welcome Welcome to Sligo today. During the entire first quarter of this year, the Sligo Church family took on the very meaningful task of learning what it meant to exist as an authentic biblical community. We studied a curriculum that was created by Sligo for Sligo that we named, The Promise of Community: How the People of God Live Together. We felt that the idea of what it means to be a biblical community is so vital to our existence and mission as a church, that not only did we present it in our Adult Sabbath School classes each week, it was also preached from the desk. This process has been a game changer for Sligo. Not only have we come to a better understanding of what it means to be a biblical community, we have learned very practical insights on how to live it out as well. We welcome family and friends of our Sligo community from near and far as we celebrate our 9th Annual Homecoming. We are pleased to have as our speaker today Potomac Conference President, Dr.William Miller, as he shares from God’s word under the theme of community, with his message titled, “Picking a Fight.” - Charles A. Tapp

what we believe
We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. As Scripture teaches, we believe God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, saving us from sin by grace through faith. We believe the seventh-day Sabbath was established by God at Creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry as a gift of rest and rejuvenation for all. We celebrate the church as the diverse “new community” forged through the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which all are called, all are gifted, and all are valued. We anticipate Jesus’ personal and visible return to earth to raise the righteous dead, make the earth new, and dwell with His faithful children throughout eternity . We live out our love for Jesus by growing in His likeness and by serving our fellowmen.

Nancy Lamoreaux has faithfully served the Adventist Church at the Conference, Union, Division and General Conference levels for over 40 years. She is recently retired from serving as Chief Information Officer at the General Conference. Most of her career was spent in strengthening and growing Technology Ministry globally as well as at the local church. Her husband, David, still enjoys his career of 45 years as a piano engineer. They love traveling together to explore and learn about the cultures of the world. Bill Miller has worked in several conferences and in various departments of the church. His passion is to challenge employees and members in their journey with Jesus and developing leaders to meet the diversity of our communities. His wife, Sally, works at the University of Virginia. Their sons, Dwight and Calvin, are in the medical profession, and their daughter, Brianna, works at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Bill and Sally have been blessed with two grandchildren. Christina Zaiback-Khabbaz is a native of Silver Spring and grew up attending Sligo Church. As a young adult, she served in various ministries at Sligo before moving to Australia after getting married. She considers it a blessing to participate in ministry alongside her husband, Joseph, at Sligo. During their free time, Joseph and Christina enjoy going on hikes, learning about new cuisines and hosting friends at their home. n e x t w e e k , h e r e a t S l i g o . . .

sabbath devotional “The manual for picking a fight: Since you are a sheep in the midst of wolves, be wise as serpents, innocent as doves.” “The more genuine and the deeper our community becomes, the more will everything else between us recede, the more clearly and purely will Jesus Christ and his work become the one and only thing that is vital between us.” - Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together: The Classic Exploration of Christian Community
Join us for Prayer Gathering on Wednesday, August 8, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., as Pastor Tapp continues his presentations on The Standards of Jesus: Reflections on the Sermon on the Mount. Normally, we wait until the end of the year to give the extra boost to our budget. This year, we’ve set a goal of $10,000 by the end of August for a mid-summer Budget Booster. As you plan your giving, remember our Church Budget and the Budget Booster during these summer months. (Church Treasurer)
