A Boston Gentleman’s Collection 1 Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon Oenotheque 1995 Epernay u: all above foil “The 1995 Dom Perignon Oenotheque is the second release of this wine, and was disgorged in 2005. This silky-textured Champagne reveals breathtaking finesse, elegance and clarity in its perfumed bouquet, with delicate notes of pears and roasted nuts that add further complexity. The finish goes on and on. This mind-bending Champagne possesses all of the qualities of profoundness, most importantly the ability to develop beautifully in the glass and the potential to acquire even more depth in bottle over the coming years. It is a stunner. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2028.” A. Galloni for TWA, 96 pts. 12/08 3 bottles $750-1,000 2 Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon 1996 Epernay u: both above foil R. Parker for TWA, 98 pts. 12/05 2 bottles (2 x ind. oc) $425-550 3 Philipponnat Clos des Goisses 1996 Ay u: 2cm “One of the greatest examples of the ‘96 vintage, this wine has it all with elegance, intensity, subtlety and grace, not to mention buckets of unrealized potential that will enable this beauty to improve for at least another decade and perhaps longer. I can only imagine just how good this would be from magnum format! The nose is discreet, reserved and pure with lemon, green apple and layers upon layers of fruit framed by just the right amount of yeast influence that continues onto the exceptionally dry and tight flavors that are crisp and refined as well as superbly intense yet through it all there is this underlying sense of harmony, as though all of the elements are working in concert. The greatest wines, at least those cut from classical cloth, persuade through the subtlest means and so it is with the ‘96 Goisses, which is indeed a great wine by any measure. While it is drinkable now, for my taste preferences a lot of potential would be left in the glass and I wouldn’t start in earnest on this for another 5+ years.” Burghound, 97 pts. 10/07 1 bottle $200-300

4 Philipponnat Clos des Goisses 1999 Ay 3 bottles $325-450 5 Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1986 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe u: all into neck, light case wear to capsule bases, light staining to one label “Tasted at the château, the 1986 LafiteRothschild continues to offer an exquisite bouquet at 30 years of age. This is beautifully defined, still full of energy, with copious blackberry, clove, leather and graphite aromas that seem to gain momentum in the glass. The palate is extremely well balanced with a crystalline quality, filigree tannin, perfectly pitched acidity, a quintessential LafiteRothschild with a sense of energy and focus undiminished by time. This finish displays immense purity and refinement, one of the most mineral-driven Lafites that I have encountered, whilst the aftertaste seems to linger for over one minute. It must rank as one of the finest wines from the estate.” N. Martin for TWA, 98 pts. 12/16 3 bottles $2,500-3,600 6 Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1990 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe u: eight into neck, one label lightly stained R. 9 Chateau Cos d’Estournel 2005 St. Estephe, 2eme Cru Classe “The 2005 Cos d’Estournel is another great success from this property, which is owned by Michel Reybier. A superstar of St.-Estèphe in this vintage, this wine has a dense ruby/purple color, beautiful, sweet cassis and blackcurrant fruit, some floral notes, spice and a touch of oak in a full-bodied, layered, impressive multidimensional style. The tannins are surprisingly sweet and well-integrated, as is the acidity, alcohol and wood. This is a beauty and certainly the top wine of St.-Estèphe. Drink it over the next 25+ years.” R. Parker for TWA, 97 pts. 06/15 11 bottles $1,400-1,900 10 Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou 2005 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe “The 2005 Ducru Beaucaillou is a 10,000-case blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot (they used to produce 18,000-20,000 cases). It is an exceptionally powerful wine with a dense purple color, superb intensity, and a beautiful, sweet nose of spring flowers, raspberries, blueberries, graphite, and creme de cassis. Full-bodied with fabulous concentration, exceptionally high tannin, good acidity, and massive layers of richness that build incrementally on the palate, this monumental effort is more structured than their outstanding 2003. It may be the finest wine produced at this estate since the 1982 and 1961 Ducrus. Anticipated maturity: 20182050.” R. Parker for TWA, 97 pts. 04/08 11 bottles $1,500-2,100 11 Chateau Leoville Barton 1990 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe u: all into neck, light case wear to capsules 3 bottles $125-175 12 Chateau Leoville Poyferre 1982 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe u: three bottom neck, one very top shoulder, corrosion and slight losses to one capsule (with possible old seepage) R. Parker for TWA, 95 pts. 06/09 4 bottles $600-1,000

