ESCAPE THE ORDINARY
Remember when summer meant an endless stretch of carefree days, riding bikes and playing outside until the sun set? Summer meant visiting grandparents and cousins. Vacations to the beach or the mountains. Spend-the-night parties. Sleepover camp. Backyard sprinklers. Lemonade stands. Fireflies. Ice cream trucks. Baseball games. Snow cones. Marco
Polo.
Matinees. That
song.
Learning to drive. First jobs. First dates. Holding
hands.
Good-night
kisses.
Summer fling. Don’t mean a thing. Summer brings freedom. Adventure. Endless possibilities. No worries. Play that song again. Turn up the volume. Summer is calling. It’s a flirty look across a crowded room. It’s a slow dance under the stars. It’s brunching outdoors and happy hour somewhere. It’s front porches and ceiling fans. It’s searching for seashells, sand in between your toes. It’s circling chairs on the beach. It’s drifting off to sleep to the sound of waves crashing on the shore. It’s road trips and new frontiers. A tropical getaway. It’s watching the blazing sun dip below the horizon, all aglow with orange and blue and purple. Summer is a feeling, an attitude, a state of mind. Feel its rhythm. Sway to the music. Savor the taste. Soak up the sun. Allow yourself to let go of to-do lists, deadlines and obligations. Just for a little while. Don’t let summer pass you by. Escape the ordinary. Chase the excitement. Experience the joy. Don’t hold back. Are you there yet? Do you feel it? It’s electrifying!

n a l y D Susan
Susan Norfleet is the face behind skirt! magazine’s social media presence. She’s our resident party planner. She also oversees circulation, making sure that the print magazine gets into your hands each month.
While it’s not officially part of her job description, Susan is the one who keeps the rest of us in the office feeling young. She’s the one who knows the best place to go for Sunday brunch, the best yoga class and the best place for happy hour on the beach. She’s been known to have an occasional side gig as a model for local designers and boutiques. She’s the most likely to one day be famous on Instagram. She exudes an easy, positive energy and people respond to it. Susan considers herself pretty lucky because her position as marketing and circulation manager at skirt! is everything she ever wanted in one job. “I love that it’s so girly,” she says. “We work with all women. It’s a very close office where we can share everything. It’s like working with your girlfriends.” And she says, working in such a creative and supportive environment has taught her to expand her horizons and be more independent. Dylan Roukous started selling sunglasses on the side while still studying marketing at Radford University in Virginia. After he graduated, he launched Nectar eyewear with with his buddy Sean Holmes. Dylan quickly learned there was a market for branded eyewear at a relatively inexpensive price point. You lose them or break them, it’s not a big deal. Just buy some more. You can find the sunglasses, all in the $30 to $50 price range, on their website and in boutiques and surf shops. For every pair of glasses purchased, Nectar donates 33 honeybees to The Bee Cause, which populates bees in hives in schools around the world. The business partners promote Nectar as a sunglasses company that embraces the beach lifestyle. “I’m a big believer that you have to live your brand,” says Dylan. The company’s taglines: Do epic shit and enjoy the sweet life. Made for the free thinkers and risk takers. So, about three years ago, they moved the company to Charleston. “This place is dope. I’m happy we came down, for sure,” he says. HOW THEY MET: One of Susan’s best friends who went to Radford with Dylan introduced the two. A few years later, Dylan noticed Susan on her friend’s SnapChat and the two reconnected. Dylan says he was attracted to Susan’s infectious smile. They went hiking in Crabtree Falls outside of Richmond on their first date. “We just wanted to go on an adventure together, something out of the norm,” Susan recalls. “We were kind of inseparable after that.” And though Susan had never visited Charleston, it had always been on her to-do list. So, when Dylan started talking about relocating the business here, Susan never had any doubts. “It felt like everything was falling into place. It was a no-brainer.” WHY THEY LOVE SUMMER: Dylan and Susan love that the longer days and warmer air of summer encourage them to get out of their daily routines and seek new adventures. They enjoy surfing at the Washout on Folly Beach, going to see bands at The Pour House and walking their black lab, Harvey. “It’s definitely the sweet life down here,” Dylan says.

