Can Men and Women only be Friends?

Earlier, this question has been raised by many people, though the answer has always been in the frame of doubt. However, it has lead to the birth of a new keyword called as Friend-zoned! You must have heard this word before. Many movies come up with this single concept. A man dresses up in the best possible way taking care of his attire, self-grooming and even style of men’s underwear because the girl suddenly calls him for a dinner.

While the hungry girl concentrates more on the menu card of the restaurant because all she is interested in having a yummy chicken.

I don't know whether if it's the lack of communication or anything else that leads to this confusion, but men do get the wrong notion about their friendship with girls. In most cases, women consider their male mates as friends, but the guys start developing feeling for them with the hope that she would be feeling the same way for him. How has this feeling come into an existence? Read on to find out.

History

Earlier, in the human history, the friendship defined by a boy was he is my best friend, while the girl would say she is my best friend. The cross friendship was very rare. Later in the 19th and nearly 20th centuries, the cross-sex friendships came into the frame. As more people started becoming friends, they had to ultimately figure out on how to have relationships with each other that weren’t romantic or sexual. Till now, people are facing the same issue.

Experimental Research

To research upon this, the researchers at the University of Wisconsin brought 88 pairs of cross-sex friends into a lab. The pairs had to give an assurance that they would not discuss the questions with each other after leaving the lab. They were then separated and tested upon a series of questions to estimate their feelings towards their opposite sex.

Women revealed that they were not attracted to their male friends as they saw the relationship as strictly platonic. However, guys had the feelings for girls. They also believed that the feelings would be reciprocated someday or the other. With confusing answers from each one of them, the researchers came to a conclusion that cross-sex relationships are typically more complicated than same-sex ones as they lack in communication and transparency.

So, when the problem lies in trust or communication I guess, people should sit down and talk before taking things to be granted. It's not that girls can't afford things like dinner or a dress. We just need a companion to assist us because not all of us are of the girly types. We just don't go with the kitty gang as we prefer to be away from the unwanted gossips and drama. We are not a fan of pink color, YES! We do exist.