13 Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2003 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe “The spectacular 2003 Leoville Poyferre exhibits a dense purple color with a touch of lightening at the edge as well as notes of creosote, barbecue smoke, jammy black currants, licorice and spice box. This intense, voluptuously textured, full-bodied St.-Julien possesses low acidity and ripe tannin. Still fresh and exuberant, it is just entering its plateau of full maturity where it should remain for 10-15+ years.” R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 08/14 11 bottles $1,300-1,700

20 Chateau Pichon Lalande 1985 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe u: one into neck, four bottom neck, six very top shoulder 11 bottles $1,500-2,000

14 Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2004 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe 10 bottles $1,200-1,600

22 Chateau Pichon Lalande 1986 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe u: four into neck, four bottom neck, two very top shoulder, light stain to one label N. Martin for TWA, 95 pts. 12/16 10 bottles $1,500-2,000

21 Chateau Pichon Lalande 1986 u: six into neck, three bottom neck, two very top shoulder N. Martin for TWA, 95 pts. 12/16 11 bottles $1,700-2,200

23 Chateau Pichon Lalande 1994 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe u: all into neck 9 bottles $650-1,000 24 Chateau d’Issan 2005 Margaux, 3eme Cru Classe “The more serious grand vin twin, the 2005 d’Issan, has a stunning nose of spring flowers, blackcurrant and blue/black fruits galore, and an impressively opaque dark plum/ purple color. With a rich, concentrated and pure mouthfeel, wonderfully sweet tannin, full-bodied density and richness, but elegance in abundance, this is a stunner, and one of the great Margaux of the vintage. Drink it now and over the next 20 years.” R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 06/15 10 bottles $1,600-2,100

27 Chateau Palmer 1983 Margaux, 3eme Cru Classe u: two into neck, one bottom neck “Tasted at the Château Palmer vertical in London, this was the finest 1983 Château Palmer that I have encountered. The nose is ethereal with wonderful definition: mint-tinged red berry fruit, cedar, dried rose petals and very subtle acrid tang of a November bonfire. It is the definition and purity that is beguiling and yes, it is reminiscent of the 1961. The palate is beautifully balanced and lithe in the mouth. Like previous bottles, there is a Burgundy-like sensibility about this Palmer, sensual in the mouth with a crystalline finish that will have you reaching for the glass for another sip. Robert Parker stated that the 1983 was the best vintage following the epochal 1961 and I completely concur. This 1983 Palmer is probably at its peak now, although I have no doubt that it will continue to cruise at high altitude for many years.” N. Martin for TWA, 98 pts. 05/16 3 bottles $1,000-1,400 28 Chateau Palmer 1989 Margaux, 3eme Cru Classe u: all into neck “Tasted at the Château Palmer vertical in London, the 1989 Château Palmer has always been my favourite vintage from that decade after the 1983. The first bottle was unfortunately corked. The second was as it should be: the nose tensile with red berries, sous-bois, potpourri and strawberry pastille— lively and energetic. The palate is mediumbodied and vibrant right from the start, silky in texture with plenty of citrus fruit, gently building to a harmonious and detailed finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a magnificent Château Palmer that continues to effortlessly dish out so much vinous pleasure.” N. Martin for TWA, 98 pts. 05/16 10 bottles $2,500-3,500

25 Chateau Malescot St. Exupery 2005 Margaux, 3eme Cru Classe R. Parker for TWA, 96 pts. 06/15 12 bottles (owc) $950-1,450

31 Chateau Lynch Bages 1990 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe u: five into neck, six bottom neck, light case wear to three capsules “This magnificent Lynch Bages has been drinking well since the day it was released and it continues to go from strength to strength. The biggest, richest, fullest-bodied Lynch Bages until the 2000, the fully mature 1990 exhibits an unbelievably explosive nose of black currants, cedarwood, herbs and spice. The majestic, classically Bordeaux aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, voluptuously textured, rich, intense wine with superb purity as well as thrilling levels of fruit, glycerin and sweetness. This beauty should continue to provide immense pleasure over the next 15+ years.” R. Parker for TWA, 99 pts. 08/11 10 bottles $2,200-3,000 32 Chateau Pontet Canet 2003 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe “The spectacular 2003 Pontet Canet is still incredibly young and vigorous. This full-bodied classic boasts a dense purple color as well as a superb nose of graphite, creme de cassis, forest floor, licorice and a hint of truffles, low acidity, and extravagant richness. Most of the tannins have been resolved in this superstar of the vintage. It should continue to drink well for 10-15+ years.” R. Parker for TWA, 95+ pts. 08/14 11 bottles $900-1,300 33 Chateau Pontet Canet 2005 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe N. Martin for TWA, 97 pts. 07/16 11 bottles $900-1,400 34 Domaine de Chevalier 2005 Pessac Leognan “A glorious wine from Domaine de Chevalier, this 2005 reveals notes of graphite, subtle charcoal, blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, silky tannins, and a long, multi-dimensional finish. This is a killer effort from the Bernard family, who own this famous terroir in Pessac-Léognan. Drink it over the next 20-30 years.” R. Parker for TWA, 95 pts. 06/15 12 bottles (owc) $650-900

