JAQUES CHALOM DES CORDES First UK Exhibition

'Arab mare and foal'

Jacques Chalom des Cordes is a truly interesting man, a French artist and scholar, an equestrian par excellence and a lover of the countryside. In 1968 he founded the French Association of Purebred Arabian Horses, which he breeds at his property near Arles. He recently celebrated his 80th birthday and has a considerable reputation in France, exhibiting regularly in Paris and as far

afield as Tokyo, though this is his first exhibition in Britain. His work is bold, colourful, accessible, and his love of horses shines through. An exhibition of paintings is also a new departure for Sladmore, which is the world’s leading gallery for animal bronzes and is currently celebrating its fiftieth anniversary.

Jacques introduced the gallery founders Harry and Jane Horswell and later their son Edward, to the genius of Rembrant Bugatti, the great animal sculptor, when he mounted an exhibition of the sculptor’s work at his father Samy Chalom’s gallery in Paris in 1967. He has been a lifelong friend and mentor to the current director Edward Horswell, who plans to hold more exhibitions of his work. The exhibition of paintings and drawings runs from 2 December to 31 January 2016 at the Sladmore Gallery, 57 Jermyn Street, London, SW1Y 6LX www.sladmore.com
