Did you know that… 1974 was a busy year at Sligo Church: the first singles meeting was held; the first outdoor baptism of Sligo School candidates took place; the first pictorial directory was published; and Sligo Church purchased a row-house on 12th Place, Washington D.C., for live-in Christian ministry. Also, in 1974, the Brotherhood Church, which sprang directly from a Sligo adult education class on African-American history, was recognized by the Conference as a church. The Sligo Church family has sponsored and continues to support many smaller groups including the French-American company and the Mizo group. Follow us now on Facebook and Twitter
Welcome to Sligo. Have you ever wondered why it is that we tend to look down on “small” things? As a child, I March 25, Saturday was one of those that you could say was small for his Young Adults GLOW, Memorial Chapel, 9:30 a.m. age. Throughout my elementary years, I was either the smallest boy in my class or next to the smallest. So I’m sure you can imagine some of the ridicule I received March 27, Monday from my fellow classmates. But why do we tend to despise or look Regeneration Ministries, Office Conference Room, 7:30 p.m. down on things, including people, that are found to be in the category of small? In case you haven’t heard, some of the most successful March 29, Wednesday ventures known to man began as small and somewhat insignificant. In Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. 1975, 20-year-old Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak set up shop in Jobs’ (or by phone: 949.229.4400 Pin:4997774#, 7:35 p.m. parents’ garage, dubbed the venture Apple, and began working on the Choir Rehearsal, Choir Room, 8:00 p.m. prototype of the Apple I. To generate the $1,350 in capital they used to start Apple, Steve Jobs sold his Volkswagen microbus, and Steve March 30, Thursday Wozniak sold his Hewlett-Packard calculator. And the rest as they say Exercise Class, Office Chapel, 6:30 p.m. is history. Lesson learned. Don’t be so quick to look down on “small” beginnings because you may be in for a surprise. April 2, Sunday - Charles A. Tapp 55+ Club Brunch/Potluck, Fellowship Hall A, 10:00 a.m.
