serious wine and while it doesn’t have quite as much austerity that is typical of still youthful Clos de Vougeot, it will probably require the better part of 10 years to realize its full potential and it may very well require more time than that. Thanks to the buckets of dry extract, the intense flavors are supple and really quite delicious but it doesn’t take a gifted taster to discern the solid tannic spine that lurks beneath the sap. A really fine effort that should age, and drink, gracefully for years to come. Consistent notes.” Burghound, 94 pts. 05/10 1 bottle $550-800

I very much like the poise this wine displays as it’s harmonious, transparent and beautifully well-balanced. An exceptionally ripe nose of plum jam, cassis and blackberry is complemented by a superb range of spices, including clove, anise and cinnamon plus attractive herbal undertones. The incredibly sappy and powerful medium full flavors are sweet and supple yet there is a very firm tannic spine buried beneath the mountain of dry extract. Despite the very high degree of ripeness, this is quite fresh for the vintage with a chewy but mouth coating and palate staining finish that goes on and on. In short, this is an opulent Musigny with superb underlying material and clearly at another level compared to the other wines in the range.” Burghound, 93 pts. 01/06 6 bottles $1,800-2,700

1206 Domaine de la Romanee Conti Romanee St. Vivant 1993 Cote de Nuits u: 1.0cm “A classic and explosive RSV nose with superbly elegant black fruit aromas that also display hints of dried flowers and stem hints along with the usually Asian spice nuances is followed by still tight, pure, concentrated and intense flavors of outstanding complexity and length. This is dense and still relatively young though not so much that it can’t be enjoyed. That said, I would continue to cellar this for another few years though if you’re going to try one now it would not be a crime provided that it was decanted for an hour or so first. In sum, this is a dramatic and extremely impressive wine that has it all. Multiple, and mostly consistent, notes though a few bottles have displayed a more pronounced stemminess on the nose that some may find mildly off-putting.” Burghound, 94 pts. 10/13 Provenance: The Doctor’s Collection. 1 bottle $750-1,000

Northern Rhone 1218 Chapoutier Ermitage Cuvee de l’Oree 1998 Northern Rhone “The 1998 Ermitage Cuvee de l’Oree’s explosive bouquet offers a liquid minerality, honeyed tropical fruits, peaches, and acacia flowers. Amazingly, the 100% new oak treatment has been totally absorbed. The wine is extremely full-bodied, fresh, and pure, with an immense palate presence as well as finish. Drink it over the next 4-5 years, or forget about it for a decade.” R. Parker for TWA, 99 pts. 02/01 2 bottles $300-400

The black/purple color is followed by a sweet, intense fragrance of licorice, peppery black currants, and spices. Full-bodied, powerful, and dense, with remarkable intensity, this is a supple wine that should be drinkable in 6-7 years, and last for 20-25 years. It is a remarkable achievement for the vintage.” R. More voluptuous and hedonistic than the 2010, it offers a smorgasbord of black raspberry, blackberry, licorice, roasted herbs and cured meats that flow to a massive, full-bodied wine that has nothing out of place. 1228 Pegau Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo 2007 Southern Rhone “For the fourth time, the Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo has been produced, and for the fourth time, it has received a perfect score although I might back off the 2000’s perfect score based on the fact that it seems to be more of an upper-ninety point wine than pure perfection these days. The 2007 may come closest in style to the 1998, the debut vintage, although the tannins are sweeter and the wine is perhaps fatter and richer in the mouth. The alcohols in these cuvees can be very high, ranging from 16.1% in 2003, 15.8% in 2000, 16.3% in 1998, to 15.5% (the lowest ever) in 2007. An inky/purple color is followed by aromas of smoked meats, Peking duck, licorice, lavender, aged beef, grilled steak blood, black currants, plums, sauteed cepes and soy. Enormously concentrated, broad, expansive and massive but not over the top, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is impossible to imagine unless one has a bottle to work through over the course of 4 to 5 hours. Although they advertise using all 13 authorized varietals, this wine is over 90% Grenache, largely from the famed La Crau section of Chateauneuf du Pape. They do have other vineyards from which they pull some of the fruit that goes into the Cuvee da Capo, including St.-Jean, Esquilons and occasionally Monpertuis. The 2007 seems to be broader, fatter, more unctuously textured and more flattering to drink at this stage than the 1998 was. In that sense, the evolutionary development may resemble their 2003s. The 2007 was bottled in February, 2010, and my anticipated drinking dates are 20142030+.” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 10/10 2 bottles $450-650