35 Chateau L’Angelus 1993 St. Emilion, Premier Grand Cru Classe (A) u: nine into neck, three bottom neck 12 bottles (owc) $1,800-2,250 36 Chateau L’Angelus 1993 St. Emilion, Premier Grand Cru Classe (A) u: two into neck, nine bottom neck 11 bottles $1,650-2,200 37 Chateau Cheval Blanc 1983 St. Emilion, Premier Grand Cru Classe (A) u: all into neck, light case wear to capsules 5 bottles $1,700-2,300 38 Chateau la Gaffeliere 2005 St. Emilion, Premier Grand Cru Classe (B) 12 bottles (owc) $750-1,200 39 Chateau Pavie Maquin 2005 St. Emilion, Premier Grand Cru Classe (B) “Inky bluish/purple in color, Pavie Macquin produced a prodigious effort from St.-Emilion in 2005. Its crushed, chalky rock minerality, massive body, and high tannin make for a wine to forget for another decade. Superloaded, concentrated and powerful, this wine should turn out great, but patience will be required. The blackberry and cassis fruit are there in abundance, but so is a massive structure. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035.” R. Parker for TWA, 96+ pts. 06/15 12 bottles (owc) $1,200-1,450 40 Chateau Fleur Cardinale 2005 St. Emilion 12 bottles (owc) $475-750 41 Chateau Fleur Cardinale 2005 St. Emilion 12 bottles (owc) $475-750

42 Chateau Clinet 2009 Pomerol “Clinet has been on a hot streak lately and the 2009 appears to be the greatest wine ever made at the estate, surpassing even the late Jean-Michel Arcaute’s monumental 1989. A blend of 85% Merlot and tiny amounts of Cabernet Franc (12%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (3%), this big Pomerol boasts an opaque, moonless night inky/blue/purple color in addition to a gorgeous perfume of blueberry pie, incense, truffles, black raspberries, licorice and wood smoke. Viscous and multidimensional with silky, sweet tannin, massive fruit concentration and full-bodied power, there are nearly 4,000 cases of this thick, juicy, perfect Clinet. It should drink well in 3-5 years and keep for 25-30.” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 12/11 4 bottles $700-1,000 43 Chateau Fleur de Gay 1989 St. Emilion u: all into neck, light bin markings to two labels R. Much more sexy, voluptuous and layered than the 2010, the 2009 Hermitage la Chapelle offers sensational levels of extract and concentration to go with notes of cassis, black raspberries, coffee bean, toasted bread and sweet spice. Beautifully pure, layered, and yet massively endowed, with sweet tannin, it will be drinkable at an earlier age than the 2010, but I suspect will be just as long lived. It’s a true tour de force in Hermitage!” J. A blend of 80% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvedre tipping the scales at 15.5% natural alcohol (which is slightly less than the Chaupin), the wine has an inky black/purple color as well as incredible density and richness, with notes of soy, blackberry, and blueberry liqueur, incense, acacia flowers and licorice. The layered, fullbodied mouthfeel displays no heat, but the wine has massive concentration and a silky, smooth finish. Because of the low acidity in the 2009s, and sweet tannins, this has turned out to be a glorious example of Chateauneuf du Pape to drink over the next two decades.” R. Loaded with classic Pegau spice, tobacco leaf, saddle leather, cured meats and lavender aromas and flavors, this beauty has no hard edges, full-bodied richness and weight, and a seamless finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. A wine that hasn’t shut down since bottling, it should continue to evolve gracefully for another decade at least. This is one of those wines you don’t want to miss.” J. 70 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia 2004 Piedmont “The 2004 Barolo Cascina Francia is an explosive wine that faithfully captures all of the promise it showed from barrel. This spectacularly rich, concentrated Barolo possesses striking perfume in its smoke, tar, spiced red fruits, licorice and flowers. The wine offers tremendous length and a finish that lasts forever. This is an especially dense, powerful Cascina Francia with a gorgeous core of perfumed sweet fruit that will require some time to fully emerge but is breathtakingly beautiful even at this early stage. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2029.” A. Galloni for TWA, 97 pts. 10/08 3 bottles $600-750

