PUBLISHERS
NOTE Hello SKORCH’ettes! So, it’s 2010 and, it makes me think, what is my word for the year? The definition of what was going through my brain when the clock struck midnight? GRATITDUE.
I’m grateful for my husband, my child, my friends and family, and my SKORCH family- YOU. I’m thankful for the models, stylists, and photographers donating their time to this issue, and so many issues before, for SKORCH. It truly takes an army to make SKORCH Magazine what it isand that army is led by our new Editor-In-Chief Charleigh “Cali” Lee. Under her direction, the team has nearly doubled in size. We now have fashion editors all over the world including Australia, France and Indonesia. It boggles my mind the reach we now have on a global level. Ladies from the UK to Indonesia to Canada and Puerto Rico write thanking us for being here for them. We really have become the fashion companion of thousands upon thousands of SKORCH readers. As we look into this year and what it holds for SKORCH Magazine, let’s just say the sky is the limit and we aren’t stopping there. The future of this magazine depends on our ingenuity in leading the digital magazine revolution. We have been signed by the largest digital publication distributor in the world, Zinio. SKORCH is the first plus size fashion magazine to sign with them, meaning we are on digital newsstands next to Vogue, Glamour, LouLou and more. It’s truly a dream come true. Being sold on barnesandnoble.com is huge, and I never thought I would say those words - but yes, it’s true. SKORCH is proud to be apart of the “GO GREEN” effort in digital publishing, for the plus size community. We are a no-paper magazine and pledge in-kind donations to non-profits that benefit GREEN efforts.
This picture was taken when hosting my New Year’s Eve party in downtown Portland, OR, for my company KaneKreative www.kanekreative. com. The event was SOLD OUT! So excited! We were at Velvet Lounge, the same lounge where our covergirl did her fashion shoot for Curvy Girl Clothing! It’s so luscious and amazing, I just love that place. If you are ever in Portland, visit Velvet at 903 NW Everett. Thank you to Torrid for my dress! It was the “Bandage Dress” in black. I absolutely loved it and felt like a million dollars! So, go visit your local Torrid store and go online to www.torrid.com and shop your heart out! They are great people and I super heart them.
So thank you again for subscribing, and enjoy this amazing issue full of trendy plus fashion and more. Shout out to Kelsey Olson, our covergirl for January, who traveled to Portland for our cover and fashion spread sponsored by Curvy Girl Clothing. And, huge props to Adrian Adel who photographed Kelsey’s spread, and my feature on “Being the best version of you” for 2010. It was so fun to get to the gym and get some working out in! Happy New Year! And, cheers to the ladies who live life SKORCH’n, you are my inspiration. XOXO, Jessica
“this is my version of every Molly ringwald movie...modern vintage...only i’d pick Ducky!!! I don’t really dress up or down...I’d wear this to a funeral or a wedding or to some guy’s house to “watch movies”...Rules are for pansies. Just throw on a vintage inspired dress (I have dozens from Re-dress) a pair of boots (ankle 80’s or used cowboys) then a cropped leather jacket (perhaps from Beth Dittos new line) Say “kiss my ass” a lot” love, nati
