Summer Budget Booster: If you’ve been watching our Profile of Giving section in the bulletin, you’ve probably noticed that the offerings for our Church Budget are falling well short of the budgeted goal. Normally, we wait until the end of the year to give the extra boost to our budget. This year, we’ve set a goal of $10,000 by the end of August for a mid-summer Budget Booster. As you plan your giving, remember our Church Budget and the Budget Booster during these summer months. (Church Treasurer) Let’s connect! Come visit the brand new Connection Central in the Atrium. Wherever you may be in your journey, here you can take your next step, connect to a ministry, a small group, an outreach opportunity, a Bible study or simply get to know your church a little better. Sligo Cares is a ministry that seeks to ensure that every member of our church family is taken care of, especially those who are sometimes forgotten. Sligo Cares supports our home-bound members through regular visitations, meals, and friendship. We also seek to reach out to our other members whose presence is missed. If you would like to join this ministry or are in need of support, email Pr. Fielder at <pfielder@sligochurch. org> Save the Date! Sunday, September 30. Join us for OpportuniTEA, an elegant tea here in the Sligo Atrium. Enjoy a delightful afternoon with delicious treats and a silent auction. Proceeds help our sisters around the world attend college. Buy tickets at <sostea2018@eventbrite.com> To help with the tea or to donate for the silent auction, email Carolyn at <kujawac@ gc.adventist.org>

Welcome to Sligo. Several months ago when our country was experiencing a great deal of unrest as a result of a myriad of hate crimes that were sweeping our nation, I was invited to share some words of hope during a radio interview. When asked by the host what words I could give that would provide the listening audience with a ray of light at the end of the proverbial tunnel, I responded with what I believed could change the situation overnight. I simply asked the question, “ What would our world be like if we all followed the Golden Rule?” The Golden Rule is an ethical principle of conduct that refers to Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:12 and Luke 6:31, “Therefore whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them…” In a nutshell, it is the principle of treating others in the same manner that you would want to be treated if the situation was reversed. As we conclude our series on the Sermon on the Mount, we present a standard of Jesus where the rubber meets the road for everyone who desires to live as a citizen of the Kingdom of God, in our message, “Bumper Sticker Theology.”

what we believe
We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. As Scripture teaches, we believe God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, saving us from sin by grace through faith. We believe the seventh-day Sabbath was established by God at Creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry as a gift of rest and rejuvenation for all. We celebrate the church as the diverse “new community” forged through the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which all are called, all are gifted, and all are valued. We anticipate Jesus’ personal and visible return to earth to raise the righteous dead, make the earth new, and dwell with His faithful children throughout eternity . We live out our love for Jesus by growing in His likeness and by serving our fellowmen.
