ALDGATE

ALREADY A DYNAMIC AND THRIVING NEIGHBOURHOOD, ALDGATE IS TRANSFORMING INTO LONDON’S MOST EXCITING AREA TO LIVE, WORK AND SPEND TIME.

the world’s leading financial and business districts needs little introduction; its success underlined

by its ever-changing skyline. However as impressive as all its growth upwards is, more significant is its expansion eastwards. The eastern ward of The City of London, as denoted by its crest bearing griffin boundary marker, Aldgate is now one of the capital’s fastest growing districts. Recognised as an area of significant opportunity, the ambitious transformation plans are harnessing the attributes of the area’s unique location to create a new and vibrant neighbourhood. In addition

to being a natural expansion area for The City of London, the masterplan for Aldgate is also capitalising on the area’s cultural and creative credentials. With Old Street to its north, Aldgate is part of the fast-developing Tech City, which includes London’s only Enterprise Zone. As such it’s a regeneration priority for London’s Mayor and the Greater London Authority. By supporting new emerging sectors and the area’s cultural and historic narrative, as well as the traditional financial industries, Aldgate will avoid just being an office overspill for The City. It will evolve to be a dynamic environment that’s one of the most exciting places to live, work and spend time.

Where commerce meets culture, Aldgate’s unrivalled location between The City and East London’s creative quarter makes it a unique development location.

6 MINUTE WALK - 0.4 MILES* THE TOWER OF LONDON

THE TOWER OF LONDON’S RICH HISTORY TELLS THE STORY OF ALL ENGLAND.

A

ldgate is one of the oldest districts of London. From the 2nd to the 18th Century, part of it was in fact contained within London’s original city walls. These were dismantled in the 18th Century,

with the gate that gave Aldgate its name being finally removed in 1761. The arguments about whether Aldgate means Old Gate or All Gate are still to be settled by historians however.

The site of countless sieges and embattled kings, as well as interning Guy Fawkes and The Krays, The Tower of London’s history is rich and bloody. The area’s significance in London’s history aside from being one of the capital’s gateways is that it’s home to Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress, The Tower of London. Founded in 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest of England, The Tower of London’s rich history tells the story of all England. Today alongside Tower Bridge, it’s one of the capital’s most iconic features and embodies London’s ability to cherish its heritage yet continually move forward.
