OUR VISION
our life together
February 16, 2013
Today GCWM Meeting, Discipleship Room, 2:00 p.m.
When I was a child there was one behavior that my parents simply would not tolerate from me and my siblings and that was lying. As a matter of fact my mother would always say, “Son, if you lie then you will no sooner steal.” I didn’t quite understand what she meant back then, but as I got older, I quickly came to realize the wisdom in her words. To lie is in essence robbing yourself as well as others of the privilege and opportunity of knowing and possibly accepting what is true. In today’s message, we will take a look at just how important this thing called truth really is in the life of the Christian, so important in fact, that Jesus described truth not merely as a statement of fact that is to be shared, but a reality that is to be lived.

Summary of our Beliefs The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3).

Sarah Renthlei is a youth leader with the Sligo Mizo Fellowship and also assists with our Primary I Sabbath School. She feels blessed to make a difference in the lives of these children. In addition to Sarah’s qualifications as a veteranarian, she has also completed her studies and certification to be a nurse. May Sey became a Seventh-day Adventist three years ago and was baptized here at Sligo. She has always had a passion for Bible study and is a gifted leader. Her joy of leading others to Christ is evident in her role of assistant Sabbath School supervisor with the Sligo Mizo Fellowship. During the week, May works as a pediatric medical assistant. Dave Weigley was first known to our church family as president of the Potomac Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. He and his wife, Becky, moved closer to this area in 2006 when Dave became president of the Columbia Union. Beside the many responsibilities and demands of leadership, Dave and Becky love spending time with their children and grandchildren. The Weigleys also take pleasure in raising and riding horses.
Prayer Support: Prayers of recovery for Robert Driscoll, Mildred Carter, Joy Fuller, S. Rao Kalapala and prayers of comfort for the families of Joan Silver, Eunice Alexander, Linda Hatt Tatum who lost loved ones. Prayers for an unspoken request from Edwina and Gawin Flynn.
Sanctuary Flowers: Today’s flowers are provided by the proud family of Josephine Benton, in recognition of her pioneering work as an Adventist woman pastor.
Footnotes:
Lara Beaven is a very busy mother of two- Calvin, one and Josephine, four, who is named after Josephine Benton. The name appealed to Lara and her husband, Ron even more when they thought of what a wonderful role model the former Sligo associate pastor can be in their daughter’s life. Lara is a journalist and if she can find the time- loves to knit!
Simple Truths for Life: Sligo’s Radio Ministry, can be heard each Sabbath morning from 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. on WGTS 91.9 FM. Listen with a friend, then invite them to come to church in person at 11:15 a.m.
Fellowship Lunch next week will be served to our greeters and visitors by the Habada & Campbell team. *Members who attend are invited to call Louvina Joseph, Hospitality Chair, at (301) 431-2188 and ask how they can support this ministry and/or become a team leader!
