Welcome to Sligo! I am confident that one of the least favorite times for my students here at Washington Adventist University is when I announce that there January 27, Saturday is going to be a test. Now, before you are tempted to Young Adults GLOW, Memorial Chapel, 9:30 a.m. become extremely judgmental, take a moment and think back to when you were a college student. I’m January 28, Sunday sure that test taking wasn’t on your top ten list of Exercise Class, Office Chapel, 9:00 a.m. favorite things to do either. But tests, whether they are taken in a traditional classroom or in the classroom of life, they are needed January 29, Monday because they are beneficial to our growth and development as human Administrative Board Meeting, Fellowship Hall A, 7:00 p.m. beings. On the one hand tests help to reveal our present state or Recovery Ministry Meeting, Office Conference Room, 7:30 p.m. condition, whether it is positive or negative. And on the other hand, tests, once they have been endured, aid in helping us to become January 31, Wednesday stronger. Today as we continue our series on biblical community, we will explore the idea of the role “testing” can play in the life of a Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. community of faith, like Sligo, not just as a means to reveal where we Sanctuary Choir Rehearsal, Choir Room, 8:00 p.m. are as a community, but also to explore the ways they can serve to make us stronger. - Charles A. Tapp

• The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40).

sabbath devotional

“A Christian fellowship lives and exists by the intercession of its members for one another, or it collapses. I can no longer condemn or hate a brother for whom I pray, no matter how much trouble he causes me. His face, that hitherto may have been strange and intolerable to me, is transformed in intercession into the countenance of a brother for whom Christ died, the face of a forgiven sinner” - Dietrich Bonhoeffer
