Footnotes: His Excellency, Palan Mulonda, and his family moved to Washington DC in January 2013 from Lusaka, Zambia to take up his role as Zambia’s Ambassador to the United States and Central America. He is married to Mutinta Mulonda and they have three daughters. Palan Mulonda has been a member of the Lusaka Central SDA Church since 1988. The family enjoy their daily devotions and good music, and have been attending Sligo since arriving in the country. Blanca Davis, known affectionately as Rosie, has been at Sligo since 1962, after arriving from South America as a nurse. She served as a member of staff at both Washington Adventist Hospital and Washington Adventist University. She retired from the Doctors Community Hospital recently but was invited back to work on a part time basis. Among her duties at this hospital she serves as an official interpreter of Spanish to English and vice versa. Rosie is married to Charlie. Dennis Medvee is a child of Sligo, having been here all his life. He retired from a career in National Public Radio in November, 2013, following 42 years’ service. Dennis is married to Constance. They have a daughter and 2 grandchildren. Dennis is pleased that at last he is able to enjoy his grandchildren without the intervention of work. Dr. Evelyn Wasli (Dolly) has been a member of Sligo since the early sixties. She has been a strong supporter of Christian education and her children all went to Sligo School. Her career has been in psychiatric care. In addition to working at Washington Adventist Hospital, she also served as a supervisor at the St. Elizabeth Hospital for several years. Dolly is retired and helps out each week as one of Sligo Church’s volunteer receptionists.

sabbath devotional

“The hope set before us— what is it?—The hope of eternal life. Nothing short of this will satisfy the Redeemer, and it is our part to lay hold of this hope by living faith in Him.” - E. G. White

First Time Visitor’s Comment: “Until today, I had never visited a Seventh-day Adventist church, but I decided at the spur of the moment to visit Sligo Church in Takoma Park, which used to be the headquarters for the SDA Church in the US. They had a lengthy Christmas service that was beautifully orchestrated and performed, and I must say that the congregational singing and warmth and genuine friendliness of the congregation left an indelible impression on me. I had cut my right thumb right before the 11AM service and asked an usher in the foyer if she had a band-aid, and she literally ran to get one for me, and put the band-aid on my thumb herself! Certainly the sign of a servant.......I think Jesus would’ve been pleased. All in all, a wonderfully enriching spiritual experience!” First Monday on January 6 - get equipped to share hope: with a Spiritual Gifts seminar in Fellowship Hall A at 7:00 p.m. Bring soup & salad to share. Sligo Book Club will meet on January 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the Discipleship Room to discuss “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou.