Firm and bright, this offers impressions of chalk and crushed stone as vivid as any you are apt to encounter. There is a multi-layered yet dynamic complexity here exceptional even by the exalted standards of this estate. Crushed stone, peat, humus, garrigue, game, and black fruits accumulate without any sense of weight and the finish here clings with sappy intensity and invigorating energy. I would anticipate at least a dozen years of highperformance.” D. Schildknecht for TWA, 94 pts. 06/11 2 bottles $60-80

1229 Domaine da la Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf du Pape Reservee 2003 Southern Rhone “Another wine that doesn’t put a hair wrong, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve shows none of the negative stereotypes in the vintage and has incredible purity, notable freshness and a blockbuster, layered and balanced profile. Getting more than one expletive in the notes, it offers perfumed kirsch, blackberry, licorice, mint and hints of garrigue in its full-bodied, decadent and insanely textured personality. Still a baby, it will most likely be the longestlived wine in the vintage. Don’t let that stop you from opening bottles though, as it’s a heavenly drink today as well.” J. Deep purple, the aromas are other-worldly with truffle, tar, graphite, kirsch, and wild blueberry among the array of scents leaping from the glass. 1262 Numanthia Numanthia 2004 Castilla Leon “Any aspiring collectors should add a case of this to their stash. The 2004 Numanthia comes from a different terroir with a different clone of Tinta de Toro. The vines for this cuvee range from 70-100 years of age with tiny yields of 1 ton of fruit per acre. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrel followed by 19 months in new French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. The wine is a glass-coating opaque purple with a killer nose of mineral, pencil lead, wild blueberry, and blackberry liqueur that roars from the glass. On the palate the wine is fullbodied, dense, and already beginning to show complexity within its layers of spicy black fruits. There is immense power, well-concealed ripe tannin, and the well-delineated finish lasts for over one minute. This is a sensational effort which in a perfect world should be cellared for a decade and enjoyed over the following 25+ years. However, the elderly among us should not feel guilty about opening a bottle now.” J. Miller for TWA, 98 pts. 02/07 3 bottles $525-750 1263 Numanthia Termanthia 2004 Castilla Leon “The bouquet of the 2004 Termanthia is very intense but not overpowering, with notes of black currant, menthol, peppermint, kirsch and just a touch of eau-de-vie. The palate is full-bodied with dense, firm, quite robust tannins. It is very powerful with layers of spicy red berry fruit laced with cloves and Provencal herbs. There is still some oak to be subsumed towards the finish, which has mouth-gripping tannins. It is still very youthful, although after almost ten years, we have to wait and see what secondary delights it may muster. This is not a perfect wine, not in my book. But it is a great Toro, even if I blaspheme by suggesting that it will be ultimately be out-performed by the following vintage. Drink 2016-2025+.” N. Martin for TWA, 94 pts. 04/13 3 bottles $525-750

The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, crisp acidity with a composed, focused finish of black cherries, raspberry, cedar and mocha. The 2007 has great precision and focus. It is more feminine and assured than the 2006, but one senses that it is holding something back to charm consumers in five or six years’ time. This is very impressive. Drink 2017-2030.” N. 1305 Dominus Proprietary Red 2002 Napa “This 2002 was virtually perfect when I tasted it in early May. Even better than I predicted seven years ago, this 4,500-case blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot and Merlot has blossomed beautifully, revealing even greater intensity and potential than I predicted. A flawless, seamless integration of tannin, wood, alcohol and acidity is found in this dense, plum/purple-colored Dominus, along with copious notes of sweet black currants interwoven with kirsch, forest floor, unsmoked cigar tobacco, new saddle leather and forest floor. Fullbodied with velvety tannins, stunning elegance and a 45-second finish, this sensational 2002 rivals two of the all-time great wines made at Dominus, 1991 and 1994. It is hard to believe that proprietor Christian Moueix’s Dominus Estate has already celebrated its 25th anniversary and is moving toward 30 years with the 2012-2013 vintages. This is a large-scaled wine, but with flamboyant marmalade, white currant, honeysuckle, and tropical fruit notes, less minerality than La Carriere, but beautiful acidity and a stony, steely personality not dissimilar to a grand cru in Burgundy such as CortonCharlemagne.” R. 1325 Peter Michael Cuvee Indigene Chardonnay 2005 Sonoma “The 2005 Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene is spectacular. Huge honeysuckle, nectarine, and citrus oil notes along with some lemon blossom, crushed rocks, and subtle smoke are all present in this full-bodied wine that is buttressed by sensational acidity. This is a gorgeous wine that should age for at least a decade.” R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 12/07 2 bottles $200-300

