Welcome to Sligo today. Some of you may not be aware that in addition to studying theology while in college, I also received a degree in the discipline of accounting. I must admit that there were times when I truly had to burn the midnight oil. As you can imagine, in studying accounting, I learned many valuable lessons that have helped me not only in dealing with finances in my ministry, but in my personal life as well. But there is one lesson that I learned which I have never forgotten and that is the concept of cost versus worth. Basically, it boils down to what an item actually costs versus the worth or the value that has been placed on that particular item. And trust me, the monetary difference between the two can at times be staggering. Think about it for a moment. How many times have you heard of someone paying an outrageously exorbitant price for something that actually only costs a few dollars to produce? As we continue our series on the book of Revelation, we will examine the meaning of what true worth should be in the life of every believer, in our message, “Signed Sealed and Delivered.” - Charles A. Tapp

what we believe

We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. As Scripture teaches, we believe God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, saving us from sin by grace through faith. We believe the seventh-day Sabbath was established by God at Creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry as a gift of rest and rejuvenation for all. We celebrate the church as the diverse “new community” forged through the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which all are called, all are gifted, and all are valued. We anticipate Jesus’ personal and visible return to earth to raise the righteous dead, make the earth new, and dwell with His faithful children throughout eternity . We live out our love for Jesus by growing in His likeness and by serving our fellowmen.

Leader: And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Congregation: Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?” Leader: And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. Congregation: So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. Leader: But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”

OUR LIFE TOGETHER

“Our sins are debts that none can pay but Christ. It is not our tears, but His blood; it is not our sighs, but His sufferings, that can testify for our sins. Christ must pay all, or we are prisoners forever.” – Thomas Brooks

A Farewell Reception in honor of Pr. Richard Castillo will be held in the Atrium on Sabbath, February 2, immediately following second service. A table will be available for cards and gifts. Pr. Castillo has been invited to serve as the Vice President for Integrated Marketing and Communication at Washington Adventist University. We will bid farewell to him following almost four years of dedicated service to Sligo Church. His leadership of the Media department, pioneering work with RESET and the annual Block Party, Graphic Designs, Video inputs, and other important contributions have all played a critical role in the life of Sligo Church. Pr. Castillo will leave with the blessing and appreciation of many, whose lives have been impacted by his ministry. The Washington Adventist Enactus Team embarks on their first international project to La Estrechura, El Salvador this Spring. Need donations of blood pressure machines and diabetic kits. To deliver same, contact Dr. A. Baldwin, Chair, Business Department at abaldwn@wau.edu or 256.303.3903
