“There’s so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I’m seeing it all at once, and it’s too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that’s about to burst... And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can’t feel anything but gratitude for every single moment.” -Anonymous

Recognizing the importance of analysis, my project partner and I explored several different factors such as surrounding land uses, transportation, topography, and vegetation to determine which areas of our site were suitable for each of our land uses. The suitability maps that we developed based on these factors are shown to the right. LEGEND SUITABLE NOT SUITABLE

SUITABILITY ANALYSIS

Once we had developed suitability maps for each of our land uses, we overlapped them to create one map that would allow us to compare these areas of suitability and develop a final schematic plan for our site.

THE LA SALLE PROJECT

The goal of this project was to redesign the La Salle Hotel courtyard in Downtown Bryan, Texas.

The La Salle Hotel is one of the staple businesses in the historical Downtown Bryan area. Unofrtunately, La Salle’s courtyard suffers from a lack of attention and identity. My goal for this project was to rethink and redesign this space in a way that adds value to the entire community. In order do this, I focussed on creating a sustainable site. This means paying close attention to not only the environmental value of the site, but also the economic value of the site. I wanted to make a site that would be used and would stand the test of time.

THE DIVERSITY PLAZA PROJECT An individual project focused on analyzing and redesigning a prominent area of campus

9 913

In this project, the objective was to turn Diversity Plaza, a central area of campus that is sorely lacking in efficient circulation routes and attractive aesthetic features, into a space that is worthy of its position as the center of campus.. By adding vegetation, modern materials and shapes, as well as a central water feature, I hoped to make turn this site into a destination for the students of Texas A&M University.

THE DESIGN WEEK PROJECT

A week long team project with the purpose of redesigning a stretch of Northgate area within College Station, Texas.

15

Our main focus for this project was to create an identity and a downtown feel within the city of College Station. This area was originally lacking in walkability features as well as a unifying purpose. In our design process we aimed to stay loose and creative as we developed a vision and a solution for the site.