Caroline Robinson is living the sunny life. She designs a bathing suit line called Citrine Swim inspired by the four years she lived in Hawaii and travels to Indonesia, where the suits are made. Her Mount Pleasant lifestyle boutique Drift is filled with her bikinis in tropical prints and sorbet colors, turquoise and amethyst jewelry (which she also designs), pineapple-motif baby clothes and trucker hats that say “Local.” The store reflects her go-with-the-flow personality and adventurous spirit. She recently started working with Sel De Mer, a showroom in California, which she says is opening a lot of new doors for the swim line. Walk into Channels on King Street, and you’re likely to be greeted with a boisterous, “What’s up!” from coowner Russell Robinson, Caroline’s husband. Russell has a big smile and is one of those guys you feel like you have known forever after just a brief phone call. He says he’s passionate about building relationships. He’s a natural salesman, and it seems genuine. Russell opened Drift with Caroline soon after the two moved back home from Hawaii, where they had lived for four years, soaking up the surf and beach lifestyle. About a year later, Russell seized the opportunity to open a second concept, Channels, on King Street with Angelo Vleck, longtime owner of Parrot Surf Shop in Mount Pleasant. “It’s a dream come true,” Russell says. HOW THEY MET: Russell and Caroline both grew up in Mount Pleasant, but they went to different high schools and different colleges. They met at the former O’Malley’s on King Street. “She was this super adventurous, hippy chick,” he says. “She was what I wanted to be.” When Caroline later moved to Hawaii, it didn’t take too long for Russell to follow. They later got engaged on Morris Island, the place where they had their first kiss. Charleston eventually pulled them back home. They moved back four years ago, got married and channeled their love of all things surf and sand into the the swim line and stores. They started a new adventure when they welcomed a son, Charlie, who is almost 17 months old. WHAT THEY LOVE ABOUT SUMMER: You can find Russell and Caroline at her parent’s house on Isle of Palms and or out on the water surfing and boating. And they don’t hesitate to take Charlie with them when they feel the urge to travel. He accompanied them to Puerto Rico before his first birthday.

LIFE IS FULL O F P O S S I B I L I T I E S O N J U LY 4 BY ANGELA LANKFORD
“O, beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain . . .” Ray Charles’ recording of “America the Beautiful” sang out from the TV as my mom looked over to me and said, “Are you ready to go?” Every Fourth of July, the two of us would sneak out of our family’s annual gathering to head down to the park that sat at the edge of the Potomac River. At the waterfront, when we looked to the north, we could see the spotlights glowing off the magnificent dome of the U.S. Capitol at night, as boats cruised slowly down the river. As Virginia natives, we knew that trying to head into D.C. to see the annual fireworks display meant you’d be surrounded by a sea of people, but at our special waterfront’s edge, it was like we got our own private show. And if you listened hard enough, you could hear the sounds of the U.S. Marine band playing “Stars and Stripes Forever” off in the distance. Growing up, I remember waiting in restless anticipation for the Fourth of July. On the Fourth, everything that I loved came together to create the perfect day, complete with parades, history, fireworks, cookouts, festive music, and apple pie. To me, the Fourth always embodied the true essence of summer and why the hotter months were the best time to be alive during a calendar year. The darkness of winter was gone, the sun was shining in all its glory, and the days lasted longer, bringing you wondrous memories, adventures and firsts. Each year when I stood at the Potomac, watching the fireworks across the river, I’d soak in the wonder. I’d turn to my mom and say: “One day, I’m going to go into D.C. and watch the Capitol Fourth Celebration live.” “Good luck with all the people,” she’d laugh. “I don’t care, I’m doing it! And I’m going to bring my future husband there.” She’d smile, probably thinking I was crazy, but she’d always say: “One day, I hope you can reach that dream.” For me, the Fourth of July inspired a sense of romance. I quickly found that on a Fourth of July night, you could believe that anything was possible as you watch flashes of brightly colored lights circle in the air in unbelievable patterns that can be seen for miles on end. To me, these feelings embodied the very founding ideals of the nation itself. Our founding fathers created a land where we could all truly believe that anything was possible. They created the American spirit on that day in 1776 that inspired the countless dreamers and hard workers that our country sees as uniquely our own. As an African-American girl, I clung to these notions of the American spirit, but at the same time, I found that many saw it as ironic that Fourth of July was my favorite holiday. “Why do you even like the Fourth?” my fellow black classmates would say. “What has this country ever done for you?” When I was younger, I never quite knew the answer to these questions. It was no secret that at one point in our history the country had not allowed African Americans these same dreams and the freedoms that the country was founded on. But, the way that I saw it, many worked hard to grant me those freedoms now. If anything, the Fourth of July celebrated America’s ability to accept and to change. Those words that Ray Charles sung were just as much my own (and