WARRIORS by cali ann lee skorch director of pr
After numerous attempts to become skinny and stay skinny which resulted to eating disorders (Stacy suffered from Anorexia-Bulimia for 7 months (read her story here), while Danah got obsessed with calorie counting and over exercising), the twins finally learned how to accept the way their bodies were meant to be--voluptuous and chunky. Coming from a family with fat genes, they both realized there’s no point in forcing their bodies to be something that will never be. Their commitment towards self-love combined with the exhaustion from the world full of corrupt views on body image sparked ideas into writing about body appreciation. Seeing plus size models from the US and Europe, and wonderful fat positive websites finally urged the sisters to sit on their thinking chairs and start typing to promote this body revolution in their wonderful motherland, the Philippines. WHAT IS THE PLUMP PINAY? The Plump Pinay is our baby! It's our niche on the web where we put out our ideas and share our beliefs to hopefully inspire women to finally accept themselves for what they truly are. Our bodies are meant to be different from everyone else's, and the media isn't clearly helping in spreading this message. In fact, it's brain washing women that there is ONLY 1 standard to be considered beautiful which is absolutely false. We believe it's our responsibility to research and educate women on media literacy and body love. :)
HAVE EITHER OF YOU EVER BEEN TOLD YOU'RE NOT PLUS SIZE ENOUGH? WHAT IS YOUR RESPONSE TO THAT? Yes, we have! Well people will always have different opinions. Personally we know we're plus size here in the country, we are bigger and taller than the average Filipina and that alone is enough to put on the plus-size category. The average Filipina stands 4 feet and 11 inches to 5 feet and 2 inches, weighing around 100-140 lbs. We're both 5 feet and 7 and a half inches tall, weighing between 170 - 180 lbs. :)
ANY HIGHLIGHTS YOU WANT TO SHARE WHY DID YOU START TPP AND WHY IS IT FROM 2011? IMPORTANT TO YOU? Danah: Philippine's Top Model Sarah We started it because we believe it's time Meier discovered our blog and loved it so to break the stereotypes on fat bodies in much, she wrote a personal essay for us general. It's time to expose the truth on to feature in it! I was also contacted by a harmful media messages that women for new plus-size brand to model for them! It ages have embraced as truth, which is re- wasmy first ramp gig ever! ally not. Stacy: Our blog reaching more and more women is really a highlight for me. We just Stacy: Personally, after going through really want more women to know about Anorexia-Bulimia (I was binging and purg- our advocacy for them to realize their ing at least 3 times a day, 6 at most for 7 beauty and worth!!! Another highlight months) and seeing how it broke the heart is designing our own swimwear with a of my family, I realized it was not worth famous local brand (to be launched soon!) it. Inflicting that kind of disease over my and being a Brand Ambassador of many body just because I've believed the lie of brands like Forever 21 Plus, Azta Urban Sathe media that you will never be beautiful lon (our favorite salon!), and Flawless Face if you're not skinny just suddenly became and Body Clinic. :) a very shallow and stupid idea to me. I decided that through the blog, I can help WHAT’S IN STORE FOR YOU LADIES IN women know that there is more to them 2012? than how they appear, and that we all are This year is gonna be a blast! We’ll be uniquely beautiful and we do not need to releasing our swimwear which we persontrust the media's standards. Most are just ally designed ourselves. :) Hopefully more doing it to capitalize on women's insecuri- projects. We want to speak to students ties. Absolutely horrible. about media literacy and body acceptance. This magazine feature is also a huge huge deal for us :) CONTINUED >> FEB 2012 EXCLUSIVE \ PG13 \ © SKORCHMAG.COM

WHAT AND WHO ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT? Danah: I am passionate about my dancing. I love love love dancing. It makes me feel great about my body and my self. I'm passionate about my family. They really are such awesome supporters and I wouldn't want to have anyone else around me all the time but them. :) Stacy: Currently, I'm into SCUBA diving. I've always wanted to be a mermaid and being an open water diver kinda' makes me feel like I'm officially one! HAHA! :) I'm also very passionate about our blog and our advocacy, and our very supportive readers. :) WHAT DRIVES EACH OF YOU TO INSPIRE WOMEN? Danah: The fact that women are tormenting themselves and hating their bodies because of stupid lies presented by the media is enough to fuel me to keep doing what we do. Stacy: The fact that women subject themselves to dangerous diets or even eating disorders just because they feel like the only way they can attract or get loved by people is through the way they look. It's so superficial. I want more women to know that there are worth far more than how they look, and their weight does not determine their worth. The thought of empowering women and making them realize how precious and special each of them are drives me to inspire more women. WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE DESIGNERS? Danah: I love shoe designers. I marvel at their works and wonder how the heck they come up with those masterpieces. I like Loubotin and Betsy Johnson! Stacy: I'm not really very particular about brands/designers. :) I can shop anywhere and if I like it and I can afford it, then I'll buy it! :)
ANYONE IN THE INDUSTRY WHO INSPIRES YOU TO KEEP DOING WHAT YOU LOVE, SUPPORTING AND MOTIVATING WOMEN TO LOVE EVERY INCH OF THEMSELVES? Danah: Plus-size models Tara Lynn, Denise Bidot and Ashley Graham are my favorites! I absolutely take inspiration from them with how they carry their bodies with so much confidence and power. Also, Team Skorch and PlusMag for creating such wonderful publications for our demographic. It makes us feel important and that we also belong in the fashion scene. Stacy: Plus size models Clementine Desseux, Tara Lynn, Denise Bidot, Ashley Graham, and Johanna Dray are my idols (THEY'RE ALL SO STUNNING) and some day I'd love to do a photoshoot with them! A lot of fatshion bloggers also inspire me when it comes to fashion and style. :) Beth Ditto's badassness is also very refreshing and liberating! I like her. :) Lesley Kinzel and Frances of corpulent. wordpress.com are also people I look up to because they're very passionate about fat/ body issues and they're really fighting for it. ANYTHING YOU WANT TO SHARE WITH OUR READERS? Danah: EMBRACE YOUR BODY. LOVE IT. IT'S THE ONLY ONE YOU'VE GOT. How you treat and see yourself will be th benchmark of how others will treat and see you. Stacy: You are beautiful. You are worthy. You do not have to believe the lies of the media and you do not have to conform yourself to their stupid, stereotypical standards. BE YOURSELF, BECAUSE THERE'S NO OTHER PERSON WHO CAN DO A GREAT JOB AT BEING YOU THAN YOU . :) Be strong, and be confident because it's waaaaay sexier than being an insecure person who's always moping around. EXUDE POSITIVITY AND HAPPINESS ALL THE TIME. People will be drawn to you for it. :)
