AntiBullying

The workshop presentations will cover the topic of anti-bullying and youth advocacy. Fly By Nature will share information on the 3 types of bullying, the effects of bullying, the importance of empathy, statistics on the prevalence of bullying and resources on bullying. The Community Enrichment Project will discuss activating youth advocacy skills in order to address teen bullying and to provide alternatives to the youth bystander effect.

DOUBLE DUTCH! Presented by DC Retro Jumpers

Jump Rope

DC Retro Jumpers will present its high-energy Double Dutch workshop and introduce students to Jayla Jumps In, a novel for kids by the founder of the team. Come ready to jump in and have fun.

This workshop will cover Traditional West African Dance, the history of the movement, and Afrobeat(s) dance.

Media Literacy

The Speaking Up and Using Your Platform to Make Change workshop helps students tap into their talents and learn new leadership skills. Participants create “WeTheGirls” manifestos that allow them to decide and declare the legacy they’d like to leave at their school and in their community.

Natural Hair Care

COTB will cover the following: healthy hair maintenance strategies and techniques, materials and instructions to facilitate participants creating their own hair tea rinse and and learn the benefits of tea on your hair. There will be an opportunity to win various prizes throughout the session.

Join us on the mat for some yoga flow fun with Brooke! In our yoga class, we will briefly go over what yoga is, how to do it, and how it benefits you. The only thing you need is yourself! Walk away feeling calmer, happier, and more peaceful on the inside.

Inclusivity

This workshop will explore masculinity and how the shifts in their presentation impact non-male (Women, girls, transgender, and non-binary) identified people. Masculinity is an expression that society states is exclusive to men. However, the impacts of masculinity and how it is expressed can be both harmful and an agent for change depending on its intention. Participants will analyze current representations of men and discuss what messages these images send, as well brainstorm strategies on how to find healthy interactions.

High School Redesign/XQ

Our schools are at their best when the people who matter most - students – are actively involved in decision-making and shaping their own experience. This session will explore XQ Institute's Ladder of Youth Engagement, and participants will have the opportunity to assess youth engagement at their current school and design creative solutions for DC Public Schools to be able to better engage their students, including young women.

Drama/Theater

A Hiphop theater workshop using role plays, improv, monologues, hiphop, karaoke, and lessons of lyrics analysis to practice how girls communicate their needs effectively.

Entrepreneurship

Our goal is to help students recognize that there are so many tools out there to help them explore and become entrepreneurs. We want to show them options and help them use earned media to test, market and advertise their products and services. There's a budding entrepreneur in everyone.

Participants will receive a clear definition of what incremental accomplishments are and how overlooking them can be detrimental to progress. They will receive specific strategies to avoid mislabeling accomplishments so they can really decipher their growth.

This interactive workshop will show participants how to incorporate more imagery in their writing. Participants will learn techniques that will have you writing with more depth.

BISON WALK Presented by Students of Howard University

Campus Tour

Come tour the beautiful campus of thee illustrious Howard University. Participants will take a 30 min guided tour to learn more about Howard’s campus and life in the shoes of a college student.

Let’s paint and party! We will come together through a paint experience that allows us to connect with one another and explore our creative sides. Your session will be hosted live by a fun instructor from Paint the Town, with step-by-step painting guidance provided.

Activism

Ayanna Gregory takes students on an interactive storytelling journey focused “being the change we want to see in our world”. Ayanna teaches the concept of “Activism” and encourages all students to work hard to make their environment a better place.