his!) as any other American’s, regardless of color, religion, or any other factors that people say divide us. In all honesty, it was the spirit of the Fourth of July and its fireworks that pushed me to keep dreaming and to see myself as more than what some in the world might see because these fireworks were different, just like me. They held meaning and purpose that was present not just in their appearance alone, but in what they stood for — fireworks are a great unifier, after all; they bring the most unlikely of crews together. Whenever I watched a Fourth of July firework fly through the sky as a child, I felt happiness, pride and hope for reasons that I could just never fully explain. As I watched the sky illuminate with colors and light, I always found myself wishing that those good feelings that they brought would just never go away, so I always loved and dreaded the finale. During the fireworks finale, the echoing bombs and high-flying lights blended with intricate patterns that peeked through a sea of smoke, always fascinating and exciting me. But as the last fireworks set off in the distance and the smoke cleared, I’d feel the disappointment set in as the small crowd watching with us in our secret spot walked away. I’d remind myself to try so hard to hold on to those feelings and remember them for a year. I wanted to keep those warm fuzzies, those feelings of hope and pure joy alive forever. I wanted to always remember why each day I walked proud and tall as an American because of the courage and strength of the founders that we celebrated on this day. Now, as an adult, I sit cross-legged next to my husband on a blanket awaiting the Fourth of July fireworks in our town each year. Our first date was on the Fourth of July when we sat and stared up in wonder at the start of what, we didn’t realize then, would be our destiny and the beginnings of a life together. Today, whenever I see a firework on the Fourth, I feel that same giddy anticipation I felt as a child. In hard times, I think of the innocence, warmth and comfort a Fourth of July firework can bring.

D O G D AY S A ND REAL TALK
BY APRIL ZIMMERMAN
Last week I lay in bed at 1a.m. as the first of those spring thunderstorms rolled through; rain throwing itself at my screens and thunder rattling the mirror above my dresser. I raised my blinds the next morning to find bits of debris gummed to the outside of my third-floor windows. Just yesterday, I unfolded my chair at Folly Beach and grazed on a halffull bag of Snyder’s Snaps while my friend Mohammed and I drifted from conversation to sand naps and back again. The waters of the Atlantic may ripple with the lingering chill of winter, but the leafed, serpent-like boughs of the oak just outside of my apartment signal the advent of spring and the short — very short — interval until those blazing dog days. I have called Charleston home for the past six years after a late-20s move from my home state of Maryland, and the Hades heat of this Lowcountry season still throws me into a brief panic just before the temperature hits 90. If you lived in Charleston this past winter you know that summer decided to show up somewhere around February, paying no mind to the official calendar date of June 21. I can count on two hands the number of times I wore close-toed shoes outside of work, and while most women I know dyed their hair darker for the winter months, I chose to lighten my mane every eight weeks in keeping with the balmy weather. Occasionally, I missed the chill and snow, usually around Christmas, but mostly I savored the days that hovered below sweating but above beanies and beefy coats. To be really honest, summer in Charleston is far from my favorite time of the year. The 110 percent humidity turns my hair into something strikingly similar to an ungroomed Chinchilla cat, my community pool feels like stale bathwater, and my patience for Folly Beach traffic ranges from limited to zero. I steer clear of the entire southern chunk of the peninsula due to the barrage of tourist footsteps that swallow Market Street and the swarms that unload from each docked cruise ship. I carry bug spray with 98 percent DEET in my purse at all times and spend two days rabidly chasing mosquitoes around my 800-squarefoot apartment each time I open my front door to set out my trash. Still, I wind up with loads of angry welts and clad myself in maxi dresses for two weeks until my skin returns to normal. Despite all of my pre-summer grumping, once the swelter touches down and unpacks its belongings, I typically beeline through it with the help of extra air conditioning, extra (cold) beer, and a northern getaway to breathe dry air. I’m all about survival and that includes avoiding the

outdoors until sundown unless the activity involves a body of water. I can’t say that my bones have adjusted to the intensity of the season, but eventually, I gather up my endurance and power through with a cooler approach. The other night, I drove over the James Island connector after meeting a few friends downtown, A/C cranked, sunroof cracked, and the early Lord Huron album on repeat. To my left, the moon brewed low over the Ashley River, sending bends of reflective glow across the current in the same strange hue as my car’s dash lights. The night climbed slower and the heavy tang of pluff mud rose up from the swelling marsh. “And the seasons change in the blink of an eye…” Even in the year-round thermal spells of the Southeast, the transfer of seasons is unmistakable to the local eye, and every year I feel them rouse in my veins, as if the pages of my own storybook are rolling over into a new chapter. Within the last year, I