67 Pierre Usseglio Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve des Deux Freres 2006 “A candidate for the wine of the vintage, and one of the few wines to hit this level of quality in the vintage, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve des Deux Freres is a selection of 100% Grenache that was raised 60% in demi-muids and 40% in two- to three-yearold barrels. Possessing a slightly darker color than the Mon Aieul and a bigger, richer wine, it offers incredible notes of cassis, black currants, smoked herbs and leather in a full-bodied, voluptuous, ripe yet seamless package. It will hold for a decade, yet it’s a thrill ride today.” J. Dunnuck for TWA, 98 pts. 03/16 2 bottles $100-150 68 Pierre Usseglio Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve des Deux Freres 2007 Southern Rhone “One of the wines of this incredible vintage is unquestionably the 300-case 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape Reserve des Deux Freres from the Usseglio brothers. A big bruiser of a wine that has a huge core of cassis and black currant fruit, it gets more and more elegant with time in the glass and offers complex notes of roasted meats, garrigue, beef blood, licorice and truffle. Made from 100% Grenache aged mostly in new barrels, it’s absorbed every trace of its elevage and is just a sensational Chateauneuf du Pape to drink over the coming 10-15 years.” J. Dunnuck for TWA, 100 pts. 02/17 4 bottles $550-750

71 Gaja Sperss 1997 Piedmont u: both into neck, wear to capsules (light corrosion to one), slight nicking and bin markings to labels (one with small loss) “A virtually perfect effort is the 1997 Sperss (30,000 bottles), which represents the essence of truffles, earth, and black cherries in its striking aromatics and multidimensional, opulent, full-bodied palate. The acidity seems low because of the huge glycerin levels and prodigious concentration of fruit, but I suspect it is normal in the scheme of oenological measurement. This profound wine requires 3-4 years of cellaring, and should age well for 30-35 years.” R. Parker for TWA, 99 pts. 06/01 2 bottles $500-850 72 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Asili Riserva 2004 (1 bt) A. 73 Elio Grasso Barolo Riserva 2004 Piedmont “The 2004 Barolo Riserva Runcot offers up an intriguing array of licorice, tobacco, spices, plums and prunes. The purity of the fruit here is beyond striking, and the wine shows great intensity as well as superb overall balance. The Runcot saw 45 days of maceration on the skins and spent 36 months in 100% new French oak, all of which it has absorbed with impeccable elegance. I imagine the 2004 Runcot will continue to gain weight in bottle, but even if it doesn’t, it is pretty special today. What a beautiful wine! Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029.” A. Galloni for TWA, 96 pts. 02/10 2 magnums $350-500 74 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 2004 Piedmont A. Galloni for TWA, 95 pts. 12/07 5 bottles $850-1,200 75 Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato 1999 (5 bts) 2000 (1 bt) Piedmont 6 bottles $1,100-1,400 76 Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato 2004 Piedmont “Mascarello’s 2004 Barolo Monprivato is an explosive wine with an almost Pinot-like expression of purity in its fruit. This round, sweet Barolo is extremely primary at this stage, with tons of dense fruit that almost cover the wine’s tannins completely. Subtle overtones of roses and tar develop in the glass, rounding out this majestic wine. Monprivato is one of the world’s very finest values in collectible, age-worthy wine, and the 2004 is another classic in the making. I was blown away by this wine’s sheer balance and harmony, both of which are remarkable considering the wine’s age. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2034.” A. Galloni for TWA, 96 pts. 10/08 2 bottles $300-500

