Welcome to Sligo Church. Have you ever had to play second fiddle to another person and made to feel that you were not good enough? Can you recall waiting to be picked for the football or basketball team at school, only to be picked last or overlooked because you weren’t considered as one having the requisite skills? Imagine how Leah must have felt when her husband Jacob kept choosing her sister, Rachel, over her. Today, in our 8:45 a.m. service, I will endeavor to share with you in my sermon, “Jacob Chose Rachel but God Chose Leah,” how Leah learned to cope with that sad situation and what the eventual outcome was. In our 11:00 a.m. service, Lonnie Melashenko, former speaker of the Voice of Prophecy ministry, will share with us a message on the grace of God, titled, “The Missing Piece.” Whichever service you attend today, I trust that you will experience afresh God’s presence and peace in your life. - Pr. Elizabeth Abel serves as an elder at Sligo Church and hosts a Home of Hope. She is passionate about church ministries and building teams to serve the community. She is employed by the Federal Housing Finance Agency as a Senior information technology and project management specialist. She enjoys skyping with her two grand- children in Tennessee. Ardyce Griswold moved to Takoma Park at the beginning of the 1960-61 school year to take up the position of librarian for Sligo School. After 54 years she turned in her keys in August 2014. She has served in several capacities here at Sligo, mostly in music. She was the director of the church bell choir for several years. Ardyce currently enjoys fellowshipping with a world-wide group of friends on an internet jigsaw puzzle site. Mary McFarlane has been a part of the Sligo Community since transferring her membership from the British Union in 2012. She holds an MA in Social Work Research. Mary teaches in the Women of the Word Sabbath School class and finds time to enjoy her hobbies of reading, walking, cooking and playing scrabble. She uses one of her talents in arranging the flowers that brighten our platform most Sabbaths. Lonnie Melashenko served as Speaker-Director for the Voice of Prophecy radio broadcast for over 17 years, the world’s second oldest religious broadcast, which celebrated its 85th birthday in 2014. He began working with the radio ministry in January, 1989 as Associate Speaker with Harold Richards, Jr. The recipient of numerous awards for excellence in broadcasting, Melashenko serves as a world ambassador for the broadcast industry and his church. Javier Navarette is one of the new teachers at Sligo Adventist School, having just graduated from Andrews University with a Master’s degree.
