selected works of zuzanna skwarlo_2013-2018

This project aims to create physical ambience for escapism, that can take place in a variety of ways. In moderation it can be a healthy habit, that in times of fast pace of life, hectic schedules and information overload, can help us keep our sanity. The building tries to intertwine reality with fantasy in a form of a new culture house – a public institution of our time. One can find here set of binary architectural qualities: intimate and overwhelming spaces, solemn and lively, warm light and blue light, open perspectives and framed views…a sequence of spaces for individualistic, introvert, spiritual escapes, as well as rooms for extrovert activities, places for people to gather and reconnect in an analogue way, tête-àtête, in times of prevailing digital communication.

Residential part consist of three different towers, presenting verious models of habitation - microhousing with common living spaces, three-bedroom shared apartments and stacked townhouses. Green layer is a public park, place for urban gardening and plots with soil remediating plants. Ground floor is the production part with co-working spaces, workshops etc.

eco collective_organic food production program: food production + culture location: Bari, Italy type: individual project year: sept-oct 2016

09

selected works of zuzanna skwarlo_2013-2018

This project aims to implement swedish simplicity, design and approach towards compact use of space, combined with implementing a social strategy of sharing, originated in israeli phenomena called ‘kibbutz’ onto an italian ground, accurately a ‘barese’ reality and lifestyle. The site is located in the south of Bari, facing the Adriatic Sea and bordering a ‘lama’ - dry riverbed periodically flooded. Continuous urbanization and ‘turistification’ of the waterfront excludes the local community and cuts off large portions of land. Hence this project aims to restore the urban continuity, and through architectural renovation and landscaping, create a place for gathering, farming and showcasing local products and lifestyle.

acupuncture_catalysts for urban regeneration program: leisure, sports, culture location: Bari, Italy type: group project year: oct-dec 2016

selected works of zuzanna skwarlo_2013-2018

The project is based on the metaphor of acupuncture practice to firstly find and pin crucial points in the city in order to relieve the local pain and stress in the built environment. The strategy is based on small-scale interventions in multiple sites that due to synergic reaction create a network of positive change. Overtime, the cured nervous system of Bari could provide a healthy background for future growth of urban fabric and movement. Small scale interventions have simple, modular structure and offer a variety of use. Combining them differently into specific clusters allows for fixing certain urban tensions. They also create new focal points, places to gather. It may help generating a bottom-up processes in contrary to the current top-down planning.

megafosa_vision for a new city program: urban development location: Hemfosa, Sweden type: group project year: oct - dec 2017

13

selected works of zuzanna skwarlo_2013-2018

The Swedish government recently decided that nine new towns should be built around the country - smart, sustainable and with affordable housing. This gave a point of departure for an urban design. However, instead of creating nine, small, satellite cities, we decided to propose a one, large city for 200 000 inhabitants. The city is located in todays Hemfosa - small village located between Stockholm and Nynäshamn, connected via commuter train. In order to initiate inhabitation of Megafosa, necessary infrastructure shuld be provide in parallell to the establishment of a CLT factory which would help establihing the new city. A local food market and a civic center will form a meeting point for old and new residents and plant the seed of a cooperative urban farming culture.

sport centre_ursvik community club

This project is a new, visionary sport and leisure public club for growing community of Ursvik. The project is located near the local football pitch, a school, a park and recreational areas. The club consists of two buildings, whose forms take inspiration from smooth movements observed in dance or nature. Their triangular footprint derive from the plot conditions.

program: urban development location: Hemfosa, Sweden type: group project year: sept-oct 2017

Positioning of the volumes creates the street frontage and mitigates the noises from the road. Volumes open up towards the football field and create a new public space. The new centre hosts sports facilites and amenities such as bouldering wall and yoga space, cafeteria, meeting rooms for football teams, changing cabins, lockers, toilets, showers and sauna zone.

17

selected works of zuzanna skwarlo_2013-2018

The concept of the building was to fill a gap between two blocks alongside the road leading to the KTH campus and create a venue for architecture faculty for exhibitions, project presentations, critiques, group works and other activities. The form is based on a L-shape block, positioned upside-down, in order to allow the free movement beneath the cantilevered part. It is located above the vivid connection of the train and subway. Therefore it serves as a welcoming gate for those arriving to KTH from that direction. The back of the structure touches the blind wall of a residential building. In the ground floor there is a food kiosque. Two first floors are compact. Exhibition space on the top floor is accentuated. The raw face of exposed concrete is juxtaposed with warm interior finished with wood.

white ribbon_urban furniture

This project is a small scale architectural intervention that focused on a small, but frequently visited park in the middle of the town, where a group of red sculptures is placed. The new furniture is a white, horizontal ribbon, meandering through greenery, juxtaposed with red, vertical elements. The ribbon is a symbol of a beauty and connection, therefore it illustrates the idea of linking the artworks alltogether.

program: bench location: park in Elblag, Poland type: individual project year: april 2014

The aim of that project was to create a dialogue between the old and the new, and give a space for a moment of silence in busy life and a place for resting for those who trespase the park in rush. The new urban furniture is a bench, bicycle rack, information spot and an element illuminating the park. The structure gently descend where the ribbon crosses the pathways.

selected works of zuzanna skwarlo_2013-2018

This project is a new student dormitory located in a residential area adjacent to the hospital and medical university campus. The concept was to create a residence with small private rooms and shift the focus on the common spaces, for a better integration of students. Rooms are inspired by microhousing projects, where all living needs are met in a compact room. There are two types-with bathroom in the room, and two rooms sharing one bathroom. Common spaces include open kitches and dining areas, relaxing spaces, leisure zoones, indoor gym and a garden with a barbecue area and outdoor common spaces. The objective of the thesis was not only to design a student residence, but also to prepare all necessary drawings for a construction project.

cultural market_san basilio community centre program: exhibitions, food market location: San Basilio, Rome, Italy type: individual project year: sept-dec 2013

25

selected works of zuzanna skwarlo_2013-2018

This project was a master plan for a San Basilio neighbourhood of Rome, that was done by a group of four students. The concept was to create a clear visual and spatial connection between new and existing focal points of the area, as well as revitalise and enlarge the green spaces by creating a park, urban farming lots, green alleys and recreational meadow. Further on each student did an individual project for: new hospital, elderly house, market place and a safe house for women. In the project of a market place I created a plaza with an open-air wooden market stalls and a building with a cultural program. Mixing of uses allows for a 24/7 vivid use of space, and not only when the foodmarket was taking place. In the building there is a cafeteria, cinema, and an exhibition space.

selected works of zuzanna skwarlo_2013-2018

This work was created during my part-time job at Stadion Arkitekter, between March and July 2017. Among other projects, I have participated in the concept phase of a building renovation and a new school for Ekensbergsskolan. The old building was to be refurbished, enlarged and modernized. The new school is locaded on the same site, facing the water. The building is L-shaped, in timber construction, dedicated for younger pupils. I have worked on this project in Revit, as well as AutoCAD for construction drawings. I was also making physical models of the site, volumes and closer zoom-in of a new roof structure.
