welcome

Welcome to Sligo Church. Growing up, and admittedly even as an adult, one of the most exciting things I enjoy watching are fireworks. This July 6, Monday nocturnal art performance is able to bring a dark Regeneration Ministries meeting is cancelled and dreary sky to life by filling it with all shades of Church Office is closed color and light. One of the greatest firework displays will happen today in the Nation’s capital in celebration July 8, Wednesday of Independence Day, a day when we celebrate our country Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. becoming an independent nation. However, as we focus on (or by phone: 949.229.4400 Pin:4997774#, 7:35 p.m.) independence this weekend we can be inclined to forget that Sanctuary Choir Rehearsal, Choir Room, 7:30 p.m. none of us are truly independent from each other and from God. No matter how powerful or successful we become, true July 9, Thursday independence can only be found as we depend on God in Exercise Class, Memorial Chapel, 6:30 p.m. our communities, families and our own lives. If you are going July 11, Sabbath through a season of darkness let us be reminded that Jesus, the light of the world, can shine light even in the darkest places Promisedland Quartet Concert, Sanctuary, 3:30 p.m. as we depend on Him. Today may we sense our need and make a declaration of dependence to our God!

profile of giving - June 27

• The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40).

sabbath devotional

“The main danger of misplaced dependence is that it can border on idolatry. If you let your basic well-being depend on another person’s behavior, you elevate that one to a position that only I should occupy. This is not only displeasing to Me; it is destructive. Because people are imperfect and unpredictable, your life may come to resemble a roller-coaster ride: subject to the whims and moods of another person. Even worse, your intimacy with Me will be hindered by your preoccupation with someone else. I deserve first place in your heart.” - Sarah Young

The Church Office will be closed in observance of Independence Day Holiday on Monday, July 6. If you have an urgent matter that cannot wait until the office reopens, please call our emergency number 301-980-1009. HOMECOMING 2015: Join the church family and Sligo friends on August 1-2 for Homecoming, the theme of which is, “Saved to Serve.” Worship with us on Sabbath morning, when Pastor Trevan Osborn, pastor for Administration at the Azure Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church in Grand Terrace, California, will be our speaker. Enjoy a delicious International Potluck luncheon on Sabbath afternoon at Takoma Academy. Have fun on Sunday’s sportsday - basketball, ping-pong, soccer and volleyball.
