Baba Ras D
The Harambee Experience
Libations is defined as a Drink poured out as an offering, tribute, and with reference of gratitude unto an Ancestor, and or Deity. Libations are typically poured with Gin, however Water is an acceptable and common substitute. Libations is the Process of Honoring Our Collective LEGACY OF ANCESTRAL EXCELLENCE, while also activating Our Collective Connection with the Divine. Libations are not Religious Practices, but rather an Introduction to Cultural Competence; and an Expression of African Indigenous way of Life. Libations is a Communal Call and Response whereby All in attendance repeat with assurance the Affirmation: Asé (So Let It Be), after the Calling out of Notable Ancestors known and unknown within our Family Tree. The Ancestors are awaiting Our Call, for this gives them Permission to Activate their Wisdom, Knowledge, and Innerstanding into Our Lives. This Rites of Passage Experience typically is held for the duration of 5/10 minutes depending on Size of Venue and Audience Participation.

Barbershop Talk
The Barbershop Talk will be an hour long session where students will be lead through an engaging conversation around social topics that effect our everyday life. We want this conversation to have an intimate, comfortable feeling, similar to how one would feel and interact with others at their home barbershop. We want to allow students to take off their masks and realize how much stronger we can be when we lean on our community and each other.
Digital ELA (D.E.L.A)
In this interactive workshop led by Peabody Award-winning Hip Hop Artist, Educator, and “The Boondocks” TV show collaborator, Asheru, participants will discuss the complexities of life through the lens and lyrics of Hip Hop music and contemporary literature. This session will break down the works of two celebrated writers — Robert Frost and Hip Hop legend, Kendrick Lamar—as we explore the themes of peer pressure, individuality, and traveling down “The Road Not Taken”.
Manhood Magic on the Mic!
There’s a myth that poetry, acting, writing, speaking, expressing ourselves emotionally etc isn’t “manly” or “not for boys” and has been known as a “girl thing.” This Fly By Light workshop will “Mash-up” this myth. Manhood Magic on the Mic explores how boys can use their emotions, personal stories and experiences through the arts and become “Master of Ceremonies” and strong leading orators, poets, actors etc. Facilitators will take group through a series of performative/writing activities and create Magic on The Mic by the end of this workshop.

Color Me Community
In Color Me Community, participants will have the opportunity to see themselves and others through a new lens. Led by Life Pieces To Masterpieces, an arts-based youth development and mentoring organization for Black and brown boys growing up in Wards 7 and 8, participants will explore their “gifts” (knowing all they have to offer this world) and “gains” (areas of learning or growth as we discover our sense of purpose). Stories about young men of color in this world usually are about some form of struggle, resistance, and success. Color Me Community will remind us that “success” is not the end of that story. We were supported along the way in ways big and small, and we can use our gifts to support and uplift others

Legacy of Malcolm X
Malcolm X’s life has been studied for decades. His impact reverberates still, to this very day. Unfortunately, as time moves on his legacy is becoming much more foreign to today’s inner-city youth. As men of color who are educators, it is our duty to maintain Malcolm’s legacy and pass on his journey to our youth in a clear, respectful way. We want them to come away with a clear understanding of the driving forces that made him who he was. He was not only a revolutionary but a man who made mistakes and learned from them and in his process became someone we could all admire and learn from.
Real Man vs Strong Man
Financial Literacy
Real Man Exercise - Summary: In the ‘Real Man’ exercise, you will hold up two pictures, each with an image of a man that they will likely recognize and ask the men or boys to decide which of the men pictured would be considered the ‘Real Man’ in the eyes of society and explain why. When you’re creating the cards of paired men for this exercise, develop a diverse array of high-profile men and male characters to pick and choose from so that cultural and social differences are represented, and so that you can use male public figures that the men and boys will recognize. Strongest Man Exercise - Summary: Counter stories provide a framework for challenging problematic dominant stories of what it means to be a man. While “Stump the Trainer” connects healthy masculinity with public life, the Strongest Man exercise develops counter stories and healthy masculinity by revealing the full range of characteristics and emotions that respectable and revered men in participants’ lives possess. Students will receive valuable information and guidance related to “Building Wealth Through Saving Money”, “Investing”, “The Cost of Credit” and “Creating a Wealth Mindset” from the US Securities and Exchange Commission. 6