77 Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato 2000 2 bottles $225-300 78 Vietti Barolo Riserva Villero 2006 Piedmont “The last wine of the flight is the outstanding 2006 Barolo Riserva Villero. It literally bursts open to full force intensity and beauty. It’s a mind-blowing interpretation of the often austere and brooding Nebbiolo grape that shows abundant life and vigor. 90 Aubert Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay 2011 Sonoma “The 2011 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard is utterly magnificent. I especially like the way the 2011 is at once unbelievably rich, but not at all heavy. Yellow stone fruit, light floral honey, nectarine and almonds inform the rich, oily finish. The 100% new barrels are imperceptible. All the elements are beautifully in place in this harmonious, voluptuous Chardonnay. This is a great, great showing from Mark Aubert. Anticipated maturity: 20142021.” A. Intensely perfumed and layered – but not at all heavy – the UV-SL has all its elements in perfect balance. Savory herbs, licorice, mint, plums and black cherries all come to life in the glass, but ultimately, the 2011 stands out most for its silkiness, grace and exceptional overall balance. 95 Blankiet Estate Paradise Hill Vineyard 2007 Napa “The 2007 Paradise Hills Vineyard Proprietary Red (60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot) exhibits abundant notes of espresso, chocolate, creme de cassis, blackberry, forest floor and graphite. Full-bodied, dense and rich, it is just beginning to reveal some secondary nuances as well as complexity. There are 940 cases of this big, rich 2007 that should continue to drink well for two decades.” R. Production is 3,300 cases, and the wine tips the scales at 14.7% alcohol. A super-rich, blockbuster effort, it exhibits an opaque purple color in addition to a fabulous bouquet of black fruits, espresso, cocoa, mocha, and flowers. A prodigious red, with low acidity, spectacular concentration, and fabulous purity as well as overall symmetry, it can be drunk now, but promises to last for 2025 years.” R. 99 Peter Michael Au Paradis 2013 Napa “The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis comes from one of their newer acquisitions, formerly known as the Showket Vineyard in the red soil hillsides overlooking the Oakville crossroads. This is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Cabernet Franc. Production is less than 1,530 cases. The 2013 displays loads of roasted meats, licorice, graphite, dusty, loamy soil notes, creamy blackcurrants and blackberries, stunning richness, and a Pauillac-like first-growth cedarwood and crème de cassis notes. The Cabernet Franc from this area grows right next to the famous Maya wine of Dalle Valle. This wine spent all of its time in 100% new Daranjou cooperage, which is not even noticeable in the aromatics or flavors. This full-bodied, modern-day classic should age brilliantly for 30-35 years.” R. A blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, there are 3,600 cases of it. There is a real sense of focused power to the beautifully well-delineated, pure and highly nuanced, multifaceted medium-bodied flavors wrapped in a deep reserve of dry extract before culminating in a breathtakingly persistent finish replete with the hallmark youthful austerity. Like all of the great vintages of this most famous of burgundies, it is almost inconceivably spherical with a Zen-like sense of harmony. I could taste this hours later, and like the ‘10 La Tâche, this is not an especially powerful vintage for Romanée-Conti, but it should be one of the all-time greats in due time. It is a wonderfully plush, expressive wine loaded with aromatic and flavor complexity. Again, the striking purity and singular character of this Bryant Cabernet Sauvignon oozes potential as well as pedigree. This blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 14% Cabernet Franc is one of the finest wines I tasted over the 12 days I spent tasting in Napa Valley in late August and early September. This remarkable 2010 should drink beautifully for 20 or more years.” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 10/13 3 bottles (owc) $950-1,200 172 Colgin IX Estate 2010 Napa “The 2010 IX Estate is another perfect wine. Its opaque purple color is accompanied by copious aromas of blueberries, cassis, pen ink, asphalt, licorice and subtle oak. Full-bodied and rich but light on its feet, this spectacular effort was created from a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. Enjoy this profound wine over the next 25+ years.” R. Parker for TWA, 100 pts. 10/13 3 bottles (owc) $1,000-1,200 173 Hundred Acre Ark 2009 Napa A. It has a very powerful and opulent bouquet that is irresistible, blackcurrant pastilles, cedar, violets and a hint of vanilla pod. The palate is full-bodied, powerful, grippy in the mouth with layers of black fruit laced with tar and white pepper. It is a dense Montrose, heady unlike any other vintage with a spicy and purposeful finish that lingers long in the mouth. Almost knocks you sideways! This is immense.” N. 264 Chateau Malescot St. Exupery 2010 Margaux, 3eme Cru Classe “Gorgeous, flowery, classic Margaux once again, the 2010 Malescot St.-Exupery continues to show virtually no toasty oak, given the impeccable balance and fullbodied, full-throttle style it possesses. Black raspberries, creme de cassis and spring floral notes intermixed with forest floor and a hint of charcoal are followed by an opulent, sexy, full-bodied wine whose tannins have become much sweeter, while the wine is less restrained yet still exuberant and impressive. This is a phenomenal example once again for this estate, harmonious in every sense of style, extraordinarily long, rich and ageworthy. Three to four years of bottle age will do wonders to make it more accessible, but this wine is set for 25-30 years of longevity.” R. 270 Chateau Lynch Bages 1990 Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe u: five into neck, three bottom neck, four very top shoulder “This magnificent Lynch Bages has been drinking well since the day it was released and it continues to go from strength to strength. 08/11 12 bottles (owc) $3,000-4,250

