BUILDER STATEMENT
“The house is heated and cooled through a geothermal radiant floor system that is cast in dyed concrete throughout the house. This 3” thick concrete provides amazing thermal mass that efficiently keeps the temperature consistent throughout. A ducted CERV system brings fresh air from outside and circulates throughout the space to ensure excellent air quality. The building envelope is very tight with 1-1/2” rigid insulation on the exterior of the building to help avoid thermal bridging. The 20kW Photo Voltaic system on the roof creates a net zero home!”

ARCHITECT STATEMENT
“Inspired by the historic pole barn and out-buildings on site, this modern farmhouse draws on the agricultural history of the property. Utilizing corrugated weathering steel and weathered wood siding, this courtyard house shapes low-maintenance outdoor spaces, that are protected from the elements, while still allowing for stunning views of the foothills and back range to be enjoyed year-round. The open-plan style of this house also allows for the dining and kitchen areas to be opened up to the elements so that meals and activities can spill outside onto the terraced patio and under the shade of the massive cottonwoods.”
DAVID BARRET, PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT & FOUNDER | BARRETT STUDIOSHISTORY
For over a century, this land has been dedicated to agriculture, and the owners have respectfully honored that legacy through the meticulous restoration of the barn, goat shed, and storage shed from the 1880s. These structures, combined, offer a plethora of possibilities, including ample storage for motorhomes and boats, a creative space for artists, a serene environment for exercise, and suitable housing for horses or livestock.
The towering old-growth cottonwoods on the property serve as a habitat for birds of prey, and the fruit orchards have been a source of sustenance for generations, bearing testament to the land’s rich history and continued productivity.
