ESCAPE THE ORDINARY

Summer is a sexy, coconut-flavored, sandy, sweat-covered, sunburned, dripping popsicle, bare skinned, surf’s up, easy living, blue sky, afternoon thunderstorm, hazy contradiction. We love you, late sunsets, beaches, bonfires, sea breezes, salt spray, fireflies, open windows, linen and cotton, vitamin D, flip flops, hammocks, teeny bikinis, picnics and parades, and the marsh perfume blanketing muggy mornings. We hate you, bugs and bites, sweat down our back, 98 degrees in the shade, sandy sandwiches, sunburns, teeny bikinis, hot car interiors, sticky hands, thighs chafing, broken air conditioners, and making our kids go to bed while it’s still light outside. But our love for the Coppertone billboard version of summer outweighs all the calamine lotion and aloe in the world. We wait so long for these months of slow, lazy hours, time enough to breeze through our beach reads, these back porches, these barbecues, these cocktail umbrella drinks, these tanned shoulders. It’s a season for a reason, so make every single steamy day the one you’ll remember in December. Bravely bare your winter-white skin, shake out the beach blankets, clean the grills, uncover the pools, slather on the SPF, and give it all up to the sunny days of summer.
