welcome
Welcome to Sligo Church. Do you remember the first time you worked on a jigsaw puzzle? I was about 12 years old and remember the excitement I felt opening August 29, Saturday the box and seeing all those odd shaped pieces. What Prepare & Engage Fall Training, Atrium Suite, 3:30 p.m. was even more exciting was connecting the pieces. I knew once I put each piece in the right place it would August 31, Monday Regeneration Ministries, Office Conference Room, 7:30 p.m. create a picture of a grand castle. As I look back I wonder how a 12 year old could have been so confident that random pieces would September 2, Wednesday actually make a castle. It was simply because I would continually refer Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. to the picture on the puzzle box to complete my masterpiece. Life can (or by phone: 949.229.4400 Pin:4997774#, 7:35 p.m.) Sanctuary sometimes feel like a jigsaw puzzle, a series of disconnected broken Choir Rehearsal, Choir Room, 7:30 p.m. pieces. Today we will discover that even though we only see the pieces, God sees the finished product. God can take the broken pieces of September 3, Thursday our lives and turn them into a masterpiece. Exercise Class, Memorial Chapel, 6:30 p.m. - Joseph Khabbaz

• The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40).

Footnotes: Ron DeClerck joined Sligo church in 2003. His favorite aspect of being a Sligo member is the opportunity to serve God shoulder to shoulder alongside our diverse church family. He currently serves as a Deacon, organizes the serving of the Communion emblems and leads out with the Family Ministry Council. He is married to Lara Beaven and has two children, Josephine and Calvin. He has been employed for 16 years at the National Institutes of Health (NHI) Clinical Center as Medical Records Administrator. Lysle Follette, IV is 10 years old and a 5th grader at Sligo Adventist School. Lysle has been singing and performing at churches and Campmeetings since the age of 3. He most recently sang at the General Conference Session in San Antonio, Texas. He loves baseball and basketball. Eunice Lopez is our Sligo Explorers Adventure club director. She is married to Pastor Gerry Lopez and has two daughters, Brianah who is at Southern Adventist University and Viahnca, who is a 10th grader in High School. She is currently working at Sligo Adventist School as the after school care program supervisor. Gylchris Sprauve’s music ministry has been used by God to encourage millions worldwide through radio, television and live presentations. Currently he employs another gift as a linguist, working as an Italian teacher in PG County, MD. next week, here at Sligo... Waiting is not everyone’s favorite experience. Next Sabbath in our 8:45 a.m. service Pastor McFarlane explores some of the benefits and blessings of waiting in his sermon titled “The Lingering Jesus.” At the 11:00 a.m. service he will share with the congregation his message, titled, “Jacob Chose Rachel but God Chose Leah.” Our music will be provided by Brazilian guitarist, Rodrigo Paiva.

sabbath devotional
“Contrary to what we would expect, brokenness is the pathway to blessing! There are no alternative routes; there are no shortcuts. The very thing we dread and are tempted to resist, is actually the means to God’s greatest blessings in our lives.” – Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Homes of Hope - Prepare and Engage Fall Training, today, August 29. Come learn new ways to reach your neighbors, to start a home Bible study group and to encourage people to make decisions for Christ. Join enthusiastic church members who have started to share their faith. Meet this Sabbath afternoon at 3:30 in the Atrium. Communion rehearsal takes place next Sabbath, September 5 following the 11:15 a.m. service. Members of the diaconate are invited to be present. Please meet by the platform at approximately 15 minutes following the close of the worship service. Holy Communion will be celebrated on Sabbath, September 12, in both the first and second services. The Communion service, a celebration of our freedom from sin, is one of the highlights of our church life. If you know anyone who needs to have communion brought to his or her home, please call Erwin Mack at 301.434.1622. ACSGW call for volunteers: Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington (ACSGW) needs volunteers to help fold, label, stamp and seal newsletters, so they can be mailed next week.