276 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2009 Pessac Leognan “The finest wine ever made by proprietors Daniel and Florence Cathiard, the 2009 SmithHaut-Lafitte exhibits an opaque blue/purple color in addition to a glorious nose of acacia flowers, licorice, charcoal, blueberries, black raspberries, lead pencil shavings and incense. This massive, extraordinarily rich, unctuously textured wine may be the most concentrated effort produced to date, although the 2000, 2005 and 2010 are nearly as prodigious. A gorgeous expression of Pessac-Leognan with sweet tannin, emerging charm and delicacy, and considerable power, depth, richness and authority, it should age effortlessly for 30-40+ years. Bravo!” R. 08/14 6 bottles $475-650

279 Chateau Angelus 2003 “I had this wine from my cellar, as well as at a tasting in Zurich in February of 2015. It is one of the handful of 2003s I bought from the Right Bank of Bordeaux in this vintage. Angelus really nailed the vintage, and has produced a fully mature wine that’s truly strutting its stuff. Dense, bluish/purple, it offers gorgeous notes of espresso roast, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, acacia flowers and a touch of chocolate. It is full-bodied, opulent and seems close to full maturity, as it is evolving quickly. The wine is full-bodied, rich and should be drunk over the next decade.” R. 280 Chateau Clinet 2009 Pomerol “Clinet has been on a hot streak lately and the 2009 appears to be the greatest wine ever made at the estate, surpassing even the late Jean-Michel Arcaute’s monumental 1989. 286 Chateau Troplong Mondot 2008 St. Emilion, Premier Grand Cru Classe (B) “A wine of the vintage candidate in 2008, Troplong Mondot’s offering was produced from yields of 41 hectoliters per hectare and achieved 14.5% natural alcohol. A classic blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it offers copious quantities of blue and black fruits, a full-bodied opulence, sweet tannin and a fabulous texture as well as finish. Already drinking beautifully, it will be even better in 2-5 years and should last for 20 years. A great effort for the vintage, it couldn’t happen to a more deserving proprietor, Christine Valette. A dense dark ruby color is followed by a sexy nose of raspberries, ground pepper, spice box, damp earth, kirsch and dark currants. This special singlevineyard expression shows a beautifully fragrant and floral bouquet that is exactly in line with what this firmly consistent producer strives to achieve. This wine represents one of the most distinctive expressions of varietal voice and that’s what makes it so precious and rare. Sangiovese sings loud with small berry nuances and loud floral impressions of rose, violet and lavender. Its underlying complexity is further enhanced by anise seed, cola and licorice stick. The wine’s texture is soothing soft and silky. This is one for your cellars to age ten years or more.” M. 321 Tenuta dell’Ornellaia Masseto 2006 Tuscany “The wine that most delighted me at this historic tasting of Tuscany’s most iconic wines was the 2006 Masseto. This is a wine of sheer power, bliss, opulence, infinity and sublime seduction. This Merlot-based masterpiece hits all your senses with the grace of a ballerina and the power of a heavyweight. It is steady on its proverbial feet, but it also glides over the palate with a profound sense of elegance, harmony and rhythm. Among the prized vintages of Masseto, including 2001, 2004 and 2007, this edition is my favorite. The wine delivers an extra sense of tightness or firmness at the back that serves to stitch together its fleshy richness and general sumptuousness. The personality is sunny, expansive, articulate and sophisticated. You’ll remember that the 2006 vintage is celebrated for the elegance of its wines. In the coastal Bolgheri appellation, it is also remembered for the power of its wines. You get the best of both worlds with this stunning creation: elegance and power. These traits are particularly well suited to the versatile grape variety at the heart of this Tuscan allrounder. This is a true Renaissance wine.” M. Larner for TWA, 100 pts. 01/16 3 bottles (owc) $2,000-2,600 322 Tenuta dell’Ornellaia Masseto 2004 (1 bt) “The stunning 2004 Masseto (100% Merlot) presents layers of sweet jammy dark fruit and mineral notes that burst forth from the glass with notable length, purity and delineation. It is a decidedly elegant and super-refined Masseto that continues to integrate its 100% new oak well, showing extraordinary class and fine, silky-textured tannins that caress the palate on the long finish. The 2004 will be hard to resist in its youth as it is incredibly delicious even now, yet it promises to develop gracefully to at least age 20. It is a phenomenal effort that is not to be missed. Anticipated maturity: 20112024.” A. Galloni for TWA, 97 pts. 06/07 2005 (1 bt) Tuscany 2 bottles $1,000-1,400 323 Tenuta dell’Ornellaia Masseto 2014 Tuscany 3 bottles (owc) $1,000-1,500