encountered a sizable shift in my life. My writing grew, my relationships deepened, and reawakened passion and hope filled the pits of loss deep in my gut. This season, more than ever, I want to pay attention. To the bouquets of wood fire and jasmine that sweeten the evenings. To the fireworks as they pop over the Cooper River on the Fourth of July. To the pelicans that skim the waves of the incoming tide at Folly Beach County Park. This charming coastal city is developing rapidly. Now, when I wait out a red light at the corner of Spring Street and Lockwood, the ground under me shudders from nearby construction, and walls of concrete and pillars of steel blot out the river view. Hotel after hotel takes the place of vacant downtown realty, and commonplace road closures mark attempts to accommodate the vast number of newcomers. People grow. Places grow. Inevitably. The afternoon sweats at 82 degrees today, and later I’ll stroll over to Folly to watch the 8 p.m. sun as it pulls away from the sea and down into the western horizon. I don’t know if Charleston will be my forever home, but while it’s my for-now home, I want to take notice of the time I spend as an islander in this sea-level community. It may not look exactly like the city I moved to six years ago but, to be fair, I don’t look the same either. And while I still dread the thick months of June through August, I resolve to write this year’s chapter a little slower, with more intention and a fresher attitude. But a few more margaritas and a few more braless days wouldn’t hurt either.

ZESTY GALS IN THE SW I M S U I T D E PA RT M E N T B Y C AT H Y A D A M S
Yea, though I walk through the valley of Lycra, I will fear no French cuts. I am shopping with my friend Jeanene for a swimsuit because it’s the end of the season when everything is marked down, the only time I will allow myself such a luxury. She holds up a jazzy emerald-green number with sturdy looking elastic around the legs. I try it on in the dressing room under horrid fluorescent lights that illuminate every hair I missed shaving around my knees. I step out to show Jeanene. “What do you think?” “Where are your boobs?” she asks. “Right where God put them,” I snap back. I look in the mirror and am horrified to see they have disappeared, completely. If not for my well-rounded behind, I would look like a 12-year-old Swedish boy. Jeanene tosses in a black suit with silver buckles on each shoulder. Against my school-glue-colored skin, the black makes me look as if I’ve been bitten by vampires. “It shows up the spider veins around my knees,” I shout through the door. “I’d have to put spackling on my legs.” Next is a red suit with a diamond pattern cut in the abdomen. It has ample padding in the bra, and the leg cuts come down just far enough to cover two-thirds of my stretch marks. If I stand on my toes, hold my head up, suck in my stomach, twist my upper body in a 180-degree pivot, arch my back, and stay that way, I am the picture of a supermodel. By the time I regain consciousness, Jeanene has found a dark-pink suit with a built-in bra shelf that is so stalwart I could hide my car keys and tanning lotion in there. Snapping the shoulder straps over my arms, I am crestfallen. I could store an extra beach towel in those cups. I fluff them out into two perfect cones. Maybe no one will notice. I step out to show Jeanene, and she pokes her fingers at my mostly air-filled cups leaving indentations in the fabric and in my pride. “Honey, you can’t park Volkswagens in parking spaces built for SUVs.” “I could put in socks,” I say. “And the first time you jump into the water it’ll look like somebody emptied their gym bag in the pool.” Why am I being so ridiculous about buying a swimsuit? I should just be like my mothers and grandmother before me and wear one of those skirted polyester things that looks like the short dresses with sea horses chasing one another around the front. Every woman has a photo of her aunt or mother splashing happily in the water with her children. That photo likely has a small child or a blow-up pool toy strategically placed in front of her thighs, but these women always look jubilant to be in the water without an obsessive thought as to how they compare with the unrealistic fantasy creatures in swimsuit ads. I am positive that those so-called women are created in test laboratories and are made of a space-age material molecularly similar to margarine. If you took one of these “models” out of her controlled environment and dipped her in a swimming pool, she would melt like the wicked witch from “The Wizard of Oz.” I am a 51-year-old real woman with a shopping list of flaws. In my mind they are rated and cross-referenced in order of importance, size and potential for cure through exercise. I am ashamed at my need for a swimsuit that makes me look like I haven’t looked in 15 years. I have allowed myself to be sucked into the game once again, and I am old enough and smart enough to know better. I try on one last suit with my eyes closed repeating this mantra to myself: I am beautiful in this suit. I am beautiful in this suit. No. I stop a moment and change my mind. I am not falling for this anymore. I am beautiful in any suit I choose. I open one eye in the mirror and am amazed at what I see. Everything sits in close proximity to where it was when I was born with it. The dimpled fat and spider veins are still there, a proud testament to the miles my real woman body has traveled. “Now this is a swimsuit for swimming,” I say. I let myself think for a moment what it will be like to shop for a swimsuit again when I am 60, and I wear that glorious skirted suit with sea horses proudly.

