We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. As Scripture teaches, we believe God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, saving us from sin by grace through faith. We believe the seventh-day Sabbath was established by God at Creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry as a gift of rest and rejuvenation for all. We celebrate the church as the diverse “new community” forged through the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which all are called, all are gifted, and all are valued. We anticipate Jesus’ personal and visible return to earth to raise the righteous dead, make the earth new, and dwell with His faithful children throughout eternity . We live out our love for Jesus by growing in His likeness and by serving our fellowmen. • • • •

Welcome to Sligo today. I don’t know about you, but one of the things that at times makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable is someone coming to the door of my home unannounced and uninvited. I’m not sure why that is the case. Maybe it’s because I don’t like being caught off guard. And I’m not alone in this regard. In the neighborhood in which I reside the homeowners association has in its charter that no one is allowed to do home solicitations without first being granted a permit. But of course, there are some, especially salesmen, who completely disregard this altogether. Sometimes I answer the door, but most times I don’t. In my mind, if I wanted to have my roof replaced, I would call the company and not expect them to just “show up” at my door. Today as we arrive at the last of the seven churches in our journey through the book of Revelation, we are presented with a knock at the door. And although this visitor may have come unannounced, and in some cases uninvited, this is one time where opening the door would definitely be to our benefit. - Charles A. Tapp

THE CHURCH AT WORSHIP we gather in his name

Leader: I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. Congregation: As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. All: Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

We like to especially send our gratitude to the Sligo Pastoral Staff, Choir, and Pathfinders. Please continue praying for us as we adjust to life without our mother and wife.” Today’s Sanctuary flowers are in celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Prakash Borge. God has blessed them with three children and four grandchildren. Congratulations to head elder, Erwin Mack, and his wife, Sylvia, for celebrating their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary this week. Erwin and Sylvia celebrated this anniversary at the Library of Congress, where he proposed to Sylvia. While there on Wednesday, Erwin’s story as a Korean War Veteran was recorded as part of the Library’s Veterans History Project.

OUR LIFE TOGETHER

1st Advent Candle Lighting:

We light this candle as a sign of the coming light of Christ, coming again to reign in glory. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice! Prepare the way of the Lord!

Exploring the Gospels: Join Pastor Don McFarlane as we examine the Gospel of Luke -- the Gospel that shows most clearly that Jesus came for all men and women -- rich and poor, broken and degraded--every race is received and everyone is welcome. Join our class Tuesday, December 4, 7:00-8:00 p.m., Sligo Church. Bring your Bible and a friend to Fellowship Hall A, Tuesday, December 4, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Budget Booster: Our Sligo Church Family has always been faithful in their giving and for this we thank you. However, as you can see in the Profile of Giving, we are far behind our goal for the Church Budget this year. To help us meet our budgeted goal, we have set a challenge of $20,000 for the Budget Booster for the months of November and December. This is in addition to what is given for the Church Budget. Your gifts toward the ministries of Sligo Church are greatly appreciated.