Buttery, honeyed tropical fruit, spring flower, white peach and citrus aromas jump from the glass of this aromatic 2008. On the palate, it is deep, rich, concentrated and almost as big, full-bodied and layered as Peter Michael’s flagship, limited production Chardonnay called Point Rouge. The stunning Cuvee Indigene has come on like gangbusters over the last year.” R. 1327 Peter Michael Cuvee Indigene Chardonnay 2007 Sonoma “The amazing 2007 Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene reveals plenty of waxy, leesy, honeysuckle notes intermixed with orange marmalade, brioche, pineapple, and white citrus scents. The wine is buttressed by considerable acidity and a remarkable finish. This extraordinary effort may be the finest Cuvee Indigene I have ever tasted. Drink it over the next decade.” R. 1333 Peter Michael La Carriere Chardonnay 2008 Sonoma “The super-concentrated 2008 Chardonnay La Carriere (2,100 cases produced) exhibits that telltale greenish hue to its straw color (which I always consider a positive sign), boisterous alcohol (15.5%), deep, concentrated, buttery flavors of nectarines, oranges, honeysuckle and subtle earth as well as oak, and excellent acidity. This is a superb Chardonnay to drink over the next 7-8 years.” R. 1324 Peter Michael Cuvee Indigene Chardonnay 2002 Sonoma “There are 500 cases of the 2002 Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene, which comes from a parcel of Chardonnay vines made famous by Helen Turley, the Upper Barn/Gauer Ranch, renamed the Alexander Valley Mountain Estate when it was acquired by Jess Jackson. This 2002 exhibits wonderfully buttered orange, brioche, and ripe citrus notes, terrific minerality, and a full-bodied, layered, concentrated, intense style. Like all of these wines, it is brilliantly balanced by zesty acidity that provides a refreshing as well as vigorous personality.” R. Parker for TWA, (93-95) pts. 12/03 2 bottles $200-300

1337 Peter Michael Point Rouge Chardonnay 2005 Sonoma “The 2005 Chardonnay Point Rouge has that light goldish-greenish hue to its color, much like the other wines, deep, full-bodied flavors, great ripeness, but more restraint, structure, and almost a sense of tannin given the wine’s firmness. This is a beauty, but given the higher acids in 2005, I would age this for another 6-12 months before I began drinking it. Having said that, I have already consumed two bottles of my allocation at charity events, and they were huge hits with the participants. This wine should age for at least 10+ years.” R. With another year of cellaring it has gained considerable weight. It now looks to be one of the greatest examples of Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon Ridge has produced. Only 40% of the crop made it into the final blend, which consists of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, and 4% Cabernet Franc. The wine offers a black/purple color, a profound nose of minerals, cassis, licorice, and spices, spectacular richness, and a great mid-palate that boasts layers of fruit. Admirable purity, fine underlying acidity, and considerable sweet, ripe tannin make this another compelling effort. Given the stunning 1990 Ridge Monte Bello and the exceptional promise of both the 1991 Monte Bello and the unbottled 1993 Monte Bello, Ridge has a quartet of stunning Cabernets that rival, and possibly eclipse what this winery achieved in 1968, 1969, 1970, and 1971. Assuming good cellar conditions, the 1992 Monte Bello should have 30-35 years of longevity.” R. Parker for TWA, (94-97) pts. 04/94 6 bottles $450-650

Washington 1393 Cayuse Bionic Frog Syrah 2002 Columbia Valley 6 bottles $1,200-1,800 1394 Cayuse Bionic Frog Syrah 2004 Columbia Valley “The 2004 Bionic Frog “Coccinella Vineyard” was aged in 100% Dominique Laurent “magic cask” barrels, 25% of them new. Opaque purple-colored, the wine has a fabulous perfume of violets and lavender as well grilled meat, game, and blueberry compote. Dense, powerful yet elegant, this splendid effort demands a decade of cellaring and should drink well through 2045.” J. Miller for TWA, 99 pts. 08/07 6 bottles $1,500-1,950