june/julyw2017 skirt!magazine
SAY CHEESE
We can’t get enough of this pimento cheese recipe our editor Shelley’s cousin Susan has perfected after years of beach trips and tailgates. Combine four cups shredded cheddar cheese (we suggest using two cups of cheddar and two cups of Velveeta shredded cheese), four ounces diced pimentos, two cups of Duke’s Mayonnaise (of course), salt and pepper to taste, and a pinch of sugar. Stir well. Best if made the day before serving.
FRESH OFF THE BOAT
Four boat captains gather to sell the fresh crabs, shrimp and other seafood that they caught earlier that day at Shem Creek Fisheries Seafood Market, 9 a.m. to noon, or when it sells out, at Moultrie Middle School Pavilion in Mount Pleasant. We also love Huff ’s Seafood on Folly Road in James Island.
TIP: Soak a paper towel in vegetable oil and fold in half twice. Hold with tongs and rub it over your grill rack prior to placing your food to make sure it doesn’t stick.
TASTE THE RAINBOW
Combine colorful seasonal fruits and veggies to create a palette for your palate.
BUTTER ME UP
Grill your corn in the husks for the perfect tenderness and a built-in handle. Place fresh corn in the husk directly on rack and turn occasionally for about 15 minutes until it reaches desired tenderness. After the corn cools, pull back the husk and remove the silk. Roll in flavored butter (preferably barbecue).
HOT, HOT, HOT!
Allow your grill to get nice and hot for 15 to 25 minutes prior to cooking. Not only does preheating kill off bacteria, but the hot temps will sear your food on contact, keeping the inside nice and moist and giving your meal that delicious caramelized flavor.
TIP: According to the American Institute for Cancer Research, marinating poultry, fish and red meat can significantly reduce the amount of potentially harmful carcinogens.
PUT A STICK IN IT
Slice a fresh cantaloupe in cubes. Wrap each cube with a thin slice of prosciutto. Stick with a festive toothpick and voila!
TIP: A quick and safe way to make a kebab: Use a half an onion facing outside up as a skewer cushion. Place protein and veggies on top of the onion and stab through to skewer.
HERE COMES THE SUN
Remember sun tea? Try this recipe from the folks at Charleston Tea Plantation. It’s perfect parts nostalgic and refreshing. Place tea bags in a large glass container and add water, using eight tea bags per gallon of water. Try Charleston’s Tea Plantation Plantation Peach or Rockville Raspberry. Cover the container and place it in the sun. Wait for the tea to steep. It will take at least two to three hours in the sun, depending on the type of tea and the temperature outside. Keep checking to see when the tea is desired color and flavor. Add sugar, lemon, honey or mint. Pour over ice and enjoy! skirt!magazine june/julyw2017

How to
MAKE your
Summer
Sizzle WITH
FROZEN TREATS You probably already noticed that frozen rosé and popsicles infused with alcohol, or poptails, are, uh, popping up all over your Instagram feed, a sure sign it’s summertime! Why not experiment with making your own frozen flavors at home? Try non-alcoholic flavors for the kids and boozy pops for adults. Think mimosas, mojitos and spiked lemonade. Or simply put fresh fruit and some coconut water in the blender, pour into ice molds and freeze. Then, throw some burgers on the grill, turn on some music and invite your friends over to try out your concoctions.
YES WAY, FROSÉ!
For homemade frosé, use your favorite bold, full-flavored rosé because it gets diluted when you freeze it. Or for truly special occasions, try your favorite Prosecco instead. Cheers!
LOOKS FISHY
Zoku makes cute, fish-shaped ice pop molds. The sticks reveal funny “skeletons” once you eat the frozen pop.
COLD BREW COFFEE — ON A STICK!
