welcome

Welcome to Sligo Church. If you’re like me, then you must be finding it hard to adjust to the fact that we have arrived at the first Sabbath of a brand new year, January 4, Sunday again. It seems like it was just yesterday when we Pathfinder Meeting, Office Chapel, 9:00 a.m. were celebrating the ushering in of 2014. It begs the 55+ Club Brunch/Potluck, Fellowship Hall A, 10:00 a.m. question, “Where did all the time go?” I recognize Knitting Ministry, Discipleship Room, 11:00 a.m. that time hasn’t moved any faster, but in many ways it feels like that is the case. Nevertheless, here we go again. But what does it all really January 5, Monday mean? Why is it that at this time each year we find ourselves creatRegeneration Ministries, Office Conference Room, 7:00 p.m. ing these lists full of all the things we want to change about our lives, First Monday, Fellowship Hall A, 7:00 p.m. recognizing even while we are writing, that most, if not all of them, January 7, Wednesday appeared on last years list as well? So why not just copy our list from Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. last year and simply change the date? Because with all the goals we (or by phone: 949.229.4400 Pin:4997774#, 7:35 p.m.) place on our resolution lists each year, there is always room for one Knitting Ministry, Discipleship Room, 7:00 p.m. more thing, especially if that one thing expresses a heartfelt desire to Sanctuary Choir Rehearsal, Choir Room, 7:30 p.m. serve God and His kingdom more resolutely. Herein lies my prayer for the New Year, how about you? - Charles A. Tapp

Song Service

Leading our music today are: Patrick Alston, organist Desmond Pierre Louis, chorister Carole Dorlipo, soprano Sligo Sanctuary Choir Jon Gilbertson, director Vocal Trio: Joya Follette, soprano Lori Bryan, mezzo soprano Desmond Pierre-Louis, baritone Footnotes: Elizabeth Soulkes currently works with ADRA International coordinating Ebola response efforts in West Africa. Originally from British Columbia, Canada, she is a graduate of Loma Linda University’s School of Public Health and previously served in Albania as a student missionary. She enjoys hiking, cooking, and photography. Yuri Tomenko, originally from Russia, is self-employed. Some of his hobbies include photography and viticulture. He has a small vineyard in an urban setting, and some of his pictures can be viewed at 500px.com/tomenko. His latest hobby is learning how to fix cars. Yuri is one of Sligo’s Sabbath School superintendents. After 10 years of “simply attending” Sligo, he is convinced that being involved in church activities is the key to a more meaningful and fulfilling church life – that is when a church as big as Sligo can truly feel more like a family. He also thinks that the “main Sabbath service” starts with Sabbath School at 10:00 a.m. next week, here at Sligo...

Do you have a short attention span? Well, you are not alone. As Christians, our lack of focus can affect our spiritual lives and diminish our confidence in Jesus’ goodness. Next week here at Sligo Dr. Bill Miller, President of the Potomac Conference, will share that Jesus is good in his sermon titled, “Spiritual Attention Deficit Disorder.” We will be privileged to have Takoma Academy’s 100+ voice Choir as they fill our hearts with rich melodies for the New Year.

The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life.