1396 Cayuse Bionic Frog Syrah 2006 Columbia Valley “The 2006 Bionic Frog Syrah has an awesome perfume that jumps from the glass. Notes of forest floor, underbrush, mushrooms, liquid minerals, blueberry, and black cherry lead to a remarkably succulent, voluptuous wine that is entirely seductive. Imagine having to choose between your ideal fantasy sexual partner and this wine – and you choose The Frog! That’s how good it is.” J. 1400 K Vintners Charles Smith Old Bones Syrah 2007 Columbia Valley “The 2007 Old Bones is composed of 50% Heart and 50% Skull aged in 500-liter new barrels. Savory, rich, layered, and already complex, this exceptionally lengthy, mouthfilling, hedonistic Syrah offers just a micrometer of extra flavor interest compared to either Heart or Skull individually. The new oak and a broader palette of flavors to choose among are the most likely contributors.” J. Miller for TWA, 98 pts. 08/10 3 bottles $500-700 1401 K Vintners Charles Smith Royal City Syrah 2007 Washington “The 2007 Royal City Syrah Stone Ridge Vineyard (4 barrels were produced) was made with 100% whole clusters. An inky purple/black in color, it deals out aromas of mineral, truffle, espresso, licorice, lavender, incense, and blueberry. Super complex, suave and debonair on the palate, this is a lengthy, concentrated, impeccably balanced, complete Syrah that will benefit from a decade of cellaring but is almost too addictive to resist now. Those with willpower who are able to delay gratification will be well rewarded for cellaring this beauty for a decade or more.” J. Miller for TWA, 99 pts. 08/10 3 bottles $450-600 1402 K Vintners Charles Smith The Skull Syrah 2007 Columbia Valley “The 2007 Skull is also from the Stone Ridge Vineyard in the Royal Slope. It was aged in 20% new oak with some stems. It is a more brooding effort with aromas of earth, underbrush, truffle, Asian spices, incense, and blueberry. It is slightly more structured with a bit more density and richness. Give it 6-8 years of additional bottle age and drink it from 2017 to 2032.” J. Miller for TWA, 98 pts. 08/10 3 bottles $500-700

1395 Cayuse Bionic Frog Syrah 2005 Columbia Valley “The kinkiest of the Syrahs is the 2005 Bionic Frog which was made with 25% stems. It was aged in Dominique Laurent barrels, 30% new. Purple/ black-colored, it has a sexy perfume of earth notes, mineral, spice box, and blueberry. Layered, opulent, and superrich, the finish just goes on and on.” J. Ullage (Level of Wine) Illustration and Interpretations For Bordeaux, Port, and other shouldered bottles n. bn. vts. ts. hs. ms. lms. s.

ullage is into neck bottom neck very top shoulder top shoulder; usual level for Bordeaux older than 15 yrs high shoulder; usual cork reduction, often found in Bordeaux over 20 yrs, low risk mid shoulder; variation likely as indicates cork deterioration low mid shoulder; some risks, reflected in estimates shoulder; risky, reflected in estimates into neck bottom neck very top shoulder top shoulder high shoulder mid shoulder low mid shoulder shoulder

Ullage of wines of vintages fifteen years and younger may be assumed to be of bottom neck or better unless otherwise noted. Similarly, regarding older vintages, lack of notation indicates acceptable and appropriate ullage, clear label and sound cork; potential bidders must be prepared for reasonable variations in ullage in all vintages older than 20 years. Bidders with specific condition questions should contact the Fine Wines department. Conditions generally not noted on group lots. Bordeaux wines are cataloged referencing the 1855 classification. Chateau Petrus cataloging reflects the practice of granting it 1er Cru Classe and other notable Pomerol Chateaux are designated Cru Classe. All Bordeaux wines may assume to be chateau bottled unless otherwise stated.

Fine Wines – Online

It is standard practice for Skinner/Lower Falls Wine to open all original wooden cases (owc) for visual inspection. The opening of banded cases will be determined on an individual basis. For Burgundy, German wines and all other more gradually slope-shouldered bottles, the ullage measurement is taken in centimeters from cork base, e.g. 3cm, 5cm, 7cm. Bottle Sizes bottle (750 ml) magnum (2xbt) marie jeanne (3xbt) double magnum (4xbt)

jeroboam (4xbt); Burgundy, Champagne jeroboam (6xbt); Bordeaux imperiale (8xbt); Bordeaux methuselah (8xbt); Burgundy

demi bottle (demi) split (1/4 bottle) Champagne

Buyers’ Caution: Levels are as when cataloged; ullage may change due to cork deterioration; other bottle conditions may occur during storage and shipment. Risk of ullage variation and cork deterioration and/or failure is assumed by the buyer at time of sale and no sale cancellations, price negotiations, or bottle substitutions will be undertaken by either Skinner or Lower Falls Wine. Similarly, no substitutions will be made due to inaccurate descriptions. Flights of Lots: Are of the same type, vintage and bottle count and follow one after another numerically, though ullage and bottle conditions may vary. The auctioneer may exercise discretion to offer, in consecutive lot order and at that same price, the following lots in the flight to the first successful bidder of that flight. Subsequently, those lots not purchased will be offered anew and so on. Absentee bids placed on any lot in a flight will be applied to the next lot in the flight (if unsuccessful), until the flight concludes. Environmental Note: It has only been in the last 15-20 years that the wine industry has moved away from using lead capsules to cover the cork and neck of a bottle. When opening an older wine, if you do have a lead capsule, give consideration as to how you dispose of it.