Need a different type of buzz? Trader Joe’s recently introduced Cold Brew Latte Dessert Bars!
PASS THE POPTAILS
For homemade Popsicles, freeze your favorite mixture in Zipzicle ice pop molds, which remind us of the classic Fla-Vor-Ice pops you had stored in your freezer when you were a kid.To serve, put the frozen sticks in colorful tin buckets filled with ice.

LOOK. FEEL. BE. BEAUTY HEALTH Achieve that natural summer glow — without damaging your skin: PROTECT YOUR SKIN Go beyond sunscreen with SPF clothing, towels and hats. Mott50, available at The Skinny Dip, offers stylish options with SPF 50, as does Athleta at Mount Pleasant Towne Center. Charleston-based Zags makes colorful, lightweight blankets and wraps with SPF 50. OUCH! STILL GOT BURNED? Soothe a sunburn with this cooling DIY treatment: Squeeze aloe into fun-shaped ice cube trays. Freeze overnight. Rub on to red skin for instant relief. You also can use yogurt to soothe sunburned skin. GET A SUN-KISSED GLOW WITHOUT THE SKIN DAMAGE Slather on the sunscreen, especially while you’re at the beach or by the pool, but still show off bronze skin when you’re out on the town later with sunless tanners. There’s a hot debate in our office over which is better: Tan Towels or St. Tropez, Classic Bronzing Mousse. OOPS! APPLIED TOO MUCH? Buff away excess color with a DIY scrub of water and baking soda. Leave on your skin for at least 10 minutes and then rinse with warm water.
HEALTH We love the fresh fruit and vegetables that are in season during the summer in the South. FARMERS MARKET SMOOTHIE Blackberries and blueberries, both good sources of vitamin C and fiber, are perfect for morning smoothies. Add a banana, a scoop of almond butter, a handful of kale or spinach, and sprinkle in some chia seeds for a breakfast you can take on the go. A SWEET WATER SOURCE Stay hydrated with slices of watermelon. Did you know they are 92 percent water? Don’t forget to have a contest to see who can spit the seeds the farthest. WE ALL SCREAM FOR HOMEMADE PEACH ICE CREAM! We say ice cream is a good source of calcium. Use fresh peaches to make your own and you get some vitamin C and fiber. Plus, you can use natural ingredients and control the amount of sugar you use.
Homemade PEACH ICE CREAM
YOU WILL NEED:
5 quarts of mashed peaches Juice from 5 lemons 1 quart of whipped cream 1 tablespoon almond flavoring 1 cup sugar DIRECTIONS:
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Pour mixture into freezer canister of ice cream maker and freeze according to instructions. For more peach recipes, visit The South Carolina Peach Council website at www.scpeach.org.
BEAUTY HEALTH FITNESS Some like it hot. Several Charleston yoga studios specialize in hot yoga. Devotees say the heat helps improve flexibility and increases the number of calories burned. REDUX YOGA All classes are heated to 105 degrees with 35 percent humidity. The studio’s classes include hot flow, hot power and 26 & 2, or Bikram yoga. CHARLESTON POWER YOGA The power vinyasa and power hour classes are heated to 90 degrees. URBAN YOGA The yoga studio features infrared radiant heat that simulates heat from the sun. Try the candlelight vinyasa flow class where the room is heated to 85 degrees and candlelight provides a relaxing environment to wind down at the end of the day.
Some like it cold. Use these accessories to keep your cool during and after a workout. COLUMBIA’S COOLHEAD BALLCAP This cap does triple duty by keeping your hair out of your face, the sun out of your eyes, and your body from getting too hot with Omni-Freeze ZERO technology, which speeds up the wicking process and feels cool next to your skin. MISSION ENDURACOOL INSTANT COOLING TOWEL Soak in water, wring out and snap to activate the cooling properties of this sports towel.

Changing What's Possible Innovation is at the core of everything we do. Hundreds of scientists here are discovering solutions that are often the first of their kind in the world. We are teaching the next generation of nurses, doctors, therapists, technicians and health care leaders who will provide advanced health care for years to come – and develop the information systems and sustainable business models that tackle population health and health disparities. We are committed to delivering access to the best medicine available through MUSC Health, the state’s only NCI-designated cancer center, and a nationally recognized children’s hospital. MUSC also serves patients through its more than 100 outreach sites – community-based health centers, a robust telehealth network and partnerships with other health systems. That’s how you change what’s possible.