335 Abreu Madrona Ranch 2013 Napa “The 2013 Madrona Ranch hits the magic three-digit score. It is literally a 30- to 45-year wine in itself. It behaves like a ripe, complex first growth Pauillac, with blackberry and crème de cassis, a touch of licorice, black truffle, pen ink and graphite. Incredibly fragrant, extremely full-bodied, with abundant tannin but also enormous fruit extract and richness, it is an amazing wine and a profound effort from Abreu and Grimes.” R. 329 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Madonna del Piano Riserva 2010 Tuscany “Here is a big wine with lofty ambitions and an impactful presentation. The Valdicava 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano hits all the right buttons. The wine shows a profound sense of elegance and poise with subtle berry notes that blend into spice, licorice and tar. Those bright and lively aromatic components fold gracefully within the wine’s tight texture, its sheer power and the silky nature of the tannins. This wine promises a long and steady aging future ahead.” M. Deep garnet-purple colored, it simply sings of freshly crushed blueberries and blackcurrants with wonderfully expressive licorice, dark chocolate, tilled earth and wood smoke nuances plus touches of crushed rocks and black truffles. Medium-bodied, it has an exquisite frame of very fine grained tannins and seamless freshness supporting the wonderfully intense blue and black fruit flavors, finishing with an epically long, mineral-laced finish.” L. 344 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Martha’s Vineyard 1974 Napa u: very top shoulder “I had this wine twice over a period of thirty days, rating it an astounding 99 and 98 points. A monumental California Cabernet Sauvignon, it appears to have approached its plateau of maturity but should easily last for 20-25 more years. There is no rust, amber, or brown to the saturated dark purple color. The spectacular, huge, Mouton-Rothschild-like nose of mint, cassis, lead pencil, and toast is remarkably youthful. Staggeringly concentrated, this fullbodied, super-rich wine possesses moderate tannin, fresh, lively acidity, and a blockbuster, rich, fleshy finish. This is a monumental effort!” R. Parker for TWA, 98 pts. 08/94 1 bottle $1,000-1,500 345 Dominus Estate 2001 “A brilliant showing for Christian Moueix’s well-known Napanook Vineyard, the 2001 Dominus is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot. A classic in the making, this is a flawless, seamless example of elegant, complex Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that possesses a Bordeaux-like personality. This gorgeous, sexy, opulent, dense ruby/ purple-colored wine reveals sweet caramel, mocha, creme de cassis and kirsch notes intermixed with a hint of espresso roast as well as underbrush. Ripe, long and full-bodied with well-integrated tannin, acidity, alcohol and wood, this prodigious 2001 is drinkable now and over the next 25+ years given this estate’s longevity track record. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated in the mouth, it has firm, velvety tannins and plenty of background freshness supporting the generous fruit, finishing long and spicy.” L. Made in the classic, iconic Screaming Eagle style that the original proprietress, Jean Philipps, first showcased in the early 1990s, before the winery was sold to Stan Kroenke, the inky/ purple-colored, seamless 2012 possesses an extraordinary set of aromatics consisting of pure blackcurrant liqueur, licorice, acacia flowers, graphite and a subtle hint of new oak. Full-bodied, opulent and voluptuous, this profound wine is as prodigious as I thought it would be last year when tasted from barrel. It should age effortlessly for 20 or more years.” R.
