welcome Welcome to Sligo today. Each week as our members and guests enter the sanctuary, they are confronted with two beautiful banners that hang from our walls. One is the vision of Sligo Church and the other is our mission statement, which reads: “To help to grow passionate disciples of Jesus through the worship of God, nurture of one another and outreach to the world.” These banners were placed here nearly ten years ago as a way of reminding us why we exist as a community of faith. But as beautiful as these banners are and as impressive and compelling as the words are that are inscribed on each of them, they mean nothing if they are not lived out in the hearts and minds of our members. Today as we have come to the conclusion of our sermon series, The Promise of Community: How the People of God Live Together, we are focusing on the final part of our mission statement: our outreach to the world. How do we as a church meet the challenge of reaching our world with the gospel of the kingdom when it appears from all accounts, that the world doesn’t even know that we exist? - Charles A. Tapp

at worship THE CHURCH

Summary of our Beliefs • The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40).

sabbath devotional

“Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, ‘Follow Me.’” – Ellen G. White, The Ministry of Healing, p. 143

Sligo Church has had a tradition of periodically having a yearbook done. The last one was done in 2012/2013. In years to come these will prove to be important keepsakes for our present and future members. LifeTouch has undertaken the task of creating a yearbook for us for 2018 and has scheduled the following dates for photographs to be taken: April 29 - May 14. Sign up for an appointment at <lifetouch.com> You can also sign up in the Atrium. Atrium sign-ups are not confirmed until you have been notified by LifeTouch. Pick up a LifeTouch brochure at a Welcome Desk in the Atrium or Foyer for more information. Prayer Gathering 2018! Join us in the Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. each Wednesday evening for engaging study and transformative times of prayer. The next Sligo Fellowship Potluck will be held on May 19. Guests are invited to join us, following the second service in the Fellowship Room. Members who wish to attend are requested to provide a vegetarian entrée, salad or dessert that will serve at least 10-12 people.
